Guido is a great host! Very friendly and makes you feel at home so a good place if youre new to buenos aires too, also speaks very good english. The flat is clean and has everything you need, plus a great and very large terrace to relax on and enjoy the view. Its also in the perfect location so youre never more than a ten minute walk from the parks, shops and some of palermos best bars/restaurants. I stayed 2 weeks and would have stayed longer, but i was having such a good time i forgot to extend my stay and another lucky person had booked it before i could. Fantastic value, im sure ill be back. Thanks Guido
Guido es muy buen anfitrion, y la casa está muy bien y en un lugar inmejorable.
In my weeks of traveling in Argentina and Chile, I had absolutely the worst lodging experience with this listing. I partially blame my own naiveté because there were plenty of warning signs in retrospect. Prior to this, I had only one experience with AirBNB (in Barcelona), and it was incredibly positive.
To start, the listing person Guido rarely responded to any of my email or text message inquiries in the weeks leading to my arrival. When he bothered to respond, it was many days later and vague. The photos on the listing are blurry and do not accurately represent the living space (more on this later). More important, he did not verify his identity. A few days before my arrival, Guido informed me that he will be on vacation during my stay, and her sister Daniella will let me in. This in itself was not a problem as Daniella turned out to be more responsive than Guido but not in a friendly way.
I met Daniella at the apartment around 20:00. After handing me the key, she promptly left before I even had the time to inspect my room. I soon discovered several issues right away: (1) the curtain in my room cannot be pulled down and there is no privacy as the building is adjacent to a number of other high-rises; (2) there is no A/C and I had to leave the window open since it is the height of summer; (3) as a result, I got so many mosquito bites since the whole place is filthy; (4) there is no light bulb in my room and the switch for the light fixture is broken; I had to resort to using a torch; in fact, there is only one light bulb in the living room and none in the kitchen; (4) the bathroom is so filthy that it appears to have not been cleaned for weeks; (5) the bed is so uncomfortable and sheets appears having never been changed; I had to use a sleeping bag liner; (6) the door to my room is broken and has no lock.
I don't have a high standard for lodging, especially in Buenos Aires, and I can probably overlook a number of these problems. However, these are just the initial impression. I also quickly learned that the other two people living in the apartment are college frat boy-type who are about as friendly as the owner whom I never met or the owner's sister who gave me the key. One of the other roommate brought back a girl around 22:00 and the two of them proceeded to make out on the balcony before retreating to their room. At around midnight, someone nearby (or some club) started playing extremely deafening dance music that lasted at least until 4:30am. As a result of the combination of noise, heat, mosquito bites and filthy and uncomfortable bed, I did not get a single minute of sleep. At around 5am, I went online and found a boutique hotel nearby and left Guido's place half hour later even though I had already paid for a second night. (The boutique hotel, by the way, did not cost that much more, and was a world apart in comfort and friendliness.) The right thing for Guido to do is to refund my second night, which I did not stay. I emailed him, but haven't heard back and will not hold my breath.
For $35 per night, no one is expecting starred treatment or amenities. However, there should still be some minimal standard such as cleanliness, hospitality and honesty. None could be said about this listing. In my ~15 years of travel, this is by far the worst place I have ever stayed.
