This fully renovated cottage has all french doored glass sun/game room, granite and glass block showers, and a huge kitchen-living space with a slate island and gourmet kitchen.
Stainless steel fixtures and appliances, espresso, coffee, microwave, dishwasher, and oven and stove
The gorgeous open tile kitchen and living room overlook the glass game room in an open living space which promotes family fun. 8 ceiling fans compliment the open space and cool air-conditioning, but allow the open air if you like.
The cottage is situated in the heart of Oak Island two blocks from the beach and two blocks from the intracoastal waterway (three blocks from the boat ramp). The city park is one block away with lighted tennis courts, soccer fields, a basketball court, a skateboard park and a children's playground.
Oak Island is a very quiet family beach which has not seen any “strand development.” You are 40 minutes from historic Wilmington with fine restaurants and quaint antique shops, and 40 minutes from glitzy Myrtle Beach with nightclubs and entertainment theme parks, but nestled in the heart of National sea turtle preserves with the historic fort and lighthouse. Oak Island is a sea turtle refuge where you can watch the babies crawl from their nests each fall after hatching to begin their century trek across the ocean.
While Oak Island was formerly named Long Beach, because of its long beautiful beaches, it is now known as Oak Island because of the twisted live Oak Trees which surround our cottage and the island.
Our home is fully furnished with a huge stock of family board games, boogie boards, beach toys, nets for chasing crabs at night, and some fishing equipment. Bring your own golf clubs (the Island course is just a mile away) or tennis racquets (one block away).
The kitchen stays partially stocked with non-perishables, gourmet equipment, Brivelli espresso machine, stainless steel commercial sink (along with full sink on the island, and double refrigerator/freezer). There is an over/under washer dryer convenient located next to the bedrooms, and a large charcoal grill on the deck for grilling steaks on the barbie.
Each of the three bedrooms have queen beds, and the living room has a trundle twin set of daybeds. There is an inflatable double bed in one of the storage trunks, and the house has easily slept more than ten in the past. There are 11 custom built copper topped trunks which conveniently store linens, down comforters, beach towels, beach toys, extra paper products, sports equipment, and backup supplies. The trunks can be rolled together to make multiple extra beds.
This is not a rental house; it is our second home. I include this to emphasize that I only have it listed here on Air B&B to exchange for a home where we would like to stay overseas. It is not a rental unit. We own a 3 bedroom beach front house (which is a rental unit) 11 blocks away, which can be rented to double up for larger groups (we host our family reunion of 20 people in both houses each year). While the second house is beach frontage, it is a rental unit and very basic compared to this custom remodeled cottage.
Email and I will send you the Oak Island cottage guide I have developed for our guests with more information about our cottage and many activities and attractions in the area. We live 3 hours away and unfortunately will not be able to assist you in transportation. Raleigh International Airport (RDU) is 3 hours away, and you can get a commuter flight to Wilmington, but by the time you transfer, the drive from Raleigh is easier. Let me know if you have any questions, we are looking to exchange our home for a quaint home overseas, or otherwise exotic location.
The full house is accessible for our guests
Interaction with Guests
There will only be phone and internet interaction as we live hours away.
No Smoking, and treat it as you are a guest. Make yourself at home, and enjoy, but please take care of our home.
Clarke was very responsive and informative throughout the process. I found the listing to be very accurate. Nice house, a few blocks from a nice beach. I would stay again!
My wife and I joined my brother and his girlfriend on a trip for Memorial Day. The house was very quaint and open. It was only a couple blocks from the beach (which weren't crowded at all). He had all the particulars you would need including supplies for the beach. We even drove an hour to Myrtle Beach one of the days. With the exception of lack of wi-fi and cable (which we didn't need that often because we were out most of the time), this home had everything we were looking for. Clarke was also very detailed with instructions for the house and information on the island.
Happily married to the most wonderful woman on earth, enjoying the empty nest (but miss the kids), enjoying being able to leave my law firm in competent hands while I travel the world.
