Fantasy room - Sunflower House

House - Private room · Passatge dels Ciutadans, Barcelona, Catalonia 08005, Spain

The Space

We offer you a room with a fantasy theme in a big two story house in a small, quiet street in the heart of the old Poblenou neighborhood, during your stay in Barcelona

The room is fully furnished: double bed, desk, table, chairs, stool, shelves, fan, heater and more. The room comes with an extra set of clean bedding and towels.
Interior room with a Velux skylight that can be opened. Direct sunlight.

Perfect for one person, friends or a couple.
Keys to house and room.

The Sunflower House: a big two story house a block away from metro Poblenou, buses, night bus, Bicing, the tram, shops, supermarkets, park with basketball, ping pong tables and petanque.
The Mar Bella/Bogatell/Nova Icaría beaches are a short stroll down c/Bilbao or the tree-lined Rambla de Poblenou. You can get to the center of town with the metro in 10 minutes.

For 20 years, the house was a lamp factory called Blue Moon. The last four years it has been getting converted to a living space. The large reception/lamp exhibition space is now the living room, with big mirrored sliding doors to the kitchen. Next to that is the bathroom, which is shared.

There is a large sunny kitchen that allows visitors to prepare their own meals. You will have cupboard space of your own and share a fridge with other travelers. There is also a laundry machine with detergent included that you can use. Next to the kitchen is the Andalusian-style patio, where you can sit among the plants in the sun, have a drink, smoke, chat, BBQ, relax.

Behind the entrance is the artist studio/workshop and where I live/work with my fiancé, a carpenter, and our dogs. We are still in construction mode in that space and, though we have our own toilet and camping kitchen in there, we have no hot water and hence we will go up sometimes to do the dishes and shower there. Normally we do this when the guests are out sightseeing.
We will be on call for whatever questions or problems you may have during your stay, and we hope to show you a bit of Barcelona, our favorite city!

If you have a car, you can park it for free on a lot near by, or for a fee on the streets.

Internet is increasingly important, whether you are just traveling or also working remote. Just last month fiber optic cable got installed in the neighborhood, and we made sure this house got connected to it. We now have a 50 mega connection to ensure speedy access even if a lot of people in the house are using their computers, tablets etc. There is a house laptop in the living room that guests are welcome to use. All access codes are posted.
For trans-Atlantic travelers, we have an American-European power converter.

Welcome to the Sunflower House! :)

  • The Sunflower House was an unforgettable experience for my girlfriend and me. We urge any travelers (novice or veteran) to stay here. Nikola and Mustapha are two warm, welcoming, insightful, creative, and generous people. We spent our nights around their table talking and learning from each other. The Sunflower House is communal and comfortable, and more than just a place to stay - it's a cultural experience.

Upon our first viewing of the photos, we knew this was the place for us. Nikola's art fills the rooms with a vibrant, energetic feel. The rooms are quirky and unique, and overall welcoming - completely opposite of a sterile hotel room. The kitchen is completely open to all - my girlfriend had a blast cooking dinner with their impressive spice collection. The house is a short and beautiful walk to the beach and the underground is only a few blocks away.

When we arrived the house was filled with the scent of Mustapha's cooking. We were invited to eat from a communal plate of cous cous, lamb, and veggies which was mind-blowing. Nikola was extremely helpful with our daily tour plans. One night she walked us to a cab stand, and the next day informed us to purchase Segrada Familia tickets from a bank in order to bypass a three hour line (saved the day!). Their two dogs (Danza and Snuk) are extremely friendly and gentle, and you may just fall in love with Danza (Mishi).

Our stay at the Sunflower House was a hard act to follow for the rest of our travels. We left there with new friends and new perspectives on the world.

  • Hello, everyone!

We stayed only 1 night at Nikola's place before our departure but it was a pleasant stay. Room is spacious and basically you rent a room with the whole second floor with kitchen, shower and everything you need. Special thanks to Nikola and Mustafa for a really special design and arts that are almost everywhere around the place - creativity is all around!
Nikola is a very good host, speaks English perfectly, showed us everything around and was very helpful.
In the evening we decided to go to the local Rambla instead of La Rambla and got the jackpot, we found a place with nice people and cool drinks nearby and had a good time.
Finally, it was a good stay, thanks for everything :)

  • We enjoyed our stay in Nikolas house. We could use everything in the kitchen, in the living room and in the bathroom, what we needed. Nikola gave us useful nformation and maps to find everything we were interested to see in Barcelona. The house is very good situated. We did afrom there a long footwalk to Sagrada familia and to Casa Battló. And Nikola gave us a great welcome with a really delicious indian soup ( we suppose ist was indian)!!!

  • Nikola, Mustafa, Nika(also a very hearty "globetrotter") and Danza aaaand.. ah I forgot the name of the other dog .. were great!!! They were pleasant, helpful, openminded and relaxed :)
The second night we had all dinner and enjoyed Nikolas chickensoup!
Wuhu! The stay at their house also made our BCN-Trip special :)

If we visit BCN again, the sunflower house would be our first address!

PS:The rooms and every other shared room were clean. - Nothing to complain about.

  • I had a lovely time with Nikola and Mustafa in there beautiful home, the room was exactly what I expected, love the art work Nikola has created not just in the room but entire house. The location is perfect in peaceful old district, a short walking distance from beach and metro that takes you along the cost right in to center of city.

I found Nikola to be great host, very insightful and always happy to help in anyway, amazing toure guide I had great time, and was introduced to here friends.

If ever anyone is visiting Barcelona I recommend you stay with Nikola and Mustafa, they are lovely hosts.

  • Nikola (and Mustafa) are wonderful people! The rooms are obviously unique and the care and kindness shown by the hosts were equally amazing. We couldn't have felt more comfortable in their (frankly amazing) apartment, and wished we had booked more days before they got booked up! But it makes sense that their space would be in demand, as it is located in an amazing location, has a quirky charm that is a rare and super find. I consider myself lucky to have discovered the listing and would book with them again in a heartbeat! Everything was exactly as described, and they were so helpful, courteous and kind... infectiously so! Everyone in the space seemed to warm to it immediately. Cannot recommend enough.

I am an artist of Dutch origin. I have lived in Paris, Geneva, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Oakland. I have been in Barcelona for 12 years now: this is a beautiful and inspiring city to live in... and visit! I make paintings, drawings, sculptures, lamps, piñatas and more in the studio on the ground floor. Unfortunately I will away the next few months on a job in France, so my friend Vincent and his dog Humphrey will be here to welcome you to the Sunflower House and help you to discover Barcelona.
