Quietly situated in the small Somerset village of Holcombe, The Cottage is the perfect country getaway. We are 30 minutes south of Bath. Perfect for touring the South West. Family friendly.
A hearty farmhouse breakfast is provided of bacon, sausages, eggs, mushrooms and tomatoes.
The cosy and well-equipped cottage has been furbished to a high standard. The beautifully decorated bedroom, with an ensuite wet room, offers a stylish and comfortable night’s rest. Fresh linen and towels are included. The open-plan downstairs (lounge/kitchen/diner) is bright and airy with TV, DVD, wifi, ipod station and comfortable sofa that can be opened into a double bed. The kitchen is fully equipped with a three-ring hob, oven, microwave, fridge, dishwasher and washing machine. The living area opens out onto a private garden and patio with an outdoor fire, perfect for long summer evenings as it catches the last of the sun. There is also a secure storage area to keep bikes.
Breakfast will be served by me every morning from 9am-11am.
The Cottage’s central location makes an ideal base for touring the South West, with Bath, Wells and Cheddar Gorge all on your doorstep.
Walks and bike rides are definitely a must as the surrounding countryside is breath taking, especially during spring with the daffodils blooming.
Bath is a short car journey away with its literature and music festivals. The Thermae Bath Spa is a wonderful and relaxing way to spend an afternoon. This historic city has many stunning places to visit including the crescents, the Assembly Rooms and Prior Park gardens (where Pride and Prejudice was filmed).
The smallest English city of Well is also a short trip away. The cathedral is breath-taking and hosts many delightful concerts. There is also a weekly market with stalls filled with local produce and quirky jewellery.
There are several notable National Trust properties in this area: Lytes Cary, Montecute House and Stourhead to name but a few.
There are golf courses in Bath and Wells.
Frome is a charming town filled with snug tearooms and eccentric little vintage shops.
Babington House, a private members house, is just 8miles away and is perfect for tea on the lawn or drinks at their stunning bar.
The Mulbury factory shop and Kilver Court retail outlet is just outside Shepton Mallet.
The Glastonbury tor is a definite for anyone visiting the area, as is the town itself.
There is plenty for kids to do as well. Longleat is just down the road and is always popular. Farleigh Hungerfod has one of the country’s last swimming clubs; wild swimming in the river is perfect for those summer months. The castle is also incredibly exciting. Nunney also has a beautiful castle that the kids are free to run around in. Cheddar Gorge is incredible fun with tours through the caves and rock-climbing for the more adventurous among us. Tennis courts can be found just a short distance away in Writhlington.
There are also two charming pubs within walking distance, as is the local village shop.
We are very rural so it is best to have a car. There is a limited bus service from the village.
Our stay with Claire was lovely, the cottage was clean and plenty big enough for the four of us. Claire provided a delicious lemon drizzle cake which was polished off earlier this evening. Holcombe has two pubs, both of which we sampled and enjoyed. Would definitely recommend others to stay here. First class cottage and a first class host. Thanks Claire
Lovely little home away from home, greeted by freshly made lemon cake! Claire was a fabulous host who cooks a delicious breakfast. The cottage is warm, cosy and very clean. Claire was great for giving us tips on where to go and titbits on places. It's a great base to explore the lovely surrounding countryside being near to Bath and Wells. We missed the waffles but hopefully next time!
Couldn't recommend more if you're looking for a quiet, peaceful break away from urban chaos. Lovely host, cosy cottage and delicious breakfasts.
Staying at Claire's cottage was an absolute pleasure. Perfectly located within the quiet and calm surroundings of the countryside. Each night we slept soundly with nothing but the occasional call of an owl. Claire completes the 5-Star experience with her expansive knowledge of the local area, warm welcome and tasty breakfasts brought to the table each morning! Claire's cottage is highly recommended and we will definitely be staying again in the future. We took the advice of previous comments and went with Claire's waffles on our last morning. They did not disappoint!
Thank you once again for our stay, Claire. Look forward to booking your cottage again soon.

A really love cottage, setup with absolutely everything you need and surrounded by beautiful countryside. A perfect weekend retreat whether you're exploring Bath, Wells, or any other bit of Somerset.
And Claire is an amazing hostess, makes you feel really welcome, she lent us wellies and gave us directions for a nice walk, and cooks a mean breakfast. A home from home.
My two friends and I spent a lovely weekend in Claire's cottage at the beginning of December. Great location, fantastic facilities, Claire really was the perfect host and the breakfasts were epicly good. The cottage was exactly what we were looking for for a girly weekend away near Bath and the kitchen/dining/living facilities (which were much larger than the pictures would suggest) gave us the freedom to sit around, chat, eat, drink and generally use the place as if it was our own. We'll definitely be going back if we're in the area again, and I would heartily recommend it to anyone who's looking for a Somerset getaway, whatever time of year. Thanks Claire for a great weekend!
We have spent a wonderful time at "The cottage". Claire is a lovely host and a really nice person.
The place is big, super clean and cosy. The kitchen is well equipped. The bed upstairs is very comfortable. The breakfast is awesome!!!
We would strongly recommend staying at "the cottage". We rented a car to get their and did not regret it. The surroundings are beautiful (don't miss Wells and Nunney)!!!
Thanks again Claire for the warm welcome ad say hi to Boris :)!
Top place for a quiet, romantic getaway or retreat. Spotless cottage, beautifully furnished, and lovely touches of wonderful hospitality like homemade crunchy flapjack and warm apple cake straight from the oven. Fresh ground coffee in the jar, a great selection of DVDs to play on the TV, and wifi for the essential connectedness of modern life are all just indicative of the thought, quality and care Claire has put into this lovely place. She is attentive, warm and very engaging, and happy to provide whatever breakfast is desired, as well as advice on what to see or do in the area, if you need to know.
A very high quality experience, and we would love to come back as soon as we can!
Our stay at the cottage was lovely. It was well equipped with everything you could hope for on a trip. It was so nice to be able to do a little laundry and have a homey living space to recharge. Claire was an excellent host, cooking tasty breakfasts and offering tips about the area.
