  • This house is the perfect spot for a trip to wine country! Beautiful amenities and centrally located to downtown Sonoma, restaurants and numerous wineries. Cynthia and Robert were attentive and accommodating and went the extra step to make our experience memorable for the Fourth of July. All in all, a fantastic experience!

  • We loved our 4-night stay at Roger and Cynthia's Sonoma cottage. We were pleased to find that the house was located at the end of a very quiet street, and nearby to several fruit markets and a grocery store to stock up on provisions. There were 6 people staying in the cottage for our family trip to wine country, and everyone felt that the bedrooms were comfortable and that there was enough space to maneuver in/out of the two bathrooms in the house. The bathrooms were stocked with basic toiletries, and the kitchen had everything we needed to cook a homemade dinner to enjoy together each night, including a great spice rack. Having access to the washer/dryer was great - always nice to leave a vacation with a suitcase of clean clothes.
We also really appreciate Roger and Cynthia's communication about the house and surrounding wineries prior to arrival; it was our first time to Sonoma and it made organizing our vineyard trips much easier. Absolute highlight was our private wine&food pairing on the terrace at Gloria Ferrer!

  • This was a wonderful, warm and welcoming home for my adult children and myself! It was so beautiful and relaxing and I loved the country charm in the decor as well as the luscious figs from outside. After a day of wine tasting it was a joy to return for a soak in the outdoor tub before dining and a great place for evening down time or visiting. I'd come again for any period of time. Thanks Cynthia and Roger!

  • Roger and Cynthia's home is extremely well kept and very clean. Less than a ten minute drive to downtown Sonoma serves as a great location for winery visits throughout the valley. The neighborhood is very quiet, safe and relaxing. I would recommend this place to anyone looking to visit Sonoma.

  • The location and surroundings were relaxing and peaceful in very close proximity to downtown Sonoma. The accommodations were spacious and it felt like a "home away from home." Pricing was very reasonable and we will consider this location again if we travel to this region of California again.

  • My family had a wonderful experience staying at Roger and Cynthia's house. It was the perfect place for us to stay, and all was as expected. The beds were extremely comfortable, and there were window air conditioning units (which were great since it was 97* in Sonoma!). We loved using the kitchen and dining areas (both inside and out). Cynthia was very responsive with all of my questions, and was accommodating as well; leaving a cooler out for us to use, as well as instructions on how to use different things in the house and a bottle of wine! I recommend renting Roger and Cynthia's home! It was a great experience.

  • We had a very nice Memorial Day weekend at Roger and Cynthia's home. It's very clean, cute, and comfortable with a backyard area my 1 year old loved sitting in. It's also convenient to downtown Sonoma and restaurants (<10m drive).
Cynthia was very easy to communicate with and even found us a pack and play. She also verified we were there and settled once we arrived.

  • What a perfect weekend it was! Roger and Cynthia have a marvelous home situated within a minutes drive of downtown Sonoma. It's equipped with every convenience you can think of and they haven't forgotten the small touches that make all the difference.

The home is immaculate with wonderful sheets and towels. I loved the outdoor shower and wondered what it might be like to also indulge in the outdoor bathtub. Alas, we just didn't have enough days...

My wife and I went with another couple so the house was perfectly sized and each of us had sufficient privacy but also great space for living and dining. The house is bright and cheery and it took a bit of motivation to get us all up and out to visit the wineries.

Sonoma and the environs are wonderful and one never has enough time. So it looks like a return trip will be in order.

Thanks Roger and Cynthia for making this wonderful property available to us on Airbnb. It's a real gem.

  • We had a wonderful time in Sonoma, and the home of Roger and Cynthia was perfect! We only wished we had been able to stay longer. It was clean, comfortable, cozy, the beds and linens were soft and comfy, and the kitchen was fully stocked with all the necessary utensils and gadgets necessary for cooking in....though we ate out at the fabulous restaurants and did not cook. Cynthia came right over once we arrived and greeted us, and gave us some great suggestions, including visiting the redwoods, which we had previously not considered. She had also sent us recommended dining establishments as well as favorite wineries, prior to our visit. We would love to come back and would absolutely consider staying at this property again. Thanks for a wonderful contribution to our weekend in wine country!

  • Roger and Cynthia's home is outstanding. Every inch of the home, grounds, and patios are spotless... and the layout and decor is warm, artistic, and comfortable. Personal touches are everywhere. An information binder greets you with everything you need to know about the practicals in the home as well as area dining, wineries, and other Sonoma attractions.

The bathrooms were completely stocked (soaps, shampoos, lotion, paper goods) and the towels were well above hotel grade. Shower and bath were comfortable and the water was hot. We did not utilize the outdoor jacuzzi but it looked inviting.

The kitchen was equally well-stocked and we never needed anything. Our hosts had a bottle of wine and bottled water waiting for us as well.

The beds are new, very comfortable, and the bedding was significantly above hotel grade.

There's an outdoor patio off one of the master bedrooms that was incredibly peaceful and a backyard patio with lounge chairs, a picnic table and umbrella, and great greenery & flowers. As well, there's a wood burning fireplace in the living room (with wood well-stocked outside) and a remote controlled fireplace in the master bedroom that was a highlight for us.

The home is centrally located in the Sonoma area, offering very easy access to wineries and downtown Sonoma - but the home is situated in a very quiet and private neighborhood so you get the best of both worlds.

Roger and Cynthia's home epitomizes the very best of Airbnb.

We have lived in Sonoma most all our lives and simply love it here. Cynthia’s family originally came to California during the Gold Rush and settled here in Sonoma Valley in 1870. From that beginning, they became grape growers, winemakers, beer makers, and provided a Bed & Breakfast Resort here named “Waldruhe”, meaning “Peaceful Forest” in English. So, in a sense, we are carrying on the family tradition, helping our guests to discover our favorite places here in Sonoma Valley. We have lived in a few locations here over the years, but really like this spot best. It’s conveniently close to everything, but is so private and quiet. Just our style; have fun then come home and relax! Read a book, or just sit under the stars and talk over a glass of wine. Roger is the historian and designer. He has worked for the California State Architects Division restoring many of the historic sites in Napa and Sonoma Counties. Many of the books available on our bookshelves explore the history of this part of California, either architecturally, or through the eyes of people who made this location their home. Hiking through Sonoma Valley and Yosemite are some of his favorite things to do. He is still involved in historic renovation and consults on various projects in this part of California. Cynthia likes novels with California as the backdrop. So, her taste in literature follows that path and it is included in our book collection as well. Her best day is to talk to a good friend, take a long hike or go swimming, cook something delicious, and read a good book or watch a mystery. Cynthia’s family also has a long history in the Sierras, so Yosemite has become home away from home. Our personal invitation to you, is to do as we do: Go out and play hard, drink some wine, come home, kick your shoes off, drink some wine (did I say that already?), and take it easy!
