We live in the backside of the schoolhouse. We have our own private entrance, yard, and living space.

The guest side of the house is separated from the host side of the house by the laundry room which we will make available to guests by request.

We have several dogs living on this property. They are managed by an invisible fence when we let them outside. Except for our old farm dog Casper, who might greet you at the door, the dogs are kept inside when we are not home.

We are dedicated to stewarding our habitats well. We will have signage and a house manual to direct guests on how to care for our habitats during their stay. Though sightings are rare, there are bears and coyotes in the area. Therefore, guests must follow STRICT FOOD AND TRASH MANAGEMENT policies to protect our guests, habitats, and wildlife.

Please bring your reusable water bottles! We have delicious mountain well water from aquifers fed by mountain springs. We kindly request that guests limit disposable bottles as much as possible.

The Green Cove Schoolhouse living space is on one level.

There are 2 steps to get onto the porch plus one step to go into the house from the porch.

We have a septic system and require septic-safe toilet paper which we stock for you.

Lives in Damascus, Virginia
Our family has been a part of the community in Green Cove, Virginia for well over 100 years. Darlene and David Crank will be your hosts during your stay, your initial contact through Airbnb will be with either Darlene or their daughter Gwynne Virts. Darlene and David are taking over the Schoolhouse from her parents, if you have stayed with us before you know Bernard and Bonnie. You might still see them here as well, they are just taking more time to enjoy their retirement. Bernard worked for The Washington Post as a typesetter and Bonnie is an artist, who together raised five children in the home Bernard built in Northern Va. When they retired in the mid 1980's, they turned their eyes to restoring what was one of the first schools in Green Cove, Va. With hard work and lots of help from our tight knit family, they turned a four room school house into a home filled with wonderful craftsmanship and art made by Bonnie and many others that make up the diverse artist community in the surrounding areas. Every room has paintings, stained glass, weavings, blown glass, photographs, and pottery. In the mid 1990's they decided to open their home and have been hosting guests ever since. David and Darlene purchased the "schoolhouse" as we always called it from her parents in 2014 and have been assisting with the rentals part time until 2017. We are now thrilled to be here full time and love riding the Creeper Trail, hiking and most recently zip lining and looking to find all the other fun and interesting things the area offers. We are also thrilled that our family is also migrating to the area and will be assisting with their vacation rentals as well and will be able to help with arrangements for larger groups as well. We love to share what we know about the area and are happy to assist with any questions you have but also don't want to intrude on your vacation so please feel free to reach out to us with any questions or problems. We are pet friendly and have our own pets on the premises.
