It is completely furnished with magnificent Indian/Indonesian furniture.

  • Let me first say that I use Airbnb a lot when I travel and have stayed in some pretty extravagant places. Therese's home was filled with high end design, a wonderful staff and we really felt the love when we arrived. It's like our hearts skipped a beat we were so excited. The beds are absolutely fabulous to look at and even more wonderful to sleep in. The showers are like bathing in a dream. The whole place is really. The view from the pool into the jungle is beyond beautiful. For the artist I definitely say this is the best of best retreats. Go go go!

  • Lila Bamboo Villa is an amazing place....It was the perfect start to our trip to Indonesia. It is beautiful and exceeded our expectations. Beautifully & thoughtfully decorated....with an air of peacefulness.
Therese did a fantastic job of accomodating us and assisting us with everything we needed. Arranging pick up from airport and recommending Joko our driver for 2 days. His excellent English, knowledge of the area and wonderful personality made it easy to check out the many sites.
I can't say enough nice things about Therese she showed us the way to town thru the monkey forest (its a nice walk) and gave us great recommendations for dining (the melting wok) and a friend who sells beautiful batik. The property is a special place. There is a staff on the property so it makes it easy if you want have a meal in or even have food delivered, massage at the house etc. All at reasonable prices. Therese and Ioannis are incredibly kind and interesting people and are doing amazing work. It was an hounor to have stayed in their home and to have met them.

  • Therese and Ioannis are excellent hosts! They were up waiting to greet us in the early hours of the morning and made us feel welcome once again. They are a wealth of knowledge about Ubud and they were also very accommodating in providing to our requests.

The villa itself is clean, cozy with a lot of charming features (as you can see from the photos). The kitchen is well stocked with all the fresh produces from their own garden. The beds were super comfortable. And, of course, the view is a real show-stopper.

We slept with the windows open and were treated to all kinds of nature sounds in the morning! And it's so quiet, you feel like you're far from the city--but you're a fifteen minutes drive from central Ubud. The surrounding area is super cool with plenty of nature, lots of meditation and chill-out areas.

In short, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this villa to travellers who are curious and enjoy discovering the original Ubud.

  • Wow! What an incredible place. The fact that the home itself could not be more perfect in terms of comfort, beauty and attention to detail the energy within the house is hard to explain other than - bliss! The house has been so carefully designed to be complimentary to its surroundings, and I could feel how happy all of the surroundings were with how much care has been taken to respect the natural flow of energy in and around the villa. Theres and Ionnis could not have been more accommodating, respectful of our space and gracious when we asked for something. I can not wait to send all of my family and friends here one day- what a treat. Thank you! My best friend and I shall never forget it.

  • I have uncovered the secret of life in Bali and it was the most awesome stay in Bali.

It felt like I was a family member living with Therese and Ioannis. Ioannis and Therese are the most gracious and accommodating host full of love, compassion and passion. They were ever so patient as we arrived late into the night after postponing the check-in time a number of time due to work commitment. On arrival we were immediately offered the most restorative drink full of nutrients. It came from their own vegetables and herbal gardens. It was like living in a home away from home. The warmth of living with a family was ever present during our stay.

The villa itself is a beautiful representation of island life, with carefully-crafted Balinese designs and inspirational use of natural materials from the surrounding areas of Ubud. There is a sense of living in the embrace of nature. There is beauty everywhere, in the views, in the art and antiques, and the construction details of the house itself, clearly built by hand. The natural materials and open-air ventilation create an atmosphere that is immediately relaxing and rejuvenating.

Albeit my short stay, it left me a sense of wonder and respect. I am looking forward to returning and staying longer in the future.

