We had a fantastic time in Charleston, and Stella's place is in a great location. It's located a couple of blocks from Upper King which has become a vibrant area in Charleston over the past couple of years. Some of the best restaurants and bars are located in this area. Parking is a hassle in Charleston so being walking distance to great restaurants and bars is a blessing.
Stella provided a lot of good recommendations to us. I'm a native South Carolinian and lived in Charleston almost a year ago. Even having lived here, new restaurants and bars have popped up all over the place.
Unfortunately, we were unable to meet Stella. She did go out of her way to drop coffee off to us. I would highly recommend staying here. Thanks Stella!
Stunning. Five stars. Perfect location, amazing hosts. This beats a hotel hands down. Completely renovated inside and outside keeps the air of an original Barbados inspired single house with outdoor piazza. Charm? That word doesn’t even cover it. This neighbourhood is unbelievably beautiful and the people are friendlier than any Canadian I’ve ever met. This city has the best food I’ve had in a long time. Check out Prohibition for their burger or macaroni and cheese and Butcher and Bee for anything at all.
Didn’t get to meet Stella, but she cared for us from the start. From a bottle of champagne in the fridge to every item we needed being perfectly arranged. This is what a boutique hotel experience SHOULD be. She sent us so many wonderful recommendations for grub, adventure, and relaxation, it was hard to do them all. If you choose somewhere else to stay, that’s your loss, my friend. ;)
Stella was a great host!! We found her home to be cozy and very clean and had all the amenities we could possibly need. In particular it was great to have beach towels, beach chairs, and umbrella for our trip to Sullivan's Beach. She also provided us with things to do around town and great places to eat. She was easy to get ahold of during our planning process.
It was awesome to have a place that was within walking distance of all the things we wanted to do in Charleston and Stella's place was easy to find.
Overall we had a great experience with Stella and would come back to stay in the future:)
I have been visiting Charleston for 15 years, some years more often than others. I've stayed at various hotels each time and was thrilled to try Stella's apartment this visit. We experienced the two borough neighborhood on a new level, finding amazing bakeries, restaurants and bars around every corner along with easy access to the staples we love. With the bikes she provides it's simple as can be to venture to the more touristy side of downtown and waterfront. I recommend Stella's abode if you're looking for a local, neighborhood environment in one of the best cities EVER.
This was my first trip to Charleston and Stella's place was a perfect launching pad in a real neighborhood. My mother-in-law stayed with my husband, daughter and I and we had a wonderful time moving through Stella's recommendations of Hominy Grill for Easter Brunch and Taco Boy, where they show love to urban bikers like us with 2 for 1 margaritas!
After a last minute cancellation by another AirBNB-er, Stella stepped in and saved our trip!! The apartment is so modern and unique, well organized, and clean. Loved the local neighborhood hangouts recommended by Stella as well! Lots of nice little touches around the house like travel toiletries and keurig coffee topped off the stay. Highly recommended!
Sadly, we did not meet Stella, but had a wonderful experience staying in her home. The house is beautiful and comfortable and has everything we needed. Stella was very helpful and recommended several great restaurants and ideas for things to do. The bikes were great to have, we only used the car to go to the beach one afternoon, the rest of the time we biked and walked. It was our first experience with Airbnb, and Stella's home made it perfect. It was great to have a home instead of a hotel experience. We spent some time each day sitting out on the porch watching people go by and chatting with neighbors. Everyone was so friendly! Would absolutely recommend Stella's house!
We stayed at Stella and Burton's place during our recent babymoon and can't recommend it more highly. I liked that the location was a bit off the beaten path, as it afforded us plenty time to stroll through quiet, residential neighborhoods - often stumbling upon off-beat local gems - before arriving in the hustle and bustle of downtown. So great to have a parking spot, a full kitchen, and coffee/tea and all the basics provided. Stella even left creamer and eggs in the fridge - along with a six-pack of local IPA that we requested - waiting for us when we arrived. The loft is cozy, but comfortable --- and the only problem we encountered was not being able to figure out the volume on the TV (probably user error). We'd definitely stay again and have already recommended Charleston and Stella/Burton's loft to many friends.
My boyfriend and I recently made a trip down to Charleston for my cousin's wedding. Neither of us had been to Charleston, so it was a relief to have a hostess like Stella who went out of her way to tell us what/where the best restaurants were, what to do if it rained, how to get to the beach, etc. When I travel, I like to live like a local and this is exactly what Stella provided for us. We were happy to avoid a lot of the really touristy parts of Charleston and hit all the high points.
Stella's place was lovely, just like the photos. Very hip and cool on the inside and we really loved hanging out in the loft. The major negative was that there wasn't a ton of room in the bedroom to unpack. There was a small closet with hangers all ready for us, but we had to keep our suitcases out in the living room the whole week just because we brought so much stuff (we were roadtripping, so there was no limit to what we could bring :))!
While the Upper King district is starting to get some hip and trendy spots, we were a little surprised to see that the neighborhood was still pretty transitional. It didn't take long to walk or bike to the popular parts of town from the house, but it just wasn't in the "nicest" of neighborhoods. At the end of the day, we did feel safe and were happy to have free parking (because a lot of other rental homes in Charleston don't!).
We really enjoyed exploring all of Charleston and staying in Stella's home. It was clean and well appointed. There were a few surprises that made our stay a little more interesting, however. We were in Charleston during fashion week and we were told at the last minute that someone else would be staying on the other side of the loft. That person parked in the guest spot next to where we were supposed to park, but basically left us no room to get in and out of our car. We drove around more than we planned on, so it was a little bit of a pain to work around this. Additionally, there were multiple deliveries and drop-offs for Stella while we were there. Friends came to return a punch bowl and just walked in the door one day without knocking. Packages came for the old tenant (we were confused initially) and then said tenant showed up at the end of the week to collect the packages. While these things weren't necessarily Stella's fault, or were anything she could have really predicted, it was a little odd and was a bit of a distraction from our vacation.
All in all, it was a great trip and we would stay at Stella's again. She was a great host and really did all she could to make sure our stay was enjoyable! Thanks Stella!
We had a fantastic time in Charleston, and Stella's place was a great starting point each morning and a good landing spot each night. The space is cozy, clean, and accommodating, and you have pretty much every utensil/cookware you need to make breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Of course, we're not sure why you would because the food in Charleston is great.
Stella's place is located near the North end of the dinner/shopping that is available on King Street, and while you could walk there, we drove and thankfully found parking. The bikes she provided us would have made parking less of a hassle, but we forewent that option for our dinner/shopping excursions downtown.
Stella is very helpful and provided us with a lot of useful information, including websites with even more information. We especially appreciated the tips on great local restaurants (Xiao Bao Biscuit and Hominy Grill among them), what we could do if it rained (it did), and several options for enjoying the Charleston area. It was great to have the information because it either backed up what we planned to do or gave us something new to consider/explore.
The bikes we had access to made our trip more worthwhile and we are glad we had them. We biked around town several times and became more familiar with the area (it made driving and walking Charleston much easier), as well as across Ravenel Bridge simply to take in the view and have a drink on the other side.
We're very appreciative that Stella let us use her place as a base for exploring the Charleston area, and we wouldn't hesitate to use it again if we ever get to Charleston again. Thanks Stella!
