This is a part of our villa, Casa Serenitá (please see https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/945721 for the listing of the villa). An antique Javanese wood house transported from Java, it is full of rustic charm with modern comfort.
The villa is located in the popular Nyuh Kuning village, just south of Ubud, a mere 15 minute walk through Monkey Forest. It is built on 18-are (20,000 square feet) overlooking a small river valley and terraced rice fields. Despite the closeness to central Ubud, the property is secluded and serene. No sound of passing vehicles can be heard - all you hear are birds, frogs, ghekkos and the gentle streaming of the river below - thus we named it Casa Serenitá, House of Serenity.
The villa is comprised of four buildings: Master bedroom with half outdoor bathroom (bathtub, rain shower, and two sinks); Second bedroom is a Gladak—an antique Javanese wood house transported from Java—that has a private half outdoor bathroom (shower only) and a porch with a view; Complete kitchen/dining/living space that is large enough to accommodate small group yoga or other gatherings; and a traditional Balinese-style gazebo in which to sit and relax.
There is a 2.5m x 11m swimming pool in the garden.
The house is maintained and managed by a friendly staff from the village - a full-time gardener, a night-time security, a part-time house caretaker, and a manager who can assist you in any aspect during your stay.
The villa was built with one thing in mind - harmony and integration with nature. The design is traditional and authentic Balinese bale style architecture, completely open to and part of the beauty of the surrounding nature. It does not aim to be super-deluxe or unnecessarily luxurious. Rather, it is a down-to-earth, simple and comfortable nest for those who want to be as close to nature as one possibly can be, while still enjoying all the modern comfort and convenience in total tranquility. This is a perfect space for a writer's retreat, meditation, yoga and other spiritual/inner work, or just to unwind and relax.
The price indicated is for the Gladak with full use of the kitchen/dining/living space and includes breakfast for two. Airport pickup/drop-off is available for US$30 one way.
Basically, check-in is at 15:00 and check-out at 11:00. This is, however, flexible depending on the bookings before/after, so please contact me if it needs to be altered.
Or please feel free to contact me for any questions.

Amazing place! Can't recommend it highly enough. Not a sound to be heard that is not from nature, a great kitchen and living area under a high thatched roof, beautiful outdoor shower, stunning infinity pool that looks out onto the jungle, and really lovely staff... What more can one ask for?!
Everything about the place is amazing! The staff are fantastic and very knowledgable about the surrounding area they made it a very personal experience. We mentioned in passing that we loved mangosteens, the next day Ketut had gone out and brought us back a bunch. The breakfast was enormous with different Indonesian dishes every day! They are also able to organise tours and motorbike rental.
The gladak is simple but beautiful with an amazing outdoor bathroom and shower. The grounds are stunning with a pool and large kitchen and living area.
We initially had one night booked but immediately booked another 2. The surrounding village is very friendly, quiet and accessible. It is nice to be walking distance from Ubud and the sacred monkey forrest.
This is the best place we have stayed in Bali. Couldn't recommend it higher!
I stayed at gladak, it was magical experience... I love the little hut and jungle experience. The place offers peaceful environment, but you might suffer if you are afraid of bugs. The staff are very nice and friendly. pak ketut was very helpful. He arranged my transport, and he is also willing to become my personal ojek driver. He is just like your personal butler. Desak is very sweet too, she prepare good breakfast, but you need to wake up early if you want your room to be cleaned. Since she is only working half day.
It is wise to use the pick up service, since the place is difficult to find
Gladak was hard to find and quite secluded with no signage and no villa number, but our driver managed to get us there. On arrival the villa was very quiet and peaceful , no staff & no other guests, we were completely on our own until Ketut (security) came at 10pm. It was so nice to wake up in a rainforest with birds and squirrels running around.
Lisa (staff) made us a beautiful breakfast and then our driver picked us up, over all it was a good experience. If you are looking for a relaxing, private, peaceful place then this will suit you very well :)
I enjoyed my 6 week stay in the Gladak very much. The location is serene and quiet while close enough on foot or by scooter to Ubud centre for shopping etc. There are also quite a few good places to eat near by if you do not want to use the communal kitchen. The pool is magical, not only to look at, but so cool and refreshing in the hottest part of the day. You will see the native squirrels (Tupai) about their business in the coconut palms, a multitude of frogs and butterflies and large and small geckos. Many pretty birds also visit to drink from the shallow edge of the pool.
While Naoko was not there personally to be host her wonderful staff made up for that. Ketut, Kadek and Desak are all lovely charming and friendly Balinese people and made my stay even more memorable. Desak is an enthusiastic and gifted Chef so be sure to sample her delicious food!
We had the most wonderful time at Naoko´s Gladak! The surrounding is absolutely stunning, it´s very quiet and peaceful, and the staff was extraordinary helpful and lovely. Naoko and her wonderful place get my absolute highest rating!

Hi, I am Naoko, the owner of Casa Serenitá.
I am a book translator and I divide my time between Tokyo, Bali and Seattle. My love affair with Bali started back in 1990. I have returned for visits over the years and built relationship with this very special village, Nyuh Kuning, just south of Ubud. In 2012, after 10 years of planning, a house was finally built on a very special, secluded piece of land overlooking the river.
I am unable to live in Bali all year round, and therefore, offer this house for visitors while I am not there. Hope you will come and stay - and enjoy the beauty of old-style Bali in the serenity.
