Our stay at Gusde's House was our first Airbnb experience, and our first time visiting Bali.
We had an absolutely wonderful time, and were looked after brilliantly by both Made and Wayan (1 and 2 - two people with the same names). We met Gusde on our second day. He was very welcoming and interesting to talk to.
We booked the pick up from the airport and Made collected us as promised. We were a little apprehensive at first, especially driving down the lane to the house, which was very bumpy! We needn't have worried though. The house It is just as shown in the pictures and really is luxury amongst the rice paddy fields.
After sorting out our luggage, Made drove us into Ubud and recommended a nice restaurant, Bali Pesto. He also picked us up after and there was no extra charge.
Later on Wayan called in to see if we needed anything, and showed us how to use the safe. He suggested a day trip for the next day for $US 50 for both of us. Well what a day we had. We visited a Balinese dance, silver making, wood carving, traditional Balinese House, waterfall, volcano, spring water temple and even tasted a Durian fruit. Such a lovely day and well worth the cost. Wayan was a great guide and explained lots of things, so we learned something about Balinese culture.
Wayan then came back to take us to Ubud so we could visit a restaurant, and he also picked us up afterwards, again, for no extra charge.
We had wonderful breakfasts of omelettes, toast and jam and fresh fruit, with fruit juice and tea.
We really enjoyed our stay and being away from the touristy areas.
We were woken in the mornings with a cockerel and dog barking, but that was great. Countryside sounds. Everyone who passed by was so friendly.
The infinity pool was great, with views over the paddy fields and palm trees. Although the pool is shared, we had it all to ourselves.
We met other guests at breakfast who were staying in the apartment upstairs, and we had some good conversations.
It was such a great experience, lovely accommodation, the service was fantastic and food brilliant.
We highly recommend Gusde's House for anyone wanting something different to staying in hotels, and to feel very welcome and looked after.
THE MOST AMAZING Place EVER!!! Baliiiii! I just got back from Ubud Bali and WOW!, I cannot wait to go back ♥ Aside from the amazing culture atmosphere and beautiful people, Gusde's New Cottage seriously made this trip 100% We arrived to our new abode for the next few days and right away we were greeted by "The Amazing" Wayan. He showed us to our room and let us be and off to sleep we went. When we woke up the next morning we had delicious gourmet breakfast prepared and awaiting us the sweetest of fruits, savory omelettes and fresh papaya juice! :) Shortly after Wayan drove and showed us around pretty much ALL of Ubud. To the rice paddies one of the most amazing volcanoes I've ever seen and then to coffee plantation and then of course off to the elephant rides! This place including the staff was top notch! I couldn't have chosen a more clean beautifully located and earthy place to stay. I HIGHLY recommend that before you look at any other hotel hostel or villa... PLEASE just take a look at this beautiful cottage, trust me the pictures don't even do it close to justice. You and whomever you come here with will aabsolutely feel like royalty because of the amazing and most genuine hospitality provided here at Gusde's! From the stay to the breakfast to the view and the pool and most of all Wayan (ask for him bcuz he is simply the BEST) You'll absolutely fall deeply in Love with it and all of Bali!!!!! ♥♥♥♥♥ see you soon Ubud! And Thank you thank you thank you :)
Gusde House was amazing and the photos don't do this place justice! We loved the variety of breakfast each morning and Wayan our host was so very accommodating - thank you for having us :o)
Very clean, friendly staff, amazing view from the pool. Location was just what we hoped for, just outside of ubud in the rice paddies. Perfect if you are independant and on a scooter, i.e. Eat out and/or stock your fridge; since it is a family run guesthouse there are not many guests so the (beautiful) warung at the entrance closes early, so noone was around to ask if you have any questions in the evening. Breakfast was great, the whole experience as well. Would definitely come back.
Gusde and his wonderful family and driver Wayan made my holiday so much richer. The guest room in their family compound is charming and cleaned every day. It is beautifully set against rice paddies at the rear with busy Balinese life in the front. It looks exactly like the photos.
I broke my wrist on day four of two weeks. Gusde arranged for quick access to a specialist in Denpasar who was brilliant and Wayan stayed with me during hours of procedures etc. their kindness was very welcome. If you need a bit of looking after in your holiday you will get it here. Gusde and family are willing to share Balinese culture and this was a highlight for me. Thank you everyone. I enjoyed your lovely home very much Gusde and Putri. :)
I had a good time staying at Gusde house for 6 nights. The staff is very helpful, great breakfast, transportation to/from Ubud was provided and it would take only 7- 10min. Room is quite big and clean.
The only thing which is was difficult for me is sleeping as I am a light sleeper I could hear dogs at night and chickens in the morning.
My husband and I stayed with Gusde in the main guest house and we were very comfortable. Gusde allowed us to change our booking at the last minute and it was no problem to him. Wayan the driver was also very likeable and helpful to us. The pool is beautiful with lovely views over the ricefields. You need a scooter to get around as the villa is not in Ubud but no problem for us. The breakfast was also very good.
Due to a personal emergency after I had arrived on vacation in Bali, I had to cancel my stay at Gusde's home in Ubud the day I had intended to check in at this guest home. From the time I made my booking on Airbnb, Gusde was very responsive and prompt in our email communications. He was very understanding and gracious when I did have to cancel. I sadly regret that I was unable to visit Ubud during this trip to Bali, as I was so looking forward to experiencing a stay with Gusde's family.
We stayed at Gusde's home in the town of Mas for a full week in mid December 2013. Gusde and his family were very warm and friendly. The layout of a Balinese home is very special, with separate stand-alone structures at each of the 4 orientations, one of which was the guesthouse for me and my girlfriend. Everything was covered in intricate wood carvings, from the doors to the windows and the furniture-- which makes sense since Mas seems to be home to artisan wood and glass workers. We had fresh fruit and smoothies served every morning for breakfast, with a variety of Balinese and Western cuisines.
Gusde also introduced us to Wayan, who gave us the complimentary rides into Ubud (tourist center), and who we ended up hiring to take us to nearby towns and temples. Wayan was quite knowledgeable about Balinese culture and very accommodating with our whims.
We highly recommend staying at Gusde's home! And check out his restaurant too!
I stayed at Gusde's house early December 2013 with family (with my parents and brother). We actually stayed at Gusde's other property - the 2 bedroom private villa (https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/213423 ) as this property was booked by another guest and Gusde had kindly offered us an upgrade on his other listing (which was great!).
The villa had its own pool and 2 bedrooms (1 downstairs and the other 1 upstairs with view of the rice paddies). It was clean, nice, mix of modern and traditional Balinese decor.
Our stay was lovely! We were greeted by Wayan who was really, really nice and helpful. Upon arrival, we were given a welcome drink and Wayan gave us a local phone, in case we needed to contact him.
They had another shared pool with a magnificent view of the rice paddies. Beautiful and picturesque.
We met Gusde during breakfast and he was a really nice and humble guy.
The location of the villa is in the quiet part of Ubud but not too far from the center and surrounded by rice paddies (just what I was looking for!). It would perhaps be quite far to walk to the Center, but they also provide free shuttles for guests.
We also rented bicycles to go around the village in the morning (Rp. 20,000 for a whole day rent/bike) - was really great!
