The Space

A bit of French countryside right in the heart of the Castro!

Come stay in a relaxing two bedroom home with a large garden in a beloved San Francisco neighborhood. The building is a great early 1900 Edwardian, excellently located on 18th street between Sanchez and Noe. You'll be 2 blocks down from Castro Street and 2 blocks up from Dolores Park. The Castro neighborhood is safe, friendly and full of restaurants, nightlife, interesting stores, and it even has it’s own 1920’s movie palace. The ultra hip Mission district is down the street and quiet Noe Valley is just over the hill. It is a short walk to Valencia street - which is packed with diverse restaurants, unique shops, specialty cafes and nightlife.

The house has vintage French flair, with lots of antique furniture and hardware - many of which were purchased from Paris's open-air markets. There are 2 bedrooms plus a sleeper sofa, thus sleeping up to 6 people. The master bedroom has an incredibly comfortable king bed and french doors that open onto a small private deck. The front bedroom has a brand new queen Keetsa mattress bed, a writing desk, and faces the street. Both bedrooms have roomy closets. The full bath has a tub and shower. The kitchen was designed and stocked with a chef in mind - you'll have all kinds of pots, pans, spices and implements at your command. The kitchen is large and open, with a gas stove, dishwasher, and custom oak cabinetry. The kitchen opens right into the sunny, garden-facing living room. The living room has a queen-sized sleeper sofa, bay window, and opens onto a large, private redwood deck overlooking the shared garden.

A beautiful new entrance way was just installed that now separates the home's doors from the street. Once inside the entry way, you may come into the home through the door to the front bedroom or the garden door in the back. (Previously, guests entered right from the street into the front bedroom.) The home owners are constantly making efforts to create an excellent experience for guests.

The entire house was completely renovated a few years ago, with new floors, bathrooms, kitchen, and appliances, and central heating. All of the cabinetry was custom built for the space by a local cabinet maker, doors and windows are salvaged antiques, and the hardware and furniture are vintage finds.

There is a 42" (107cm) flat-screen TV with cable TV, DVD player, and high speed wireless internet. There are no stairs to climb, and secure, off-street bicycle parking is available. The house has no garage, but street parking is 2 hour permitted parking in front of the house, and free week-long street parking is available a few blocks away.

Amenities include:
*Private access to the entire apartment
*Private Redwood Deck
*Large Garden
*Wireless Internet and 42" (107 cm) widescreen TV with cable
*Full Kitchen with dishwasher
*In-house laundry
*2 blocks from Dolores Park
*2 blocks from Castro Street
*No stairs to climb

  • This was our first Airbnb stay, and we had a wonderful experience. The flat is comfortable, well-equipped, and extremely convenient. The deck and garden are lovely. Sara was very friendly and helpful, responding right away to a minor problem (a tripped circuit breaker). Many great restaurants are only a couple of blocks away. The shops, restaurants, and BART station in the Mission--including the amazing Bi-Rite grocery--are within a 10-minute walk. The front bedroom, on a busy street, had a bit of noise, but not enough to be a problem.

  • The house was perfect and looked just like the pictures! The backyard garden was beautiful, and the location was a 2 min walk from the Castro and 5 min to the Mission, both awesome neighborhoods in SF. We has a great time and will definitely be visiting again.

  • The Castro Garden Home was beautiful and right in the heart of the Castro District. The 2 bedroom apartment was perfect for us (2 couples) it is very clean, has a huge kitchen area and a really nice, quiet backyard. The host Sara, was exceptional. I asked her for close by neighbor restaurants and her recommendations were perfect. It was our first AirBnB experience and we are already talking about using AirBnB for our next adventure. We will also be back to the Castro Garden home, the next time we visit SF. Thank you Sara and Jordan!

  • We had the best time staying at the Castro Garden Home! This was our first Airbnb experience so we were a little nervous about what to expect, but are so glad we chose to use it for our trip to SF. Sara was a pleasure to work with. She immediately sent us a welcome packet detailing the area, the house, and where to park so we knew what to expect when we arrived. The house was gorgeous! Cozy, but well decorated and very clean. The backyard patio was adorable, and we had the best time getting to know the neighborhood. Thank you Sara for turning us into Airbnb believers! We can't wait to come back.

