It was a pleasure having Jennifer and her wife as guests, and I hope they return. I would like to clarify a couple of points that Jennifer made in her review.
Basement: The suite is, indeed, in our completely finished and decorated basement that is filled with art and artifacts from around the world. There are three windows that open to the outside and allow in fresh air and a good deal of light. A dehumidifier helps keep the space comfortable. The space is extremely well illuminated with three individually controllable lighting zones. There are also three table or floor lamps. So, while there is no bank of windows overlooking the Caribbean, the space is as bright or as dimly lit as guests desire. Perhaps Jennifer's perspective was influenced by her late-afternoon arrival not long before sunset.
Shared space: Jennifer's note that the space is shared with Jasna's parents is incorrect. The space is entirely private and separated by an entire floor from the living area where I and my spouse live. There is a common area on the ground floor, although I never encountered Jennifer or her wife in that space during their stay. Added in October 2017, a new bath now offers guests a complete bath and shower as part of the suite.
Private entrance: I believe that Jennifer means there is no separate, outside entrance to the basement suite. I have stayed in many Airbnb hosts' properties, and this has never been the case. Again, after greeting Jennifer and her wife and ensuring they were comfortable, including providing a carafe of fresh ice water and the iron that Jennifer requested, I didn't encounter either guest during their one-night stay. I'm puzzled, therefore, why Jennifer is concerned about the absence of a separate, private entrance.
Door lock: The guests' space is their exclusively private area during their stay. It never occurred to us that our valued guests may suspect us of violating their privacy.
Me: I am puzzled about Jennifer's being unclear about the identity of "the man we met when we arrived." I corresponded extensively and amiably via e-mail with Jennifer before her arrival and made clear my identity and that she could expect me to greet her and ensure her comfort on arrival. The tone of her review comment suggests that she was met by a stranger whose identity was mysterious. That isn't accurate.
We have been privileged to host many Airbnb guests. Jennifer's is the first review that suggested anything less than complete satisfaction, and we are puzzled by the features of the space that concerned her. Our priority is our guests' comfort and security, and that will continue to be the case in the future.
