Katherine is a great hosts. Her house is beautiful and well designed. She is very warm and friendly and the location of her house is perfect. Highly recommended.
I spent 5 nights in the Garden Room at Katherine and David's place, and would highly recommend this quiet haven in Santa Monica. The room was clean and tidy, nicely decorated and had lovely views across the garden. The breakfast was a brilliant extra with a selection of bagels, fruit, yoghurt, tea, coffee, juice every morning. Katherine was a wonderful host; offering lots of advice about what to see and do in LA, giving great local food recommendations, and giving me a bed when I was in a spot of trouble. I really appreciated the tea and biscuits on arrival too! I look forward to coming back to see you again.
I really enjoyed my stay, the house is lovely and the garden is a little retreat from LA. I was made to feel very welcome, Katherine was helpful and friendly. Everything was clean and well set up, and having access to the kitchen and breakfast things was great. The room is private and the view onto the garden is great. I couldn't recommend the Garden Room more highly.
Great place, lovely garden and perfect hosts! Parking available and lots of great stuff nearby.
Lovely stay, with one major "but."
Katherine, the proprietor, was traveling, so a charming British couple and I had this comfortable, wonderfully situated house to ourselves. David greeted us, set us up and left us to our own devices.
The house has 2 kitchens, one for guest use, one for family use. The fridge in the guest kitchen was well-stocked with every sort of breakfast food. The house was an excellent base for walking all over Santa Monica, or for hitting the sights of LA with a car. It's a 1920's bungalow with gorgeous wood floors and knockout period light fixtures.
My room, with its small private bathroom and view of the garden, was off the family kitchen, and that contained the one MAJOR problem I had with this house: a retro gas stove which leaked gas. It was not so noticeable with the windows open, but at night you really want to close them. I thought a pilot light had gone out, but David told me it was just because the stove was old. I don't care how attached they may be to this relic: I think it unsuitable to subject guests to a universally recognized toxin. This stove should be fixed or removed.
Also, I heard critters scampering about in the attic, particularly one evening around 6. There was no trace of them in the house, however, so it didn't bother me. They didn't disturb my sleep -- or maybe the gas knocked me out.
I stayed in the wonderful Garden Room for four nights. I found the room immaculately clean, a lovely quiet space with a nice big wardrobe and with its own ensuite. The room looked out over a beautiful landscaped garden. The bed was very comfortable and I slept well.
This BnB is less than 30 minutes from LA International Airport. A local bus service 5 minutes walk from the house is on a main bus route and offers a regular, cheap and easy to use service within LA, perfect for the overseas traveller without a car.
The shared 'common room' offers guests the opportunity to chat with one another and with the hosts. There are several rooms, so their space works for the single traveller such as myself, or for couples or for families.
I found Katherine and David warm, friendly and welcoming in a kind and unassuming way. They were generous hosts with a great understanding of travellers' needs and were committed to helping me get the best out of their city. Katherines advice to me on galleries, restaurants, supermarkets, navigating Black Friday, and planning around the weather was insightful and very useful. I also enjoyed learning more about their California way of life, which you would not experience in a hotel.
I throroughly enjoyed my stay with them and HIGHLY RECOMMEND them as hosts for others. They also offer EXCELLENT value for money.
Katherine's "Garden Room" was perfect for our 4-night visit to Santa Monica--we were visiting a niece who lives not far away--and for exploring some of the Los Angeles area. The room was comfortable and quiet, looking out on a generous backyard garden, and Katherine provided excellent choices for breakfast in the "common room" and kitchen. We had rented a car, and were always able to use the house driveway to park. If another guest were to be using that space, on-street parking was plentiful. Katherine was a gracious hostess, a great communicator, very willing to provide helpful advice about local attractions (and a place to have lunch in the neighborhood), and was clearly knowledgeable about art (one of our passions) and an enthusiastic traveller herself. We felt right at home!
The house is a lovely, airy and calm space to stay in. The rear garden has a tropical oasis feel to it. The breakfasts provided were great - loads of fresh fruit/berries, yoghurt, bagels and muesli (I ate too much at least one of the days!).
Katherine is a warm and welcoming person, and treated me and my family like old friends, going out of her way to make our stay even more comfortable. I can highly recommend Santa Monica Arts to people that want a relaxed and homey experience.
Truly enjoyed staying at this cozy and friendly BnB. Katherine is a wonderful host. She is knowledgeable about the area and provided helpful driving directions/tips to ensure I navigated through LA traffic with ease. The garden room was quiet and comfortable. Having it's own bathroom was wonderful. Everything was clean and pleasant, including the common space and breakfast area. Felt like home. The backyard is a beautiful, relaxing oasis, which was so nice to wake up to seeing each morning. I would definitely come back to this great space!
I couldn't have asked for more friendly and accommodating hosts for my first visit to Santa Monica, & my first experience with Airbnb. Katherine & David graciously welcomed me to their B&B, made wonderful suggestions of places to eat and events happening locally, & explained the ease of bus travel.
The Garden Room was a lovely, cozy place to land and call home while I acquainted myself with the city. I enjoyed walking throughout their neighborhood and down Montana Avenue. The back yard and garden was a beautiful, quiet place to relax in between jaunts out and about.
My room, and the common spaces in the house were very clean, and seemed brighter than they appear on the Airbnb website. I especially enjoyed lingering over breakfast and Katherine's fresh fruit salads each morning. And tea in the garden!
I would definitely return. Thank you Katherine and David!
