What a great place! The Borgia Castle looks like a fairytale castle and we spent an absolutely wonderful time there. I certainly experienced the wow factor!
We were 13 people in total and all of us said it was a unique few days of our lives.
Because of the fine weather we could use the tennis court, enjoy the very clean water of the pool and the use of a fridge conveniently to hand! There was also a bathroom close to the pool!
Julie gave us a lot of information, made helpful recommendations about good restaurants, wine tasting in Montepulciano, where to buy good olive oil etc. However we decided to cater for ourselves so as to fully absorb the ambience of the castle.
The rooms are all so superbly outfitted that it was difficult to choose between them. The bathrooms are impeccably furnished. Hot water was constantly on tap; the new boiler was obviously doing it`s job!...
The house was presided over by a very gently spirit: Gianna. In the morning she scrupulously cleaned up after us, recycled empties and took away garbage. In addition she made the beds, cleaned the bathrooms and changed towels whenever necessary. This was a high level of service!
All of us will definitely return to Borgia Castle and sooner rather than later!
The castle was really nice, had a really good time. Was awesome to be in a place with so much history. Let me say that for the price we paid I believe we got a fair deal. But with just a few amenity upgrades the place would be a 5 star resort and could command a higher price. To be up to expectations of American travelers I would highly recommend the following:
1. Get more comfortable beds. This is crucial for a good experience. I would highly recommend upgrading all the mattresses to memory foam type, they are not expensive and they would be so much better than what you have there now.
2. Get real internet! A wireless wifi hotspot is not a valid solution for a group of traveling professionals. This was a big problem, having to be in a certain proximity to a mobile hotspot device that has slow speed and with only a few computer connections supported made it very difficult. Plus, when the data cap was reached we went without internet for 2 days. If your a traveler who doesn't have to worry about staying in touch with your business then this may not be a concern but it was huge for us.
3. More hot water would have been nice. It was good if you were first or second in the shower but after that the rest of the group had to take cold showers. But this could have been due to some of the women taking baths, I have a feeling if everyone just took quick showers that it might not have been such a problem. Water pressure was good.
These are just some friendly recommendations to help get the place up to American standards if that is what you desire. I am not saying I would not stay again as is, just what I would be willing to pay more for in order to have these upgrades.
All in all we had a great time, Julie was a great hostess and gave us lots of good recommendations. Her kitchen staff was absolutely amazing and cooked us the best meals that we had during our entire 2 weeks in Italy. The castle grounds are amazing, the pool area is amazing with awesome views of the lake. The place is not far from plenty of restaurants, etc. nearby so you won't get bored. I would highly recommend anyone to come and check this place out and I am very thankful to Julie for the experience.
