Farmers in this area of Sonoma County used to build this style of wooden structure to enclose their elevated water tanks. As well as ensuring a pressurized water supply, the distinctive water towers became a hallmark of agriculture properties in the area. Our water tower has served many uses, including at one time being the local Beauty Shop. Now the 300 sq ft ground floor apartment, with private kitchen and bathroom, and a comfy queen-sized bed, is ready for you to become part of its history.
My Australian husband and I have recently purchased this 4+ acre property, and are in our first year 'observation' phase before we begin production as an organic farm. Your stay here in our water tower will help us finance aquaculture, greenhouses, and cultivation projects. We've priced this ground floor apartment lower than the average in this area because although it's very clean, it's a bit sparse in terms of furniture at the moment.
This area of Sonoma County is unincorporated and retains much of the rustic flavor of the pre-centralized era. The nearby city of Cotati has not allowed fast food chain restaurants, so the result is a unique assemblage of small, family-owned businesses.
There is an organic farmstand around the corner, a vineyard with tastings just down the street, a lakeside park with walking trails in nearby Santa Rosa, and we are within 10-35 miles of the many fabulous winery, cycling, and coastal destinations for which this region is famed. Enjoy all of that, and unwind with unlimited free access to our dedicated high-speed wireless lines. And, if you're writing that first novel and require a bit of solitude, you can ignore all of the above and drive straight up to your front door. Reclusive or gregarious, we welcome you!
Thank you Kirstie for a beautiful and relaxing weekend in the water tower! We were very cozy and happy downstairs with the big heater, the pour-over coffee in the morning, and the quiet farmland all around. Just what we were looking for.
Thanks also for all your great recommendations - we were super impressed to see all the wildflowers in bloom - truly stunning! You made our mini vacation in Cotati a joy.
We had a blast staying in the water tower this past weekend. Kirstie and her family are great. She greeted us when we arrived and we were able to talk for a bit - Kirstie is a very caring and sweet individual.
It was a lot of fun wandering around the grounds and playing with Madeira the Dog. The location was also ideal - just off the freeway yet far enough away from everything to be able to hear the frogs croaking at night. There is a really cool winery just up the street as well that does tastings on Saturday and Sunday from 12-5.
Everything was great. We stayed for a week and enjoyed the accommodations. The night we arrived we were extremely tired from driving all day and were surprised by the hosts by a food/drink offering. This was really a nice gesture and hit the spot so we could go to bed happy. I highly recommend staying here! .
I stayed at the Tower a week for a business trip. I loved it! Kirstie is a great, friendly host and very attentive. The place is rustic, but well equipped. It has a complete kitchen, great internet, and a big bed. The Tower is the quietest place I've slept in recent memory. If you're interested in waking up in a peaceful, rural setting while visiting the area, Kirstie's Wine Country Water Tower is best value you'll find. I plan on staying here again on future trips.
I enjoyed staying here. Kirstie was friendly and helpful, her dog was very sweet, and the space was quiet, clean, and calm.
My girlfriend and I really enjoyed our stay in the water tower. It was was cozy, clean and Kristie was a great host. She made sure we had everything we needed. We would definitely stay there again.
My girlfriend and I stayed here after a concert at Sonoma State; Kirstie was flexible on our time of arrival, and she met us along with the most excitable puppy I've ever seen. The place was wonderful and cozy and quiet and warm, and Kirstie was great to chat with!
Words to the wise:
1. The room is on the ground floor of the old water tower, not in the loft as I imagined—and somehow I'd missed "ground floor" in the description. (On the other hand, I'm not sure how I was hoping to carry our suitcases up that ladder...)
2. If you're not rural, you'll be surprised that the well water tastes of iron and leaves residue on the sink (and smells like kettle corn when you take a shower). That's just part of being slightly off-grid!
It was an amazing place, and I'd most definitely stay there again!
Kirstie was ultra nice in greeting us later in the evening when we arrived. The space is bigger than seems in pictures and was the perfect place to crash for 3 nights. The bed is huge and comfortable. The water is pretty metallic but Kirstie had a huge box of bottled water for us. Definitely recommend, great stay for the price.
Great experience to stay in the water tower. It was extremely clean, a unique accomodation and was exactly like the pictures. Kirstie was an excellent host, super communicative, filled with local area recommendations and available if we needed. I would recommend this place. Thanks Kirstie!
This was a fun experience. The bed, the most important thing for us, was very comfortable, and we slept well. It was also great having use of a kitchen. The only thing missing was a microwave- they are a very inexpensive addition. Kirstie and Nicholas were very kind and helpful and were great hosts.
