I can help my guests and give them any information they want. I can also be very discrete.
The house is located in Ano Petralona,a district full of streets lined with orange and olive trees, olive trees. It is a neighborhood renowned for its authentic and not expensive tavernas, its cosy bars and its delightful old athenian traditional atmosphere. Ano Petralona is much appreciated by the intellectuals and the young people of Athens who enjoy the lively ambience of the area.
The main focus of the neighborhood is Troon street, where the house is located. Within a walking distance from the house (1 minute by foot), you can find one the most known open movie theater in Athens, called "Zephyros" with auteur films projections. On Friday you can also enjoy a local producer open market in the street nearby, where you can find a profusion of fruits and vegetables.
It is an ideal location if you plan to visit the treasures of Athens: ten minutes on foot from Acropolis and other major historical sites (Ancient Agora, Herodion Theater, Acropolis museum...)
Easy public transport access (metro, trolley, bus)
Encore mille merci a Clio.
Clio was so sweet from the time that we arrived until our departure. She had fruit, bread, water, and had made us a wonderful Greek Salad for our arrival. She showed us around the home and she was also available by phone for any questions that we had. We can't thank her enough for letting us stay in her beautiful house while we were in Greece. Her home was everything we were hoping for and more. The location is fantastic!
Clio met us at the door, served us juice and a fine Greek salad, conducted a comprehensive tour, and made us feel right at home, She showed us the proper way to enjoy the kumquat tree in her patio, popping whole fruit into her mouth and chewing it peel and all. I found a pocketful of kumquats the perfect thirst quencher on our walk to the Parthenon (her house is an easy walk to the Acropolis and the Saturday produce market). From her roof and balcony we saw quite a bit of the city's fireworks on New Year's Eve. We never quite understood the burglar alarm system, but managed to cope well enough. On the whole, we were most pleased with the accommodations Clio provided for our visit to Athens (two children, their two parents, and their two grandparents).
We had a wonderful stay in Clio's beautiful home. She went out of her way before, during and after our stay to ensure we felt fully at home and have everything we needed.
The house is in a great location, close to transport and many fab restaurants on the doorstep.
I would recommend a stay here to anyway and thank you again Clio for such a great time!
Clio was a wonderful hostess and we enjoyed staying at her beautiful and well located house. Upon arrival, we were greeted with a delicious Greek salad and fresh fruit which was much appreciated by our family (2 grandparents, 2 parents and 2 kids aged 4 and 6).
The house has 3 bedrooms and can easily accommodate 6-7 adults. All bedrooms are on the 1st floor (there is also a family area upstairs) and the ground floor has a fully appointed kitchen (including dishwasher), a living / dining room, a bathroom with a shower and a washing machine (so you don't need to carry too many clothes with you- makes more space for shopping!). The 2 upstairs bathrooms have bathtubs. There was plenty of space in each room of the house. Air-conditioning was available in the bedrooms / family area on the first floor only and not on the ground floor (got a bit stuffy downstairs when the windows / doors were shut). There is one TV and it is in the master bedroom on the first floor. Our kids were not too thrilled by this at the beginning but our days were so filled up with activities that they very quickly forgot about TV during the holiday.
The house is in an excellent location, 10 mins walk to Filipapou Hill (great views of Acropolis) and 15-20 mins walk to Acropolis, Monastiraki and Plaka. Within 2 minutes walk from the house there is a well stocked Spar supermarket, a small corner store (good for buying international calling cards and late evening shopping). There are also very reasonably priced / extremely tasty restaurants for seafood, greek and french food. Note the restaurants mainly open only at dinnertime. Within 5 mins walk of the house there is a small square with a bakery, a gyros / kebab shop, coffee shops etc. All these businesses were primarily for local residents and accordingly the quality was high and prices reasonable.
We loved the fact that we were living in a Greek neighbourhood and enjoyed seeing residents going about their day to day life. People were friendly and helpful.
One small drawback to the house is that all of the nearby restaurants / tavernas have open air tables and on one or two nights the outside noise was loud at night. We had the air-conditioning on and were extremely tired after long days of being tourists in Athens so didn't mind it so much.
We didn't use the buses, trams or metro from the house but understood from Clio that it was 7-10 minutes walk to it. We ordered taxis from the house and they arrived within 5-10 minutes with no problem and for a relatively low cost, took us to various locations in Athens.
Clio speaks excellent French and good English. She responded promptly to emails before our trip which gave us much comfort. She is also very knowledgeable and has maps, guides and suggestions galore. Do ask her for advice, you won't regret it!
Our friendship with Clio started well before our journey. While making the reservations, I found Clio to be extremely helpful. She replied promptly to each of my questions and was most helpful about arranging the infant cot.
On arriving in Athens, my family and I were delighted to meet Clio and stay in her beautiful house. Extremely warm, Clio took us around the house and explained to us the very simple house rules. The house was exquisite to say the least. Done up in excellent taste, it has beauty tucked away in every part of it. It was also lovely to chat with Clio who is a wonderful person and greatly impressed us with her knowledge about India !
We still remember the lovely garden where we would eat our breakfast and plan for the day, the warm well equipped kitchen where we cooked some meals, the study where we would rest after a long tiring day, the salon upstairs where our little baby would crawl around , the beautifully done bathrooms and the cute little room with an attic like space. The house is so tastefully done that it is a work of art and Clio has maintained it impeccably.
The location is good: a 10 minute walk to the metro station and a 15-odd minute walk to the Acropolis. It is in an old residential part of Athens: away from main roads and traffic. Walking around the neighborhood and its local taverns, one gets a good idea of how well-to-do Athenians live. The only problem was some noise at night from a pub by the house. However, there was absolutely no problem with safety: we felt very safe coming home even very late at night.
We would recommend this house to anybody who wants to live in tasteful luxury and get to interact with a wonderful person, Clio.
What a very nice journey in Athens at Clio's!
The house is very beautifully furnished and decorated, the location is perfect in a very nice district (out of the very touristic area but at 10 minutes walk from Acropolis), the bedroom is very comfortable and the breakfast I asked for was excellent in the lovely courtyard!
But the best of this journey is Clio herself, her warm welcome and her kindness. Her advice was well adapted to my short journey, she knows so well about Athens and things that are really worth it.
Her French is excellent too which can help ;)
To sum up, I highly recommend this house and the opportunity to meet Clio.
Efkaristo para poli Clio!
See you soon hopefully.
We spent a few days at the your wonderful home. Visiting big cities as Athens, especially in summer, is very exhausting, which is a non-stop, but thank your house we recovered. We were very comfortable, relaxed and cool in your garden so it’s ideal for breakfast and dinner. The house neoclassical style, well decorated, is well located and is within walking distance to most interesting sites. Clio, you are a lovely person, very friendly and generous. In summary, a five-star stay.
