One of the oldest structures in town, this quaint cottage once belonged to James Bradley, the founder of Asbury Park. Full disclosure, we are still a work in progress (our loving restoration of this house will probably continue forever) but every is room comfortable and fully functional with many 21st century amenities.
You will have exclusive use of the garden bedroom which sleeps two, and has a separate entrance through the shady back garden. This bedroom has its own full bath (with tub and shower.) There is a cable TV and internet access in this room as well.
Garden bedroom guests have full run of the downstairs--so feel free to share our kitchen, hang out in the living room, lounge in the sun room, rock on our front porch or use the gas grill in our back yard.
We are pet friendly (we have 2 dogs of our own) so well socialized dogs are welcome.
We are within walking distance of all Asbury Park attractions, 3 blocks from the shops and restaurants of Cookman Avenue, 5 blocks from the ocean, and 4 short blocks from the NJ transit train and bus stations.
John was a great host! When I got there, he gave me a tour of his house, which he and his wife restored from being virtually condemned over 8 years. John's really easygoing and his dogs are the most calm I've ever met. I practically didn't know they were there.
The bedroom was smallish (but why would that matter at the beach?) and comfortable, and had its own bathroom. A good, down-to-earth place to stay in an excellent location.
I had a lovely time in this quaint cottage in Asbury Park! Enjoyed lovely conversations, snacks and wine with John and Maria and their two lovely rescue pups. Room and bath were simple, but clean and accessible by a separate entrance. Included cable TV and they provided a number of DVDs to watch, if interested. Ideal for one person, snug but doable for two. Parking right in front of the house. Lovely!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at John and Maria's. we were on an all too brief trip and never had the chance to meet Maria. We loved the house and the room was just fine. Location was perfect. We were able to walk everywhere--boardwalk, beach, Cookman Ave, etc. John was also kind enough to put out snacks, coffee, breakfast items, and made a wonderful quiche on the morning we departed. We would definitely return when back in the area.
For an impromptu get away, we decided to do a weekend in Asbury Park. John and Maria's place is perfect for us and for those who love likes the basics when it comes to traveling. A comfy futon to sleep in with clean sheets, a super clean private bathroom (with everything you need), TV/DVD with a great collection of DVD's, and a private entrance/exit from the garden. Great location - few blocks from the shopping, restaurant areas and the beach. What amazing HOSTS! We were welcomed with wine, cheese, veg. and fruit platters and the next day, love the quiche and breakfast spread! They truly provided with love. Their dogs Austin and Blue are so cute and very well behaved. Free Wifi A+... Fun stories of the house and the Asbury Park by superb hosts! We would visit again! PS: They checked us in early - love that! THANK YOU JOHN, MARIA, AUSTIN AND BLUE!
John and Maria showed us a wonderful time in Asbury Park. They have restored a beautiful old cottage which they made us feel at home in. They gave us wine and food on arrival, breakfast every morning and snacks to take with us, as well as a map of the town and a guide book. They have two lovely dogs whom we were very fond of and they seemed to like us too! John and Maria were also very accommodating in letting us use their computer which was a great help for us since we're travelling. Asbury itself is a lovely seaside town, we really enjoyed our time on the beach and exploring the boardwalk. We would recommend Asbury Park, and we would certainly recommend John and Maria's house! We would love to come back and stay again.
