The Space

This listing is for the furnished room with private bath know as the AVOCADO ROOM .

Our adjacent homes house scientists, researchers, writers, engineers, graduate students and summer interns for the telescope community, observatories, university and college of pharmacy. As such, we often host an international mix of residents from many countries.

I often host the same scientists over and over, and they feel this is their home when returning to Hilo. We love making new friends, and the conversation here is never boring.

Oh! And the avocados! If you hit it right, there are amazing butter pear avocados right outside your window. Hence the name "Avocado Room".

  • Our stay at Robin place was very pleasant. The place is beautifull and very warm. The Room was very charming and very clean. The location of the house is not so close to Hilo (15-20 min by feet) but if you have a car it's very convenient. Robin is a very friendly and helpful host. She even bring us to the airport when we needed it. We definitely recommend to stay at Robin place. You will not be disappointed.

  • An interesting place with a lot of personality...books and records all in the main room, nice shared kitchen for the three rooms in the house. Robin is lovely and chatty, and a very nice woman. We loved the stay although the rooster (appropriately named "Early") woke us before dawn and kept us up for about an hour, but it might have been due to outdoor lighting that turned on during an amazing rainstorm. Otherwise, a perfect stay.

  • We stayed in Robin's lovely Avocado Room, and thoroughly enjoyed the amenities of her beautiful, historical B&B, including a big comfortable bed, private bathroom, relaxing lanai, large library, free wifi, free secure on-site parking, fresh coffee, and engaging fun conversation. Robin is a fantastic host, and she generously shared her knowledge of Hilo and the Big Island with us. We savored delicious, fresh avocados and other fruit from Robin's trees daily, and walked from Hale Lanikaula to downtown Hilo's shopping, dining, and outdoor market hot spots. We would absolutely stay there again, and would recommend Hale Lanikaula to everyone exploring the friendly town of Hilo, or the Big Island's other incredible east-side destinations such as Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, the Puna District's snorkeling and surfing spots, and the Hamakau Coast's waterfalls, beaches, and stunning scenery. Enjoy your stay! Jim and Kay Haggenjos, from Portland, OR, October 2013
