Our Victorian flat is on two floors and is located in the lovely Bruntsfield area of the city, one of Edinburgh's most central neighbourhoods. We live in a quiet cul-de-sac but are only a couple of minutes from the bustling shops and cafes of Bruntsfield.
Although our home is Victorian with high ceilings and classic cornicing, we have furnished it in a contemporary style. The comfortable double bedroom is large and newly decorated, the window has the original shutters and overlooks the walled and rather mature(!) back garden.
You have exclusive private use of the shower room with WC which is right next to your room. A help yourself breakfast (cereal, toast, juice etc) is also included. Help yourself to tea and coffee at any time. Also included is all your fresh bed linen, towels, hairdryer, umbrellas (!) plus free Wifi.
We are perfectly located for sightseeing or for visiting Edinburgh's fabulous and world renowned International Festival in August every year.
At the top of the road there are five buses that will take you into the heart of the city in a matter of minutes. Attractions include the Castle, Holyrood Palace, Princes Street, Royal Mile, Museums, wonderful art galleries, the Botanical Gardens and the Royal Yacht Britannia. Great restaurants plus much much more! We usually walk into town, by strolling across the Meadows - about 20 mins.
We are also only 5 minutes walk to Napier University Merchiston Campus.
Bruntsfield itself is full of coffee shops, bars, restaurants & quirky independent shops. We are within easy walking distance of five theatres and five cinemas not to mention Festival venues! We have lived here for over 20 years and have a good knowledge of the city so we are happy to help you with recommendations and directions.
We have a large British Blue cat called Sillie, you can see her in the photographs. She is friendly but quite shy so she wont bother you. We also have three sons who you may see if they are back home in Edinburgh.
Parking here is very difficult, so we wouldn't recommend bringing a car. There is free parking in our area between 5.30pm and 08.30 am Monday to Friday and free parking at weekends. The rest of the time, you have to pay the meter (max stay of 4 hours). Alternatively you can park outside the zone. However, you really dont need a car as you can walk or take a bus everywhere!
We think our home is perfectly situated for a holiday in Edinburgh, whether sight-seeing or Festival-going!
We both work during the day so we may not always be around, but we will always be contactable by phone or email.
Check in and check out times can be flexible depending on our work commitments - just ask!
If you have any questions please just ask, we're happy to help.
We had a perfect stay at Cary and Pete's lovely place. Their description and photos are very accurate, so I'll just add that it is a really warm and quiet place, Cary and Pete are very friendly and helpful, and we found the location fantastic - although it's not right in the middle of the center, it is a nice and short walk away from the royal mile (and a short bus ride away from Princess street) and the local neighborhood is beautiful as well. Our only regret is that the stay was too short!
If you want to stay at the heart of Edinburgh and still have a quiet room, warm welcoming/friendly host, this is THE place ! Nice residential neighborhood and shops around the corner, 10 minutes by bus to the central area, well what else can you ask for more ? (don't want to sound like an advertisement, but it's true !) Carry and Pete are great hosts and the room is reasonable, sunny with a private bath.
If I ever go back to Edinburgh – which I will because I really liked it I definitely would like to stay with Cary and Pete again! (Edinburgh reminded me of my home town Nürnberg in Germany)
Her house is lovely the room is big, the bed is very comfortable, and through the big windows you have a lot of light in the room, it´s lovely decorated as well. Cary also has a lot of info material for Edinburgh flyers and books which is nice to get some extra inspiration. The own bathroom right next door was very clean and had everything you need from nice smelling towels to shampoo and shower gel.
Cary is so friendly, warm and welcoming that we felt like home as soon as we walked in the door.
The breakfast included everything we needed and more as it had variety of toast, jam´s, Nutella, a selection of tea and coffee, yogurt and fresh fruits.
Walking to the castle is a very pretty 20 minute walk partly through a park, it´s very central. So if you go to Edinburgh you have to stay with Cary!
Cary helped us a lot for planning our trip. She is very kind and friendly host!
The house was so lovely and really comfortable. We feel like home!
The location of house is also really nice and convenient for central Edinburgh.
(It was easy walking distance to Royal mile through beautiful parks.!)
I would definitely come back there next time if we go to Edinburgh.
I'm sure that Cary's room is one of the best room in Edinburgh.
Thank you so much!!
I stayed only for one night with my friend, but it was great! Cary is a lovely host, the communication before our travel was nice and it was a very warm welcome. They have a great home, everything is tidy and nicely done up.
The room is lovely, it is very calm and we would definitely slept longer if our train wasn't going that early in the morning! Also the breakfast in the morning was very good and all in all our stay there felt a little bit like beeing at home.
I would highly recommend to everyone to stay in Carys house while visiting Edinburgh, you can't get wrong!
We really enjoyed our stay at Cary's beautiful home in the centre of Edinburgh. The room was lovely and we received a warm welcome from Cary who was also very helpful with helping us find a free parking spot nearby. I would definitely recommend this place (and the breakfast!) and hopefully get the chance to come back one day
Very nice house and room Cary and Pete are wonderful: they really helped us to get the most out of our visit through their tips. The house and room are very nice and located at a nice walk from Edinburgh center.
They inspired us to start our own AirBnB!
We had a very great time at Cary's and Pete's home. A very warm welcome and friendly approach. They have also given us useful tips as to where going and having supper. Their place is walk distance from the historical centre of the city and from the commercial area. A nice park also is close to the house, where many people go running (we didn't though!). Definitely, a very nice stay in Edinburgh at theirs.
Beautiful, private and impeccably clean, this room was perfect for my weekend stay in Edinburgh.
Cary is a wonderful host, lovely to talk to, and gave great suggestions for my walks around the city.
I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking to for a private room in someone's home with maximum independence.
