Interaction with Guests
As much as they need me to. I find that some guests really want to come and enjoy their stay without much interference from the host. I respect that, but provide guidance or company based on the preference of the guest.
I love that I live in the restaurant and night life central of Harlem. The best restaurants, bars, and night life spots are steps away from my home.
Be respectful of the space and property and we'll be cool.
Smyles was a wonderful and gracious host who made Bob and I feel very welcome!
The location was tops and the room and overall accommodations was exactly as described!!
This was our first time using Airbnb and we will definitely be using the service again.
All in all, we had a wonderful time visiting New York City and staying with Smyles!!
Beautiful and comfortable bedroom in a great location. The Apt is quite near by subway and Times Square only 15 mins ride way！Nice kitchen and cleaning bathroom！
Smyle's apartment was located in west harlem and very close to public transportation, which made it easy to get anywhere around Manhattan. The room included all the basics (pillows, 2 thin blankets, bed, mirror, desk and a couch, and he provided us with a soap bar). And the bathroom was shared with Smyle and his girlfriend, who also lived there. Both were very kind. Thanks for hosting us!
Smyles was very friendly & made us feel welcome, although we only spoke with him briefly on arrival, we didn't cross paths again as he left early in the morning & we were gone all day until very late. The room is as described & the bed was comfy. We had use of the kitchen to use the fridge & make tea in the morning which was great. There is a little variety store across the street to buy cream & liquor if you want. The neighbourhood was cool & we felt safe at all hours, as safe as you would feel in any big city late late at night. The subway was a nice short walk & there is a bus every 10 minutes that takes you directly to Laguardia Airport just up the street that cost $2.50!
Smyles is a great guy! He was incredibly responsive when I had questions prior to arrival, and when we finally arrived he was super helpful.
The location in Harlem has some really cool restaurants and was very quiet at night. The room was very basic, had a comfortable bed, and was very clean. There is one shared bathroom - also very clean.
The only thing you want to take into consideration is that if you are just in "the city" for a brief visit to sightsee, the location is far uptown and the commute into midtown by subway is about 30 minutes. Taxi is about $25 one way. If you are looking for a little different environment and don't want to stay in hubub of Times Square, this is a nice alternative.
Thank you Esther for being a great guest and for the pointers you gave me to improve the guest experience. Thank you also for your kind words. I have already implemented the suggestions you provided. In addition, I redid the bathroom after you left.
In response to your review I would like to give potential guests more clarity as they make a decision whether or not to book my space.
Regarding the time it takes to get to 42nd Street Times Square, here is a Google map link of how long it actually takes to get to time square from the subway station just a few short blocks away: (website hidden)
Most guests (I too) prefer to use the subway when going downtown. However, here is the estimated fare to get to Times Square: (website hidden)
The guest room is very large. With plenty of space left it takes a large bed, an office desk and chair, a coffee table, and a long three-seat sofa. I recently stayed at the Park Lane hotel on 5th avenue and noticed my guest room was about the size, if not larger, than the Executive Room with 1 King Bed that my girlfriend and I stayed in for $300.69. I provide each guest with towels, soap bars, and a blanket (now two, thanks to your suggestion).
Most of my guests are tourists in town for sightseeing. And the most common comment I get is that Midtown is fairly quickly accessible. Here are some comments about the location from previous guests' reviews.

“The place is really close to the subway so you can get anywhere you need with great ease.” - Rares Neamtiu
