Rooms to rent (single, dobles with 1 or 2 beds and triple) in a wooden two-story house in tropical garden in Playa Negra. Internet Wireless and eqquiped kitchen available. Discounts to stays of 1 week or more.
The house is uniquely located in front of Playa Negra to enjoy the tranquility of the beach and the wildlife surrounding us. Simultaneously, it is only less than 10 minutes walk to downtown Cahuita and other amenities nearby.
The house has wireless internet and kitchen facilities plus a fenced big garden, safe for kids. Also the two staircases have doors to keep little ones from falling. Linen and towels provided. Two outdoors showers as well (1 with rain water).
Interaction with Guests
Depends on the guests and my workload but I have my private quarters at the back of the house, so I am always around.
It is peaceful and quiet while having nearby some of the best amenities in town. Only 200 meters from the house we have the best fish restaurant in town and further up in Playa Negra there is live music and other great places to enjoy.
Most people go around with bicycles, which can easily be rented (there is also a spare free one at the house). Public buses will take you anywhere nearby you want to visit. Car rental available too.
Other Things to Note
My dog Rocco is huge (he is a Great Dane!) but known in Cahuita as the gentlest of dogs. Kids love it!!! Mishi has come to live with us recently, she is a female cat and Rocco and her are (almost) good friends by now!
Smoking is only permitted outdoors.
Pets are allowed but we firstly need to talk about it.
Christina was a great host - she was very welcoming and the house was just perfect.
Thank you Christina!
Die Unterkunft haben wir wie in der Beschreibung dargestellt vorgefunden.
Nah am Meer, mit toller Veranda :-)
We had a very good time at Cristinas house. Our baby stayed with us and Cristina gave us everything we needed (extra pillow, we choosed our own room..)
The beach is in front of the house and supermarket or restaurants not far. We can recommend Cristina and her dogs :)
Cristina was very sweet to give me ginger tea since I came there with the beginnings of a bad cold. The bed though, was terrible. Really terrible. It was a thin plastic pad on top of wooden slats that didn't even go the full length of the bed. Cristina's attitude changed sharply after I mentioned how uncomfortable my sleep was and the rest of the stay was tense as heck. I still am surprised at the cold treatment I got after asking to change beds when no one else was there. She grudgingly called one taxi for me and wouldn't try anyone else when no one answered. This was enough to have me book a hotel room at the Radisson to get back on track with sleep and comfort. The house was very warm and the deck upstairs was a great place to read or watch movies - great hammock I could actually get in and out of easily! ha! The location was fine but maybe closer to Cahuita National Park would be more fun. She did let me check out 2 hours later for shuttle pick up (but stayed very quiet while I asked her if I could - like I was putting her out).
I don't usually like to comment about bad guests but Lisa is the kind you will rather avoid, cannot believe all the time I wasted answering her questions for months. She contacted me in August, talking of a stay of a month or more. . Used me as a source of all kind of information, from traveling tips and places in Central America to transportation advice and activities in the area. She sent me about 25 emails in total. Asked me repeatedly questions about the house and the location which were already answered in the airbnb post. In November, she booked for 5 nights. Then she cancelled. Then booked again for less days. Once here she decided to cancel again some more days. The following evening, she asked to be changed to another room complaining of the bed. Next evening she bombarded me with SMS in my only night out in weeks asking me to hurry back home immediately because she could not get to open the door herself. Her last SMS was to let me know she had to pee on a tree and was bitten by ants! Uff....and I almost forgot....her last requirement was to get her a taxi not to walk for 500 meters. Honestly... could not wait for her to be gone!!
Ha estado bien, el pueblo de Cahuita es muy chulo!!
La casa es agradable, sobre todo porque estábamos solos.
Se escucha el mar desde la terraza.
Cristina nos trató bien.

I moved to Cahuita a short time ago after several years working on climate change vulnerability research in risk-prone farming communities in El Salvador. Nowadays I carry on my research interests mostly from home, only leaving temporarily for fieldwork. Previously, I have travelled extensively and lived in several places around the world. I love cinema, music, good conversations and enjoying the simple things in life, such a good meal with friends or a nice walk at the beach with my dog Rocco.
