Perfect for the solo traveler, this cozy modern colonial one bedroom apartment is located in the heart of Oaxaca’s Historical Center. It is close to two of the loveliest parks in the city and overlooks the always lively cobble stone pedestrian walkway which is lined with museums, galleries and shops. We are directly behind the iconic Santo Domingo church and the Botanical Garden. There are views into the garden and the domes of the church can be seen from the patios and roof-top terrace. The combined living and dining area has its own private patio/entry. The bedroom has a built-in workspace and a flat-screen TV. The bathroom is decorated with Talavera tiles. The patio provides the perfect place for breakfast, coffee, or a cool afternoon or evening drink al fresco. All utilities and the cutest little yellow dog you’ve ever seen are included in the rent.

We had an amazing 3 week stay at Casa Zapoteca - Pied a Terre. The apartment was very well stocked, even some snacks in the fridge! More importantly the space was clean, details were attended to and everything, even the very hot shower, worked perfectly and consistently. We loved the location, for us staying in the Centro was ideal. We had our 2.5 year old child with us and the access to parks, restaurants and laundry service where key to an easy carefree stay.
The Centro can be noisy (1 to 2 nights a week) as much as anywhere else in a medium sized Mexican city downtown. The advantages easily outweighed the disadvantages. Donna and Carlos were available when we needed them and hands off the rest of the time. Teresa came and cleaned our space once a week, it was pure luxury. It was our home away from home.
Staying with Donna in Oaxaca was the perfect experience. We came in quite late and she was there to greet us with the fabulous Oaxacan cheese and tortillas. She is friendly but not too in your face, so you can use the place like an apartment or use it like a room if you want. The position was perfect, walking distance to everything. We fell in love with the town while we were there and I would also recommend going on a day trip with Carlos. Absolutely recommended. Thanks Donna!
I can't imagine a better place to stay in Oaxaca. The location is terrific, the apartment was nicer in person than it looked in the pictures, and the hosts are extremely helpful. I loved that there were jugs that we could use to refill water (so we didn't have to keep going out to buy water). When we arrived, there was Oaxacan cheese, tortillas, beer, coffee and bananas in the kitchen. The apartment also had a good Oaxaca guidebook and maps.
Our hosts, Donna and Carlos, were so very gracious to us! They stayed up late to let us in as we arrived at 11:00pm. The courtyard entry is beautifully decorated! We felt good immediately. Donna showed us upstairs to the apartment which was more spacious than we imagined! They were beverages in refrigerator, coffee and tea as well as the wonderful local cheese of Oaxaca and tortillas! Such an unexpected bonus! The apartment was cozy and comfortable, just like home. We especially loved the private patio and the shared rooftop patio with a view and hammock!
The location is fantastic! You can walk to anyplace in the center of town. This is a perfect place to stay in Oaxaca and a fantastic value.
Donna and Carlos not only called the cab for us but walked out with us to say goodbye with hugs!
This property is so convenient to amazing restaurants, bars and shopping in Oaxaca. The rooftop deck and private terrace are beautiful and serene, and I could not recommend this place more. The hosts were amazing. The dog, Gardenia, is adorable. Everything was perfect.
We arrived in Oaxaca after a comfortable 6.5 hour bus ride from Mexico City through some of the most spectacular scenery we've ever seen. After a 15 minute walk from the ADO bus terminal we arrived to a smiling, welcoming Oscar at Casa Zapoteca. He lead us upstairs to a very nice, clean, and comfortable apartment. The fridge was fully stocked with Oaxacan cheese, tortillas, beer, coffee, milk and other essentials. The place was thoughtfully decorated. The bed was comfortable. Heck, it was all comfortable. We also enjoyed cocktails in the hammock and lounges on the rooftop terrace. From there we also had a nice view of the mountains.
Casa Zapoteca is right across the street from an old botanical garden, and a view of the iglesia Santo Dominigo. We were a few steps from the Alcalá, a (mainly) pedestrian street. Be sure to explore the streets off Alcalá as there are many great shops, restaurants, and even a mezcal speakeasy on Calle de Reforma (make a reservation). Casa Zapoteca is a super location!
One word though, bring earplugs. We were happy we had ours! There is a school very near by and they play music loud early each morning to welcome the children as they arrive.
Oscar offered to take us to the country side and we took him up on it. It was a day long affair. It was around a thousand pesos (about $80.00 US), car and tour guide (Oscar himself) included. We went to Hierve el Agua, a mezcal distillery in the middle of the mountains called El Tigre (had lunch there along with mezcal tastings), a 16th century iglesia in San Jerónimo Tlacochahuaya, a beautiful rug maker in Teotitlan del Valle, and the ruins of Mitla. A great trip.
The stay was comfortable and place convenient, and the price was right. We would definitely stay at Casa Zapoteca again.
What an amazing place. The location couldn't have been better for exploring the centro of Oaxaca. We had two parades pass beneath our balcony! Carlos was extremely helpful, and acted as a tour guide for a day trip out through the Oaxaca Valley. The apartment was very clean an well stocked with cooking implements, and the bed was comfy. Clean drinking water was provided for the stay, and we were greeted with a pack of tortillas and some Oaxacan cheese, and some beers and other yoghurt drinks. The views off the balconies are fantastic. We hope to return here to stay again.

I came upon Oaxaca in the early seventies while traveling through Mexico and Central America looking at ancient ruins, pottery villages and having the adventure of a lifetime. As the years went by I continued to return to the"Land of Chapulines". It retained its magic. And so, in 1996 I gave up the life I loved in a big city and moved to Oaxaca to live a dream. I met my partner, Carlos, and together we renovated an old house in the "el centro".. Renting my own apartment in Casa Zapoteca, short term through airbnb, gives me the freedom to continue the exploration if only for a few weeks at a time.
