Interaction with Guests
We see our guests less frequently now that we made the space separate from the rest of the house, (Sometimes they come and go without us ever crossing paths). We miss chatting with interesting people and making new friends as often as we did before but, overall, people seem to be happy with the trade-off of less socializing but more privacy. Our typical guests seem to be in town for an event or with a busy schedule and appreciate being able to come and go without having to explain themselves.
We do still get frequent requests for info on restaurants, hiking trails, etc and we're happy to provide that.
This is not a large property, but it is in a quiet neighborhood that backs up to a large ranch. There are only two streets that lead up the hill to our neighborhood and the few streets up here are dead-end or cul-de-sac. Very little traffic as generally no one comes up here except those who live here.
Amtak Pacific Surfliner stops in Ventura at the Ventura Co.Fairgrounds and buses run regularly up Hwy 33 from Ventura to Ojai. There is a bus-stop on the 2 lane hwy at the base of the drive that leads up the hill to our neighborhood. The Ojai/Ventura bike trail goes right by the base of our neighborhood.
The "house rules" are the usual common-sense considerations: no loud noises/music please; the space is closed-off from, but still connected to, the rest of the house so we'll do our best to use our "inside voices" and ask that you do the same. No smoking inside, of course. Be reasonably neat/clean, observe the check-out time (unless previously arranged), etc.
This was our first experience with airbnb and it was perfect. The accommodations were just as described. The room was clean and had everything we needed. The neighborhood was nice and quiet. Unfortunately we did not meet Ken and Candace as it was Easter weekend and they were away but kept in touch by email to welcome us and to feel free to contact them if we needed anything. We would highly recommend this place to friends and would stay again ourselves. Thank you!
Super sweet place in Ojai. Very quiet and comfortable. The room though attached to the house has its own entrance so it felt very private.
Really comfortable bed. Had a lovely stay.
Very thankful for the coffee machine and chocolate!
We felt very welcome in this quiet and beautiful neighborhood. The room and private bath were very comfortable and nicely furnished. Convenient to downtown and Ventura. Definitely would stay again
What a wonderful experience! Ken greeted us warmly, provided some info and a key. He showed us to our lovely room and bath.
He indicated we should not hesitate to give him a call if we needed anything. Ken allowed us space to simply enjoy their beautiful setting. At the same time it was clear if we wanted to chat that would'be ok too. We will definitely book with them again and will certainly tell our friends.
This was my first time ever using airbnb and I'm glad I booked with Ken and Candace instead of getting a hotel. My boyfriend and I were visiting Ojai for the weekend and Ken was able to accommodate our needs. We weren't sure what time we were going to arrive, just that it was later at night and we had 2 cars with us. Ken was able to arrange for me to get the key easily and there was plenty of parking on the street in front of the house. The room is exactly as pictured and described. It was clean, cozy, and well cared for. They had left some fruit, granola bars, popcorn, and water for us which really made us feel welcomed. The mini fridge and microwave were a big plus for us since we wanted to save a little money by making our own small breakfast and lunch (oatmeal and sandwiches). I took full advantage of the keurig! My favorite part was the bathroom. The bamboo style walls, skylight above the shower, and fern made it feel like you were in a bungalow. I only had the chance to meet Ken who was very communicative and friendly. He was happy to speak to me for a few minutes about restaurants to try for dinner and offered to help me with my bags. The neighborhood was quiet and seems like a very friendly area. I would definitely book with Ken and Candace again the next time we're in Ojai.
Ken and Candace were great hosts and the room was comfortable and clean. Highly recommended!
Staying with Candace and Ken was wonderful. Inviting, immaculate, comfy. Quiet, lovely room in a quiet, lovely home in a quiet, lovely neighborhood.
We were first attracted to Ojai when we started having children and were looking for a great place to live, with a small town feel. We love the outdoors and people with a sense of community, thus Ojai's been perfect for us for the last 36 years! We've been involved in education, music, theater, church , environmental concerns, and fun-raising for community betterment projects.