  • YES! This place was fantastic and a great deal! My friend was visiting from out of town and there was plenty of space, you could certainly stay here with 2 couples. Even though it was on the ground level, the street wasn't noisy at all! It's a quick walk to the Mission and other fun areas including Dolores Park. Sara thought of everything, from individually wrapped toothbrushes to books and board games. I really felt at home. Sara was very responsive and helpful. Check in was easy.
I would highly recommend any of her properties and I would 100% stay here again. THANK YOU!

  • YES! Clean, comfortable, every detail was thought of- even individually wrapped toothbrushes in case you forgot yours.
Sara was VERY responsive and professional. She really made sure we were comfortable. You could comfortably have 2 couples stay here.
Comfy beds, bored games, patio, great location!
The street is really quiet at night for San Francisco. Walking distance to mission and lots of great restaurants.
We would stay here again in a second!
    Parking is really tough.

  • Really nice place in really nice location, and everything was very easy and convenient.

Wifi was really slow, but that was the only flaw.

  • Everything was great, a perfect location if you like to walk, eat and shop. Everything the Castro and the Mission have to offer is easy to get to without driving. If you are willing to walk a little you can even find parking, which was a bonus as we didn't spend any money on garage parking. The inside is very well laid out and clean. Decorations and furnishings are really nice, but the best part is the garden. It is quiet and beautiful. All of us enjoyed going outside to read, relax and eat.

I love people... truly I adore meeting people, hearing about their lives, and making a difference for others. Being able to provide clean, lovely and stylish homes to guests is deeply fulfilling to me. It is an honor to have the opportunity to be hospitable. Even if most of my communication is with the individual reserving the home, I know that I am taking care of them so that they may take care of the other members in their group - whether that is three generations of a family or a group of friends or a team of coworkers. I live in San Francisco and offer a whole home to guests that I also own. In addition, I help some dear friends and family by providing guest services for homes that they own. I have always been passionate about providing wonderful customer service - even when I was a babysitter or worked in retail as a teenager. The home owners I help appreciate my passion and want people who stay in their homes to feel cared for and loved by me. All of my activities - such as responding swiftly to questions, fulfilling special requests, and providing neighborhood information to guests - are intended create a positive experience. For clarification, taking care of guests is at times a team effort. So you may read reviews that mention other people's names who are (or have been) part of my excellent team. Being able to provide a whole home - not just beds, but a kitchen and communal living space - especially inspires me. Recently, parents with their 5 young children stayed at one of my homes. I came by to drop off some extra items and got to watch the father play with the baby and see the other kids in their footie pjs piled up on the couch enjoying a cartoon before bed. I believe they made most of their meals in the kitchen, which was a significant savings for a family of their size. When they checked out, the parents told me how it simply would not have been possible for them to take a vacation like this at a hotel. It moved me to know that I gave these parents and children something so precious. My mother probably would have had a bed & breakfast, but instead ran a small business to support my dad's dreams. Even still, she had a comfortable lounge, complete kitchen, full time cook, and little touches like scented candles so that clients felt at home. She hosts a Thanksgiving dinner for 40+ so that friends, family, friends of family, family of friends, etc can experience belonging and being part of something special. I inherited her love for hospitality, combined with my father's outgoing nature. I've had the good fortune to travel internationally a bit. I'm learning and eventually will be able to speak French, Spanish, Italian and perhaps some other languages. I want to be able to communicate with people globally in their own language, whether they are visiting me or I'm visiting them. I also deeply enjoy exploring the city in which I live. Even after living in LA for 30+ years, I was always learning something new and discovering special qualities. There is so much happening in San Francisco, one can be a "tourist" in this city and never get bored. There isn't enough time in the day to attend all the events and try all the restaurants, etc. I appreciate when my guests tell me about their SF adventures.
