Interaction with Guests
We see our guests less frequently now that we made the space separate from the rest of the house, (Sometimes they come and go without us ever crossing paths). We miss chatting with interesting people and making new friends as often as we did before but, overall, people seem to be happy with the trade-off of less socializing but more privacy. Our typical guests seem to be in town for an event or with a busy schedule and appreciate being able to come and go without having to explain themselves.
We do still get frequent requests for info on restaurants, hiking trails, etc and we're happy to provide that.
This is not a large property, but it is in a quiet neighborhood that backs up to a large ranch. There are only two streets that lead up the hill to our neighborhood and the few streets up here are dead-end or cul-de-sac. Very little traffic as generally no one comes up here except those who live here.
Amtak Pacific Surfliner stops in Ventura at the Ventura Co.Fairgrounds and buses run regularly up Hwy 33 from Ventura to Ojai. There is a bus-stop on the 2 lane hwy at the base of the drive that leads up the hill to our neighborhood. The Ojai/Ventura bike trail goes right by the base of our neighborhood.
The "house rules" are the usual common-sense considerations: no loud noises/music please; the space is closed-off from, but still connected to, the rest of the house so we'll do our best to use our "inside voices" and ask that you do the same. No smoking inside, of course. Be reasonably neat/clean, observe the check-out time (unless previously arranged), etc.
I felt very welcome and fully at ease while staying with Ken and Candace. The room and its attached private bathroom were very cozy, with lots of thoughtful touches for a guest like coffee and snacks. The room and the neighborhood are very quiet and peaceful, which allowed for a wonderfully resting stay. Definitely a beautiful place to come and re-generate.
We loved our stay here, the bedroom and bathroom were great, very clean, very pretty and very private. Our hosts communicated with us throughout our stay and answered any questions we had. The neighborhood is beautiful, great for a nice long walk. Great experience!
This was my first experience with Airbnb. Ken and Candace made my stay very welcoming. The room was warm, comfortable and serene. The bed was very comfortable. I felt more than at home. I loved the spacious room with lots of light and all the little extras they provided. I would definitely stay there again on a future visit. Thank you for making it so special.
Even though Ken and Candace were not home, their son showed us where the key was kept. The room and bath were perfect - plenty of room and a skylight over the tub for extra light was lovely. The house is located in a very nice neighborhood and I had a wonderful walk the next morning while my significant other caught up on his sleep. I was able to ask someone in the neighborhood to recommend a place for breakfast. Small refrigerator and microwave - convenient for us. I did meet Ken and Candace on Sunday and they are a lovely couple. I would recommend this room to anyone who wants to stay In a very nice neighborhood and is convenient to Ojai and surrounding areas.
My stay at Ken and Candace's place was lovely. Ken greeted me when I arrived and helped me get settled. The room was lovely and very cosy in feel, while still being spacious and light. I slept well (comfy bed) and felt like I could really settle in. Thank you for providing a wonderful sanctury for my weekend retreat in Ojai!
The place is very comfortable and feels like you are staying with a family relative. I loved the private entrance to the room and really appreciated the amenities of the room. From bottled water, to coffee machine, some fresh fruit, small fridge and even some small chocolates, the hosts Ken and Candace made the room feel very inviting.
The room and private bathroom are still liked to the house but made private through a locked hallway door. You can occasionally here the hosts voice and their television which is to be expected from the layout of the home. I also am not sure if they have a wifi provided for guests.
I didn't get to meet the hosts in person but would have liked to because of how friendly and accommodating they were to my arrival and arrangements.
A great experience overall.
This was our first experience with airbnb and it was perfect. The accommodations were just as described. The room was clean and had everything we needed. The neighborhood was nice and quiet. Unfortunately we did not meet Ken and Candace as it was Easter weekend and they were away but kept in touch by email to welcome us and to feel free to contact them if we needed anything. We would highly recommend this place to friends and would stay again ourselves. Thank you!
About the Host, Ken And Candace
We were first attracted to Ojai when we started having children and were looking for a great place to live, with a small town feel. We love the outdoors and people with a sense of community, thus Ojai's been perfect for us for the last 36 years! We've been involved in education, music, theater, church , environmental concerns, and fun-raising for community betterment projects.
