The house is centrally located just north of downtown San Jose, in the city’s historical district Barrio Otoya known for its old colonial style buildings and beautiful mansions.
Barrio Otoya and Amon were during their prime time the richest neighborhoods in San Jose where most of the elite used to live. Today many of the coffee baron mansions have been converted into quaint hotels, intimate bed and breakfast places, hostels, restaurants, cafes, art galleries, antique shops, boutiques, and offices. With its close proximity to downtown San Jose, these two areas are quite popular among the better-informed tourists.
Three parks: National, Morazan and Espana as well National Museum, Jade Museum, and Gold Museum and National Theater in Plaza de la Cultura are within short walking distance (3-10 minutes)
Guests have an access to the kitchen, laundry room, and to the patio on the first floor with tropical garden. In addition you may relax in my Vista Room located on the second floor with a spectacular view of downtown San Jose and the mountains.
No smoking, drugs, alcohol or visitors allowed.
this was my first experience with airbnb, and i'm completely won over. peter and gonzalo are the perfect hosts. my reservation was for just one, at noon. however, when i arrived 10 hours earlier (at 2:00 in the morning!) and with my 32 y/o daughter in tow, not only did they welcome us, they also upgraded us to a larger room, free of charge, until she could transfer to her beach destination in the afternoon. the house is on a quiet street overlooking san jose, a block off museums, lively old parks, and the bustling city center and its friendly "ticos" . and did i mention the patio, with the grotto shower and the hummingbirds darting from ginger to bird-of-paradise flowers? and the weather, eternal spring! the week went too fast; i'll be back (and my daughter has decided to stay at peter and gonzalo's this time).
Great place to explore the museums etc. of San Jose. Peter is a fantastic host. The place is great.
I only have good things to say about my experience. Peter is a guest's dream. He greeted me at the door, helped me with my luggage and made me feel comfortable right away. His ambassadors, Rex and Mona were a joy. The room was very comfortable, with a bathroom across from the room. There was a warm and sunny day room where you could read, watch television or take a nap. The patio is surrounded by tropical foliage and is a great spot to read or take a nap. The location is within walking distance of a park and some delicious eating spots. Visiting Costa Rica was a great time. Peter's hospitality, charm and humor made the visit even better. Thank you Peter.
Peter's house is very pleasant and well-located, just a few minutes' walk from the city center. He was welcoming and helpful. I highly recommend this airbnb.
Had a great time in Peter's room. He really is close to everything...short walk to the city center, all the top museums and parks. House has a wonderful courtyard for relaxing. The two dogs are friendly once they've met you. House has all the amenities you need.
Although I did not have the time to get to know Peter on a personal level, he was a very respectful and wonderful host. Extremely helpful and friendly. When I left for the airport, he personally hailed a taxi for me and told the driver exactly where to drop me off and to show me which bus to take to airport.
The house is very clean and well kept, in a great location; safe and a short walk from downtown. The room is exactly as described in his pictures and details, if not better. Would definitely recommend staying here.
