Our self contained studio is in the heart of the Lake District National Park in north west England. It has stunning valley, forest and woodland views from the window. Our nearest town is Keswick (just 5 miles by bus, boat, boot or car).
The kitchenette is separate from the main room and has a kettle, toaster, 2 plate hob, combination microwave oven, fridge with small freezer compartment and all the necessary crockery, cutlery, pots and pans.
Our studio apartment is in the English Lake District. With it's own entrance super king size bed, dining area, en suite shower and separate kitchenette it has everything you need for a short break (or longer!) away in the Lakes.
Cocklety How Studio is in the first floor of a converted 17th Century barn at Manesty in Borrowdale, in the heart of the Lake District. The studio has its own entrance at the back of the building at ground level (first floor).
The galley kitchenette has a combination oven/grill/microwave, hob-plate, kettle, toaster and fridge with icebox. The super-king bed can be made up as two singles.
The Studio has a great view over the valley of Borrowdale. By the entrance is a private sunny patio looking up into the woodland, home to owls, rare red squirrels and other little mammals. You are free to explore the wood, which is also where our wood-fired hot tub is found - this is available for £25 per day for exclusive use, please book in advance.
Please note: we have just bought a new bed and mattress in time for Christmas 2014.
Guests have their own parking space, entrance and private patio with table and chairs and have exclusive use of the studio. They are welcome to explore our small wooded fell side behind the studio. They have access to a shared utility room with washer, drier, extra tourist information, games, puzzles, books and portable bbq.
We have one outdoor wood fired hot tub in our little wood, which can be booked for a day at a time for an additional cost by guests staying in any of our accommodation. Please book in advance and check availability before you book accommodation if this is an integral part of your holiday plans.
Interaction with Guests
Our family have lived at Manesty, a traditional Lakeland farmstead in Borrowdale, for nearly 200 years and have a long history of welcoming visitors to share our beautiful part of the world. We live in the house near the original farmstead built by Alan's father and grandfather and let the original farmhouse and converted barns as holiday cottages. We're here to help you get the best out of your stay if you want and are always happy to offer advice, just ask.
Manesty is less than a mile from the Derwentwater lakeshore and about the same distance from the pretty village of Grange, with its teashops and double hump-backed bridge over the River Derwent. The 'Honister Ramber' bus takes you into Keswick (5 miles) from the doorstep between Easter and November, or the launch runs all-year round, as does a bus from Grange.
We're in a perfect location for walks, water sports, touring the villages, or just sitting back to relax! We provide all our guests with our 'walks from the door' which we have written ourselves: 12 walks of varying lengths that you can enjoy straight out of the gate.
From Easter to October a bus (77/77A, the 'Honister Rambler') goes from Manesty's front gate to Keswick. All year round the 78 goes to Keswick from Grange, less than a mile away and there is also a boat, the 'Keswick Launch' which picks up from High Brandlehow and Lodore landing stages, both about a mile from Manesty.
From Keswick, there is a bus to our nearest railway station Penrith which is well served by high speed trains (less than 3 hours to London).
And of course, you can bring your car. We have off road parking.
Arrival and departure days are on any day, with a 3 night minimum stay in the summer (and other busier periods) and a 2 night minimum stay in the winter and at the last minute. Please enquire if you are looking for a 2 night stay and we can let you know whether or not it is possible.
Please do not exceed the maximum occupancy of 2 guests. When you book we will ask for the number of guests staying and their names and addresses - we are happy for you to change these, but just let us know!
The price includes bed linen, towels and electricity.
Our accommodation is non smoking and pet free.
We don't include any cleaning fees in our prices, instead we ask you to leave your accommodation clean and tidy at the end of your stay. On your arrival we ask for a small returnable deposit of £20 which we hold while you are with us. At the end of your stay we return this after a quick check. We would like to do this deposit through airbnb but their minimum deposit is ($100/£70) which we think is too much! If you would prefer to pay a cleaning fee instead, please let us know and we can arrange this.

Finally, please let us know of any anything you need or any problems you might have while you are here. We want you to have a great stay with us and letting us know of any issues as soon as they arise means we can sort them out as soon as possible instead of their dragging on through your holiday. Feel free to ask us about great places to walk and visit while you are here - our family has been at Manesty for six generations so we should be able to point you in the right direction!
The double bed in super king size (6ft wide) or can be divided in to two standard size single beds - just let us know what you prefer!
About the Host, Alan & Cheryl
Alan's family has lived at Manesty, in Borrowdale, for nearly 200 years. Our children (now grown up) are the sixth generation to have lived here. Our family has a long history of welcoming visitors to this magical part of Borrowdale and we are proud to continue the tradition of sharing our beautiful little corner of England.
If you want, we're able to provide you with a wealth of local information and tips. Our 'walks from the door' is just one way that we try to make sure you get the most from your Lake District holiday. We live next door so we're always on hand to answer questions, help you book activities and recommend things to do but far enough away though that you don't need to see us if you don't want to. We're really proud of our cottages and glamping accommodation and love our area. We hope to welcome you soon!
