Interaction with Guests
We see our guests less frequently now that we made the space separate from the rest of the house, (Sometimes they come and go without us ever crossing paths). We miss chatting with interesting people and making new friends as often as we did before but, overall, people seem to be happy with the trade-off of less socializing but more privacy. Our typical guests seem to be in town for an event or with a busy schedule and appreciate being able to come and go without having to explain themselves.
We do still get frequent requests for info on restaurants, hiking trails, etc and we're happy to provide that.
This is not a large property, but it is in a quiet neighborhood that backs up to a large ranch. There are only two streets that lead up the hill to our neighborhood and the few streets up here are dead-end or cul-de-sac. Very little traffic as generally no one comes up here except those who live here.
Amtak Pacific Surfliner stops in Ventura at the Ventura Co.Fairgrounds and buses run regularly up Hwy 33 from Ventura to Ojai. There is a bus-stop on the 2 lane hwy at the base of the drive that leads up the hill to our neighborhood. The Ojai/Ventura bike trail goes right by the base of our neighborhood.
The "house rules" are the usual common-sense considerations: no loud noises/music please; the space is closed-off from, but still connected to, the rest of the house so we'll do our best to use our "inside voices" and ask that you do the same. No smoking inside, of course. Be reasonably neat/clean, observe the check-out time (unless previously arranged), etc.
Staying with Candace and Ken was wonderful. Inviting, immaculate, comfy. Quiet, lovely room in a quiet, lovely home in a quiet, lovely neighborhood.
Ken and Candace's place was perfect--quiet, convenient and comfortable. I especially appreciated the private entrance and bath. The coffee service and snacks were a great touch. Would stay again on another visit to Ojai! Thanks.
This was my first airbnb experience and I couldn't have asked for better hosts. Right from the time Ken met me at the front of the house and showed me where to park, to showing me my room, to the bottles of water and fresh fruit, the coffee machine, the lovely clean room with private bathroom, till the time I left, I was made to feel totally welcome. Fantastic hosts. I would recommend this place to anyone.
Ken and Candace's place was comfortable, quiet and beautifully appointed. The neighborhood is lovely, close enough to the center of town to make everything convenient, but removed from the main thoroughfare to ensure good nights' rest and a feeling of having gotten away from it all. As hosts, Ken & Candace responded to all communications right away and were extremely accommodating. We had a great time and highly recommend this listing.
Everything was great! The home was very cozy and in a convenient, cute neighborhood. I did not get to meet Ken and Candace in person but they were very welcoming and made sure I had all I needed!
My visit with Ken and Candace was nice. They greeted me when I arrived and made me feel right at home. The place was immaculate.
I did like that it had its own entrance.
Their home is lovely and very inviting. Their neighborhood is quiet an I took a walk the first morning I enjoyed the views of the Ojai valley.
They sent me an e-mail the first day and invited me to join them that evening, they were going to decorate their tree. I joined them and felt like I was visiting old friends.
I feel very lucky that their home was available when I needed a place. I will certinally stay theres when I visit Ojai again.
We were first attracted to Ojai when we started having children and were looking for a great place to live, with a small town feel. We love the outdoors and people with a sense of community, thus Ojai's been perfect for us for the last 36 years! We've been involved in education, music, theater, church , environmental concerns, and fun-raising for community betterment projects.
