Our studio apartment in the English Lake District with super king size bed, dining area, en suite shower and separate kitchenette has everything you need for a short break (or longer!) away in the Lakes.
Cocklety How Studio is in the first floor of a converted 17th Century barn at Manesty in Borrowdale, in the heart of the Lake District. The studio has its own entrance at the back of the building at ground level (first floor).
The galley kitchen has a combination oven/microwave, hob-plate, kettle, toaster and fridge with icebox. The super-king bed can be made up as two singles.
The Studio has a great view over the valley of Borrowdale. By the entrance is a private sunny patio looking up into the woodland, home to owls, rare red squirrels and other little mammals. You are free to explore the wood, which is also where our wood-fired hot tub is found - this is available for £25 per day for exclusive use, please book in advance.
Manesty is less than a mile from the Derwentwater lakeshore and about the same distance from the pretty village of Grange, with it's teashops and double hump-backed bridge over the River Derwent. The 'Honister Ramber' bus takes you into Keswick (5 miles) from the doorstep between Easter and November, or the launch runs all-year round, as does a bus from Grange.
We're in a perfect location for walks, water sports, touring the villages, or just sitting back to relax! We provide all our guests with our 'walks from the door' which we have written ourselves: 11 walks of varying lengths that you can enjoy straight out of the gate.
Our family have lived at Manesty, a traditional Lakeland farmstead in Borrowdale, for nearly 200 years and have a long history of welcoming visitors to share our beautiful part of the world. We live in the house near the original farmstead built by Alan's father and grandfather and let the original farmhouse and converted barns as holiday cottages. We're here to help you get the best out of your stay if you want and are always happy to offer advice.
A wonderful stay at the Studio in Manesty!! Alan & Cheryl were very helpful.
We stayed here for 3 nights to celebrate the new year. The studio had everything you needed.
First night we strolled down to the Borrowdale Gates hotel for a few drinks and a game of scrabble by a lovely open fire. Second day, we climed Maiden Moore and Catbells, then went into Keswick for our evening meal, then back to Studio for a well deserved bottle of Prosecco and watched the fireworks! On our final evening we rented the wood-fired hot tub and spent a good few hours bathing in it, it was glorious, and we didnt let the wind and rain put us off!
All in all a wonderful stay and could highly recommended staying in this lovely part of the world.
We had a really lovely few days at the cottage! Beautiful scenery and both Cheryl and Alan were really friendly and gave us loads of info about the local area. Thank you!!
We had a fantastic stay here and would highly reccomend it! Lots of walks literally from your door step to Cat Bells and the surrounding area, will definitely be back! Thanks x
Lovely place and lovely people. I would happily return to stay again some time.
We had a fantastic time at Alan and Cheryl's place. A beautiful place in a really idyllic setting. The view from the window was amazing and there were fantastic walks right from the doorstep. Alan gave us some brilliant advice on walks and rides to do, and they had lots of information about places to eat and visit that meant we always had lots of options - we recommend the walk up catbells and then along the lake front! We would definitely go again. Thanks Alan and Cheryl for being such great hosts!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Alan & Cheryl's lovely warm cottage. Aside from the idyllic location, Alan and Cheryl were very friendly and welcoming - you can tell that they clearly want all their guests to get the best out of their stay in the Lakes. The 12 walks that they designed from the front door of the cottage are a great idea, and certainly we enjoyed the walk we did.
Thanks very much!
We really loved our stay at this rural hideaway.Alan was very welcoming, and the cottage was clean and beautifully presented, with sensational views of the surrounding countryside.
The property is well situated for walkers, but also has a bus at the door and a boat service from the nearby wood, both to Keswick.
We had such a wonderful time celebrating our 1st anniverary at this beautiful location. Alan, Cheryl and Alice were so welcoming and always willing to help with advice. We're looking to our return trip in 2014!
Alan & Cheryl were friendly, and their daughter was too helpful. They were nice. Alice was sweet. They were guiding us on each point about the routes & giving advice about the walking areas & told us to come back if you walking before getting dark. That seemed like really caring. The flat was amazing. We have nice holidays there. Just was the problem was bit wifi may be because of area and flush you have to wait few mins to do again. We enjoyed their company a lot & had wonderful time. In short they were nice, friendly & good people..
The studio is exactly as it looks in the photos. It's clean, warm and comfortable, and has a great shower! There are lovely views from the window and good walks from the front door that Alan and Cheryl have mapped out.
You'll need to take things like coffee/tea/milk with you as there aren't any local shops. We'd definitely stay again if we were heading to the Lake District - the studio is in the perfect location to explore from.
