The Cottage’s central location makes an ideal base for touring the South West, with Bath, Wells and Cheddar Gorge all on your doorstep.
Walks and bike rides are definitely a must as the surrounding countryside is breath taking, especially during spring with the daffodils blooming.
We can also offer guided walks in our area.
Bath is a short car journey away with its literature and music festivals. The Thermae Bath Spa is a wonderful and relaxing way to spend an afternoon. This historic city has many stunning places to visit including the crescents, the Assembly Rooms and Prior Park gardens (where Pride and Prejudice was filmed).
The smallest English city of Well is also a short trip away. The cathedral is breath-taking and hosts many delightful concerts. There is also a weekly market with stalls filled with local produce and quirky jewellery.
There are several notable National Trust properties in this area: Lytes Cary, Montecute House and Stourhead to name but a few.
There are golf courses in Bath and Wells.
Frome is a charming town filled with snug tearooms and eccentric little vintage shops.
Babington House, a private members house, is just 8miles away and is perfect for tea on the lawn or drinks at their stunning bar.
The Mulbury factory shop and Kilver Court retail outlet is just outside Shepton Mallet.
The Glastonbury tor is a definite for anyone visiting the area, as is the town itself.
There is plenty for kids to do as well. Longleat is just down the road and is always popular. Farleigh Hungerfod has one of the country’s last swimming clubs; wild swimming in the river is perfect for those summer months. The castle is also incredibly exciting. Nunney also has a beautiful castle that the kids are free to run around in. Cheddar Gorge is incredible fun with tours through the caves and rock-climbing for the more adventurous among us. Tennis courts can be found just a short distance away in Writhlington.
There are also two charming pubs within walking distance, as is the local village shop.
We are very rural so it is best to have a car. There is a limited bus service from the village.
No pets. No smoking inside the cottage.
This was our first getaway for a while and a well deserved break! And we could not have chosen a better venue and host.
The cottage itself is spacious and very well equipped. It looks onto a stunning garden which makes the stay more relaxing and homely. It was very clean and all the linen and bedding etc was spotless as well. There is provision to make an open fire on the patio and we enjoyed it on a cool night while we relaxed with a glass of wine!
Claire is an absolutely lovely person and a fantastic host and while the Cottage is on its own, Claire is on hand to help with the local area information and provide a delicious breakfast every morning which set us up for the rest of the day :) .
Claire welcomed us with a scrumptious banana bread that she had baked herself , and had stocked the fridge with milk/yoghurts and cupboards with bread/jam/butter and all other key essentials.
The location is about 30 mins drive away from the Odd Down Park n Ride which is what we used to get into Bath and found it very helpful (another one of Claire's recommendations).
Claire's pet dog ,Boris, is a delight - a terrier / poodle mix puppy - he is playful and patient and kept us entertained !
We will definitely be recommending Claire to all our friends and family and cannot wait to go back ! Thanks Claire for making our trip so relaxing, for the conversations, the advice on the local area, the food and for being so welcoming , see you soon :-) Sumita and Phil Howe.
Claire was a very welcoming host who went out of her way to make us feel at home. The property was clean and set in a lovely rural environment. There was no noise pollution at all and perfect to get away from the busy London bustle.
Our stay was absolutely beautiful! couldn't recommend Claire's enough. We were greeted by Claire who left us a lovely cake after our long journey. The accommodation itself was stunning!
Claire was extremely helpful & kind. It was our first visit to Somerset so we weren't too sure which places to see & visit but Claire advised us. Will definitely be returning again soon! X
Claire was a fantastic host. We were quite last minute booking but Claire had everything ready. Claire was also really friendly and happy to help. The breakfasts were yummy and brought to us in our cottage on (website hidden) the time we had agreed. The cottage has a lovely feel to it, having been done up to a good standard and well maintained. It was a great size for me, my husband and our baby. And the local scenery was so much more beautiful than I had expected. It was also great to have Claire there to share some local tips on where to go and what to do. Thanks for a lovely stay.
When we booked Claire's beautiful cottage near Bath we were delighted with the quaint look and feel...arriving there, we found it tone exactly that. Claire was available to greet us and instruct us as needed. Claire went out of her way to make sure our needs were met, which were greatly appreciated by us. The space is delightful, functional and filled with kindness. I would encourage anyone seeking a moment of respite from traveling to head to Claires'! I would also suggest to anyone needing a place in the area that is spotless, well organized and comfortable to head to Claires'. Blessings on the journeys!
Had a lovely time at Claire's place. As mentioned by others, there was a very welcoming lemon drizzle cake on arrival, as well as milk and plenty of tea and coffee. Lovely cooked breakfasts every day and Claire was super friendly and accommodating.
We stayed for 5 days at this wonderful cottage and from the moment we arrived Claire made us feel at home. From her thoughtful welcome gift (the lemon drizzle cake is indeed to die for!), to the delicious breakfasts and helpful sightseeing recommendations, she made our stay in Somerset absolutely perfect.
