With my limited experience of airbnb and comparing that to a hotel stay I would choose b&b always. My arrival, stay, and the entire experience at Katherine's bomb has been most amazingly heartwarming and easeful. She's an amazing hostess always going out if her way and being kind to offer help well beyond all expectations. I stayed here for 15 days and have felt most wellcomed, cared for, attended to and supported. Being new in this part of the world caused several road blocks like not getting a taxi on time, being unable to buy a train ticket or needing first aid in an emergency. Katherine was always there supporting at each instance. She drove to drop me for a meeting, bought my train ticket, dropped me to the train station and what have you..
the amenities, cafés and the transport is also within walking distance from this bnb.I have had an extremely enjoyable time dining and wining with Katherine, and meeting some very interesting women at her B&b.
The place is kept spotlessly clean, linen was changed, my room was cleaned and every need was taken care of even before I mentioned my need ! Katherine's kind generosity and hospitality will always remain as a very special memory in my heart. She and her amazing daughter have certainly earned themselves an Indian host but I doubt if I can meet their statdards :( they are faultless hosts and I admire that. Thank you David, Katherine and your lovely daughter who I missed meeting but trust to meet for sure one day..may be in India ! thank you. This was value for money for sure ..
I spent 5 nights in the Garden Room at Katherine and David's place, and would highly recommend this quiet haven in Santa Monica. The room was clean and tidy, nicely decorated and had lovely views across the garden. The breakfast was a brilliant extra with a selection of bagels, fruit, yoghurt, tea, coffee, juice every morning. Katherine was a wonderful host; offering lots of advice about what to see and do in LA, giving great local food recommendations, and giving me a bed when I was in a spot of trouble. I really appreciated the tea and biscuits on arrival too! I look forward to coming back to see you again.
I really enjoyed my stay, the house is lovely and the garden is a little retreat from LA. I was made to feel very welcome, Katherine was helpful and friendly. Everything was clean and well set up, and having access to the kitchen and breakfast things was great. The room is private and the view onto the garden is great. I couldn't recommend the Garden Room more highly.
Great place, lovely garden and perfect hosts! Parking available and lots of great stuff nearby.
Lovely stay, with one major "but."
Katherine, the proprietor, was traveling, so a charming British couple and I had this comfortable, wonderfully situated house to ourselves. David greeted us, set us up and left us to our own devices.
The house has 2 kitchens, one for guest use, one for family use. The fridge in the guest kitchen was well-stocked with every sort of breakfast food. The house was an excellent base for walking all over Santa Monica, or for hitting the sights of LA with a car. It's a 1920's bungalow with gorgeous wood floors and knockout period light fixtures.
My room, with its small private bathroom and view of the garden, was off the family kitchen, and that contained the one MAJOR problem I had with this house: a retro gas stove which leaked gas. It was not so noticeable with the windows open, but at night you really want to close them. I thought a pilot light had gone out, but David told me it was just because the stove was old. I don't care how attached they may be to this relic: I think it unsuitable to subject guests to a universally recognized toxin. This stove should be fixed or removed.
Also, I heard critters scampering about in the attic, particularly one evening around 6. There was no trace of them in the house, however, so it didn't bother me. They didn't disturb my sleep -- or maybe the gas knocked me out.
