A beautiful house from 1920 in a very nice neighborhood, powered by solar electricity.
You will find yourself comfortable in our wonderful basement apartment which features a lovely bedroom (queen bed), living room, and bathroom with shower. The bedroom has an entrance from the back yard so you can come and go as you wish. We have a spare twin mattress which can be put on the floor for guests who do not want to share the queen bed.
From the bedroom, you can walk outside and enjoy our beautiful back yard. The bathroom with shower is accessed directly from the living room. There is also a laundry room in the basement which you are welcome to share with us. In the laundry room there is also a refrigerator and microwave for your use. Please note that we occasionally walk through the living room to access the laundry room.
Our 1920 home was recently completely restored including the basement which is cozy, comfortable and cool (especially in the summer months). We are powered by solar energy from panels on the roof so you can feel extra green when staying with us.
We are a two minute walk away from Porter Square and the Red Line T (subway) which takes you to downtown Boston in less than 20 minutes. Harvard Square is about 20 minutes away walking or one stop on the T. Davis Square is about 10 minutes away walking or one stop on the T. Porter Square has a shopping area with a grocery store open 24/7, coffee shop, book store, restaurants etc. You can't find a more convenient location than this. We have guest parking permits for street parking in case you plan to arrive by car.
With the private entrance you will get the feeling of an apartment rather than a private room. We welcome international guests. Besides English, we speak Swedish, Danish and Chinese.
Interaction with Guests
We are a family of four living in the house and we enjoy meeting new people, in particular our children Albin 3 years old and Linnea 5 years old.
Porter Square Red Line subway stations is only a few minutes away.
We'd be really happy if you take off your shoes and leave them on the shoe plate inside the door. We like to keep our house clean and that is a lot easier when everyone takes off their shoes.
Lovely apartment exactly as in the description. Clean, comfortable and a great location! It was minutes away from public transport (Porter Square) and from shopping. I had very little personal contact with the hosts but Anders replies to my queries here were swift and helpful.
I would definitely stay again if I'm in the area!
The hosts are kind and was easy to communicate with. They allowed us to use the refrigerator, spoons, soap, microwave. Was like to be at home.
It's a lovely house near of the Porter Station. It's near a CVS 24h, a Walgreens 24h, and many other restaurants and stores. Great location.
The room is beautiful, clean and very spacious. Exactly like the pictures.
It's true, the bathroom have no physical separation and bother a little to dry, but still it's a brand new bath with all the facilities and very clean.
Yes, Ander have two adorable kids who no bothered us at all, only saw and hear them the day we met. It's a really quiet house. Sometimes, like it is common in US houses, you can hear steps on up floors.
I am like 5.4ft and the high of the basement no was a problem. If you are a tall person, maybe more than 6ft, you gonna have problem here, like you securely have in other places.
I loved this apartment, 100% recommended!
I enjoyed my stay with Anders and his family. The space was exactly as described and quite comfortable. Staying there during one of the snowiest times in recent memory, the rooms were quite warm. A few items to be noted for the discerning traveler: 1) the space is a finished basement. It is done very well but the as mentioned in previous reviews, the ceilings are a little low so if your pushing 6ft +, it's going to seem cramped. 2) Anders has two small and adorable children who are quite active. I will say that play time during the day can sound like a fierce battle between Godzilla and Mothra taking down Tokyo, but they are children and that's what children do. If you're going to be upset by that, I'd seek another place. 3) The bathroom is very well appointed, but it is very european with the shower head and toilet behind the shower curtain and no tub to catch the water. I found it to be very cool and reminded me of places I've stayed overseas. Again, if you're looking for a master bathroom with walk in shower, reconsider.
If these three items don't bother you, then this place is ideal! Amazing location, super nice host, and a great price! I'd gladly stay here again!
Great place. Just like my past stay it was clean. Comfortable. Will come again
Great communication…location very good…just a 2-3 walk to supermarket, stores, public transit… very short public ride to MIT and Harvard Square.
I will definitely return and recommend...
The host was very welcoming. The listing was deceptive, however. It stated that it was bed and breakfast. The only "breakfast" was a keurig machine with some flavors to choose from. There was also a microwave, but nothing to put in it.
On another topic the ceilings are extremely low, so don't book this room if you're tall; I'm 5 ft 10 in and my head was inches from the ceiling when standing. The shower and toilet have no physical separation which makes the bathroom, especially for taking showers, feel cramped.
Finally, the hosts kids are very loud and may be an annoyance to some.
This is a lovely small apartment, spotless and charming. It's very convenient to the subway and shopping. Had little contact with the hosts but they were quick to respond when contacted and seemed nice.
