About the Host, Roger And Cynthia
We have lived in Sonoma most all our lives and simply love it here. Cynthia’s family originally came to California during the Gold Rush and settled here in Sonoma Valley in 1870. From that beginning, they became grape growers, winemakers, beer makers, and provided a Bed & Breakfast Resort here named “Waldruhe”, meaning “Peaceful Forest” in English. So, in a sense, we are carrying on the family tradition, helping our guests to discover our favorite places here in Sonoma Valley.
We have lived in a few locations here over the years, but really like this spot best. It’s conveniently close to everything, but is so private and quiet. Just our style; have fun then come home and relax! Read a book, or just sit under the stars and talk over a glass of wine.
Roger is the historian and designer. He has worked for the California State Architects Division restoring many of the historic sites in Napa and Sonoma Counties. Many of the books available on our bookshelves explore the history of this part of California, either architecturally, or through the eyes of people who made this location their home. Hiking through Sonoma Valley and Yosemite are some of his favorite things to do. He is still involved in historic renovation and consults on various projects in this part of California.
Cynthia likes novels with California as the backdrop. So, her taste in literature follows that path and it is included in our book collection as well. Her best day is to talk to a good friend, take a long hike or go swimming, cook something delicious, and read a good book or watch a mystery. Cynthia’s family also has a long history in the Sierras, so Yosemite has become home away from home.
Our personal invitation to you, is to do as we do: Go out and play hard, drink some wine, come home, kick your shoes off, drink some wine (did I say that already?), and take it easy!
