  • We stayed at Donna and Carlos' place for a couple of nights, and had a great time. The apartment was really charming and comfortable, and had a lovely balcony that looked right onto the cathedral. There was a rooftop terrace with a nice view of the town. Carlos brought us bread and delicious Oaxacan cheese when we checked in, and was very helpful with recommendations for what to do.
Carlos also accompanied us to Monte Alban and San Martin Tilcajete. It was wonderful traveling with him, especially since he'd grown up in the area and had so much to tell us. He took us to a delicious place for lunch, and introduced us to his woodcarving friend in Tilcajete. We highly taking a trip with him!
We will definitely go back here when we are in Oaxaca next. Gardenia, their dog, is adorable. Overall, this was a great experience.

  • Donna and Carlos are wonderful. We arrived a bit late and they patiently waited for us. When we got in, quite tired from the drive, there was food waiting for us. It was a great welcome gift and a ver considerate thing to do. The place is beautiful and SUPERBLY located. You won't find a better spot in Oaxaca!

  • My wife and I just returned from 5 nights at Donna and Carlos's pied-a-terre. The location was the best...a half block, down a quiet street, from the beginning of a pedestrian only avenue, leading to the zocolo. The upstairs terrace overlooks the gardens of one of the most beautiful churches in all of Mexico.
Donna and Carlos, an English speaking native Oaxacan, were great hosts and a wealth of information. We hired Carlos for the day to explore craft villages nearby and visit a verrry authentic market.
The apartment was quite comfortable and decorated with local color.
We highly recommend this apartment and will definitely return as soon as we can!

  • Our stay in Oaxaca could not have been more wonderful. The apartment was perfect - plenty of room for two people, a well equipped kitchenette, a private outdoor seating area and access to the larger rooftop common space. The location is ideal, just a few steps from main street and within walking distance of everything you'd want to see in the city center.

Donna and Carlos were also incredibly helpful in suggesting places to eat/drink, attractions to visit, and providing directions when we needed them. Having them on-site was an wonderful benefit that we didn't expect.

I couldn't recommend this property more highly.

  • Loved! Pictures don't do justice to it. I can't say anything but to recommend you to stay here. I am an airbnb host too and this place exceeded my expectations. Impeccable, charming, best location, helpful hosts, coffee, fruit and "Oaxaca" cheese in the fridge at our arrival... The only thing I regret about leaving this review is that the apartment may not be available for my next stay!

  • Amazing location!! Ur literally in the heart of downtown Oaxaca. The house was great.. They welcomed us with great attention and also had treats of food and drinks!

  • Perfectly located, right next to the pedestrian street that goes downtown. One block from a wonderfully intimate graphic arts museum and library. Near several parks. Donna and Carlos are excellent hosts. They provided me with all the information and directions I needed. Donna took me on a marvelous walking tour...away from the downtown tourist scene. The apartment was clean and well-stocked and supplied.

  • Donna and Carlos were so welcoming and helpful that we felt very much at home and taken care of. The apt is situated in a fantastic location and they have done a beautiful job with the craftmanship and provisions. They had lots of recommendations on restaurants, walks in the different neighborhoods of Oaxaca and were generally interested and helpful. They were so kind and we would love to come back!!

  • We spent three nights at Donna and Carlos' place and couldn't be more satisfied with the experience. First, and maybe most importantly for many, the location of the apartment is ideal, near a leafy, not too busy street corner, around which we enjoyed easy access to fantastic restaurants, shops, a supermarket, the historical centre and its impressive cathedral. With the apartment itself Donna and Carlos have really outdone themselves. It is very nicely furnished and decorated, with a stocked little kitchen, so we enjoyed picking up breakfast things at the local farmers market just up the hill, preparing it at the apartment and lounging over long sunny breakfasts out on our own private patio. We could go on, but will just say that this was my and my companion's first visit to Oaxaca, and along with their lovely apartment, it was Donna and Carlos' hospitable selves that made the visit really memorable. They were both so informative and friendly that we really got the most out of our time in this unique town. They even lent us hats for our visit to Mount Alban! Top marks!

I came upon Oaxaca in the early seventies while traveling through Mexico and Central America looking at ancient ruins, pottery villages and having the adventure of a lifetime. As the years went by I continued to return to the"Land of Chapulines". It retained its magic. And so, in 1996 I gave up the life I loved in a big city and moved to Oaxaca to live a dream. I met my partner, Carlos, and together we renovated an old house in the "el centro".. Renting my own apartment in Casa Zapoteca, short term through airbnb, gives me the freedom to continue the exploration if only for a few days at a time.
