We have a very friendly and well behaved young wire-haired pointer called Enzo who would love to meet you.
This was our second stay with Martin and Jo. Always a comfortable stay with very warm and welcoming hosts. Will definitely be staying again.
This is a fantastic stay. My friend and I did the C2C route in November and we were much refreshed with a hot shower and good night's sleep in a warm room and a quiet neighbourhood. Breakfast was also wonderful (so many types of cereal!).
The facilities are great. We (email hidden) in our twin bedroom and a refreshment table with a water heater. Towels are also (website hidden) and Martin are wonderful hosts. Our bikes were stored securely in a garage and we had some interesting conversations over tea beside the fireplace. Martin was also kind enough to let me have "specialist batteries" for my bike lights, saving me a trip across town.
I would recommend this over a hotel - it's cheaper and better.
(Just a note - (website hidden) Maps may not recognise the address 70 Lowther Street precisely. I'll leave Martin to tell the story why, but if you can navigate to Lowther Street, just go up the hill and you should be close.)
My second stay with Martin and Jo was even better than the first! I had the lovely double room with a sofa and sink in the room, right next to the bathroom. So it felt like my own little flat in the evening. However, I was there for Martin's birthday and one evening I was treated to a glass of champagne - not the usual greeting one expects. Facilities were excellent, and it was great to be made so welcome and have some interesting chats too!
Charming considerate hosts. Very comfortable many thanks!
What wonderful hosts Martin & Jo are. Sadly we only spent one night with them. We actually got lost trying to find them due to strange street naming & numbering regulations. However, once located, they couldn't have been more hospitable or helpful, with Martin waiting on the street corner to show us where to park. Thanks for making us feel so welcome and at home. Thanks Martin for your route suggestions - indeed very picturesque with breathtaking scenery. We enjoyed your delicious breakfast, and meeting your other guests. We can highly recommend Martin & Jo's B&B as a wonderful place to stay for visiting the Lake District. Lidy & Astrid.
My brother and I stayed here whilst doing the Coast2Coast cycle route. Martin was a superb host whose breakfast table has everything you could possibly want before attacking the gruelling climb over the Pennines. Excellent communication meant that when we arrived we were able to get straight into our room and have a well needed shower, which by the way is fantastic - warm, powerful and a good size in a spacious bathroom next to the bedroom.
The house has a nice patio area which afforded views back across the lakeland fells we had earlier cycled and a sunny space to get our breath back when we arrived. Our bikes were safely stored in a garage overnight and I have never met such a well behaved and chilled out dog, whose presence you would hardly even notice.
WOW is too simple way to describe this place to stay..... if you are in the area this is the only place to stay.... Not only are your hosts interesting people, their home is the best I have stayed in..... The house is stunning the HOT water is plentiful and has great pressure and the bed was SUPER COMFY....... thanks so much for having me ............. and the fact that Martin went the extra mile and bought my phone charger that I had forgotten to the train station, and this was after he had already given me a lift to the station is an example of what wonderful people are all about.......5 star Hosts and a 5 star house which I cant wait to come back and see again when there is some snow on the mountains
Sorry if this review gets long but we have too many nice things to say about Martin and Jo! First, the twin bedroom and bathroom were very clean. The beds themselves were super comfortable. Secondly, Martin and Jo had great recommendations on things to do and see in and around Penrith. Third, breakfast every morning was a delight. And finally, Enzo was the sweetest pup!
From the first day, we felt very welcomed and as if we were staying with friends (not Airbnb hosts). Martin, Jo & Enzo are very open and friendly. We definitely recommend this place!