Mid Wife/Scholar of Sanskrit/Accupuncturist-Breath of Hope Foundation Inc - program Development for Children. Satyagraha Ashram foundation for children. Founder and vissionary of Lila Bamboo Villa and a sustainable life style.
About
Therese Poulsen is a mid wife, a Dr of accupunctur, a Ashtanga Yoga Teacher, and the founder of "Breath of Hope Foundation Inc" & Satyagraha Ashram for children. A Journey of Heart into the Souls of Children. I Love to make a difference in the lives of children. Breath of Hope Foundation was founded to fulfill this vision using the grounding signs of nature and the ancient science of yoga, which through BOH programs has created a network of hope for children and communities in South East Asia, in responding to requests and fielding interest in other parts of the world as well. I Love the nature, Loving kindness and care. My children and my animals and the great sacred teachings. I love the Sea, rideing horses, skiing and running—my deep passion for yoga and its discipline complimented and supported deeper and profound experience, as well as gave great support to lifes challenges and demands. As a dedicated Eastern medicine practitioner and with my science background and with my great passion and quriousity for answers of life brought me to have great desire to work hands-on with people. Life motto: The Breath of Hope Foundation, Inc. (BOH), is a not-for-profit international organization that fosters empowerment and transfor¬mation in at-risk children and communities through a therapeutic intervention of yoga, meditation and philosophy. In collaboration with educators and research¬ers BOH is advancing knowledge of the benefits of yoga and pro¬moting integrative healing and resiliency for trauma-affected chil¬dren and other populations. Its educational and training curriculum is designed to rekindle hope and peace in at-risk children through school/com¬munity based yoga programs that stim¬ulate a ripple effect from the child to the family, school and beyond. BOH has conducted extensive re¬search in Indonesia and in Sri Lanka with victims of the 2004 tsunami, generating scientific evidence for the benefits of yoga to children and communi¬ties. The studies have established that as self-awareness of the mind-body connection is heightened, overall physical and mental health also improves, circulation and blood chemistry are boosted, and the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems recover their equilibrium. Benefits to the psychological development of children include increased concentration and creativity. Their enhanced social development is reflected in a greater receptivity, sense of gratitude and generosity, and a new willingness to trust. BOH is the seed in which Satyagraha Ashram for children was born. “Satyagraha” is a synthesis of the Sanskrit words “Satya” (truth) and “Agraha” (holding firm), and it was characterized by Mahatma Gandhi in his peace movement. Satyagraha is culturally sensitive; we continuously research within the culture to see how we can serve in the best possible way. Satyagraha Ashram’s vision is to provide children with tools, which offer them a view into healthy and self-sustaining lifestyles, manifest¬ing love and respect for the planet. At Satyagraha we are equally committed to humanity and nature. This remarkable school for or¬ganic living is nestled within the village of Nyuh Kuning, Ubud, Bali. It is surrounded by beautiful old Blanggog trees; rivers run through the grounds, and the serenity of the land¬scape insulates Satyagraha from the bustle of traffic and tourism in nearby Ubud. The Ashram garden contains an organic vegetable plot to provide the children hands-on experience of how to manifest pesticide-free nourishment, as well as a herbal (email hidden)¬posting area recycles organic waste, and the Ashram’s three happy cows do their own recycling by mowing the grass, which they trans¬form into milk, and into dung for fertilizer. Satyagraha has donated two pieces of land to the village for growing flowers that are used by the local women for temple offer¬ings, to support the old traditional Ba¬linese culture. In serving one another the villagers help care for our gardens at Satyagraha. A beautiful yoga shala made of bamboo provides a platform for yoga practice, in which people of all ages from nearby areas participate. Fundraising is an integral part of any not for profit organization. Therese Poulsen has thus far, used much of her own capital to stabi¬lize the projects and conduct research. A key part of the Ashram however, is Lila Bamboo Villa - a traditional Balinese Wantilan bamboo villa with three stories - magnificent and luxuri¬ous, though thoroughly soulful. The villa was specifically built to be rented for private vaca¬tions, reunions, or small conferences and seminars. All the revenues from the rentals provide funding for the foundation’s work. Lila Bamboo is one of Indone¬sia’s tallest Wantilan structures. The traditional architecture utilizes sustainable materials: bamboo, palm leaves, alang alang, and local river stones. The interiors feature exceptional pieces of Balinese local wood and stone craftsmanship. Sounds of crickets and frogs echoes like an orchestra; the scent of frangipani, the traditional Balinese temple flower, fills the air. There is a sense of living in the embrace of nature.
