This is a review for the Quentesencial 1940's property. I leave this review here because the host did the reservation through this other property she has (all properties are next to each other and share the garden and driveway). We selected this house because it looked beautiful in pictures, and also because we Needed to wash clothes, and this was too expensive to do at a hotel. Well, the first thing i read when I got to the house was that due to the water crisis in CA the laundry service wasn't offer. This was strange to me as the other properties we stayed at in CA, all of them had their laundries up and running. Besides, if this was the case, the host HAS to change the description on this website and explain that laundry is down at the moment. - toilet sound: they have a septic system, so every couple of hours the toilet made this VERY loud noise. We had to buy earplugs because it kept on waking us up. - dirty closet: I had to clean the 4 drawers available to put my clothes. They were full of dust. - old towels: towels and linens were VERY old and definitively looked like they were from the 1940's. - very run down place. - all around the house was full of dust and there were spiderwebs. - directions to have access and check in were incomplete. - no walking distance to anything - overall not cleaned property - parking is not "on premises" but on the street because garage door doesn't work. Also the driveway is shared with the other property/other guests. - there were rats at the garden - bed was rather very small for 2 people. A hotel of the same price offers at least queen size. - somedoby must live there, so the only closet available was already taken, only 4 drawers and a tinny space of hanging closet was available, and the kitchen was just full of stuff so there was no place to put groceries. - This property has potential, but it definitively needs more TLC, repairs and renovations. I have stayed at other "historic" places in USA and Europe and they are beautifully maintained. This house is not the case. Next time for what I paid in this house ($311 per night with fees and everything), I could stay somewhere else closer to the beach, closer to town, and definitively somewhere cleaner and better maintained.

Response from Suzanne:
Angie I am surprised at your negative response to the property. I have not had any reviews this poor in the past. Everyone loves the area, the quiet, the charm and the history of the house and neighborhood. The towels and linens were new, so I'm not sure what you are referring to. I had the house professionally cleaned 2 days before your arrival. It is in a semi country area, in the foothills of Santa Barbara, so it is NOT within walking distance. This is apparent in the description and map. Everything is within a 2-5 min. drive -- beaches, restaurants, etc. If you saw any spider webs, they were most likely Daddy Long Legs that find their corner when they enter the house from the yard. We are in an orchard, where wildlife is a fact of life --- but for the city dweller, I can see that it might be out of their "comfort zone". We do not offer laundry unless guests stay for over a week. We are in a drought crisis and have an allocation set for our property, as do all properties in this area. AS for the loud noise from the toilet, this is just a recent issue due to a new regulator that was not installed properly. It has been taken care of. Before your arrival, I sent you an email with specific information about parking, the area, etc. It was sent as Helpful Info, and if it was read, is VERY specific about parking, the area, the front gate, and the use of washer dryer. I can only guess that you never read it. Otherwise, these complaints would not be so prevalent, and you would have known what to expect. I am sorry your experience was negative. I feel badly that you were so unhappy.

It was a very relaxing and pleasant time. The interior of the house is clean, and was maintained. We enjoyed the area and there was good communication with the owner. I would recommend this rental.
