The house is centrally located just north of downtown San Jose, in the city’s historical district Barrio Otoya known for its old colonial style buildings and beautiful mansions.
Barrio Otoya and Amon were during their prime time the richest neighborhoods in San Jose where most of the elite used to live. Today many of the coffee baron mansions have been converted into quaint hotels, intimate bed and breakfast places, hostels, restaurants, cafes, art galleries, antique shops, boutiques, and offices. With its close proximity to downtown San Jose, these two areas are quite popular among the better-informed tourists.
Three parks: National, Morazan and Espana as well National Museum, Jade Museum, and Gold Museum and National Theater in Plaza de la Cultura are within short walking distance (3-10 minutes)
Guests have an access to the kitchen, laundry room, and to the patio on the first floor with tropical garden. In addition you may relax in my Vista Room located on the second floor with a spectacular view of downtown San Jose and the mountains.
No smoking, drugs, alcohol or visitors allowed.
Peter is fantastic. He is a great host and on my arrival he show me everything and gave me a general low down on the city. He also has 2 great dogs. His place is very close to the city centre and attractions.
Peter is the best host one can hope for! He’s incredibly kind and generous, going out of his way to make sure that you'll enjoy your stay in Costa Rica, while at the same time being discreet and respectful of your space if you need space and you feel more independent. Peter made me feel welcome and at ease. And his dogs are simply the most adorable living creatures. A very loving crew all in all.
The room was exactly as described and showed on pictures – no bad surprise. Peter’s place is very well located, nearby nice coffee shops and restaurants downtown as well as museums and other touristic attraction. I went to his place to attend a congress at the University of Costa Rica. His central location made it easy for me to travel back and forth to San Pedro everyday day while feeling I resided in the center of Costa Rica’s capital. You will find it simple with buses or cabs to travel around town – there’s lots of public transportation and easy access to the central bus station from where Peter lives. One plus for me was how clean Peter’s house (and rooms) is. I shared a bathroom with him and I never even noticed that he’d use it as well. It felt as if I had my own restroom. Room and bed and sheets are very clean.
I’d recommend Peter’s place to anyone going to San José, Costa Rica. He’s knowledgeable about the city and the country, having lived there for many years. He knows how to treat his guests with warmth and respect. I guarantee you will feel safe and at home in his place. Thank you again, Peter!
Peter is an excellent host, and his house is near several parks and museums and within walking distance of everywhere I wanted to go (including the bus to SJO). Though my stay was short, Peter and I had interesting conversations every morning over coffee and breakfast. I look forward to staying with Peter when I return to San José.
The people in the house where very kind, really friendly. The neighborhood is safe and beautiful. The room is big, clean, private. Everything was great.
I had a wonderful stay at Peter's place. Although I didn't get to meet Peter as he was traveling, someone was there to greet me at the door, help me with my luggage, show me the room and make me feel welcome. She even walked me downtown to show me where the supermarket and bank was! In the morning, we shared a cup of coffee, while I practiced my limited Spanish :-) The bed was comfortable, the room was quiet, well equipped, and secure. Loved the two sweet little dogs
this was my first experience with airbnb, and i'm completely won over. peter and gonzalo are the perfect hosts. my reservation was for just one, at noon. however, when i arrived 10 hours earlier (at 2:00 in the morning!) and with my 32 y/o daughter in tow, not only did they welcome us, they also upgraded us to a larger room, free of charge, until she could transfer to her beach destination in the afternoon. the house is on a quiet street overlooking san jose, a block off museums, lively old parks, and the bustling city center and its friendly "ticos" . and did i mention the patio, with the grotto shower and the hummingbirds darting from ginger to bird-of-paradise flowers? and the weather, eternal spring! the week went too fast; i'll be back (and my daughter has decided to stay at peter and gonzalo's this time).
Great place to explore the museums etc. of San Jose. Peter is a fantastic host. The place is great.
