Leo is a kind and generous host, and will tell you as much as you want to know about the area, Costa Rica, his home, how to get around and the best places to go.
The cabin is back off the main road, a haven for solitude, and is indeed surrounded by green, Leo's fruit trees, distant volcanos, and their dogs (who stay in their own yard). Get up in the morning and make yourself a cup of fresh coffee or tea and watch the variety of birds flit around.
It is about a 20-25 minute walk into San Pedro de Poas along a country road which in part overlooks the valley, passing along farms, coffee plantations and other homes. The windy roller coaster roads in the area would make fun cycling routes - I wish I had my bike!
The cabin was just how it looked in the pictures. It's a free standing, self-contained cabin, with its own bathroom. Up in the hills, away from the hustle and bustle, you can explore the surrounding, quaint towns. Leo was very helpful and welcoming!
The cabin is nice and clean, located in a wonderful area of coffee plantations and close to Volcano Poas. Friendly and helpful communication with the owner.
Fair price and next to an amazing sea food restaurant. The bed was very comfortable. The room is spacious. The host had good suggestions for food and brought us coffee in the morning. For breakfast, go into the town of San Pedro de Poas. It's on the way to Poas National Park. They have an excellent diner for breakfast. Can't remember the name of it, but it's about 3-4 blocks from the school on the same road as the school, past the square in the middle of town. Try the flan. There were a few minor and fixable issues (bugs, no chairs outside to enjoy his beautiful yard, noisy ceiling fan, and awkward bathroom mirror). Over all, the price is fair.
Our communication was good and we received help with taxi to the volcano and morning coffee. Internet was good.
I would be cautious about calling this basic cabin and its software brand new and the place close to the volcano, my fault of not looking into map carefully. But I enjoyed sunshine in the garden and a chat with the kind host Leo. And maybe you have something to do in the village of San Pedro...
