Interaction with Guests
We see our guests less frequently now that we made the space separate from the rest of the house, (Sometimes they come and go without us ever crossing paths). We miss chatting with interesting people and making new friends as often as we did before but, overall, people seem to be happy with the trade-off of less socializing but more privacy. Our typical guests seem to be in town for an event or with a busy schedule and appreciate being able to come and go without having to explain themselves.
We do still get frequent requests for info on restaurants, hiking trails, etc and we're happy to provide that.
This is not a large property, but it is in a quiet neighborhood that backs up to a large ranch. There are only two streets that lead up the hill to our neighborhood and the few streets up here are dead-end or cul-de-sac. Very little traffic as generally no one comes up here except those who live here.
Amtak Pacific Surfliner stops in Ventura at the Ventura Co.Fairgrounds and buses run regularly up Hwy 33 from Ventura to Ojai. There is a bus-stop on the 2 lane hwy at the base of the drive that leads up the hill to our neighborhood. The Ojai/Ventura bike trail goes right by the base of our neighborhood.
The "house rules" are the usual common-sense considerations: no loud noises/music please; the space is closed-off from, but still connected to, the rest of the house so we'll do our best to use our "inside voices" and ask that you do the same. No smoking inside, of course. Be reasonably neat/clean, observe the check-out time (unless previously arranged), etc.
Really calm and quite environment! We loved the hike ken told us about and he gave very good directions to get to Ventura beaches!
ALL OF THE AMENITIES OF HOME!!!
Ken and Candace's place is just like being at home, they thought of everything. From the Wi-Fi, to the Keurig-type coffee maker with a great choice of coffees, teas, bottled water and snacks. The room is spacious with a comfortable bed. It also has a microwave and mini-fridge and the bathroom is big.
The neighborhood is extremely quiet, it was a perfect location for a quiet little weekend getaway for my wife and I who were celebrating an anniversary. The room has a private entrance and because we were arriving late, Ken setup up a lock-box location for key pickup.
Great communication from host, I would definitely stay with them again and I highly recommend their place to all.
Ken and Candace were incredibly thoughtful hosts. They were great about being in communication through the website in advance of our arrival, so we knew exactly when we would have access to the space, along with all the relevant details to make that happen as smoothly as possible.
The room was comfortable, clean, and thoughtfully arranged with all the conveniences we needed in order to make our short stay in Ojai comfortable, including a small refrigerator, microwave and a lovely selection of coffee/tea/snacks provided. The bathroom was spacious and clean with a beautiful skylight.
Our space felt cozy and private, and our hosts were considerate in every possible way. The neighborhood is beautiful and tranquil, removed from the bustle of the downtown Ojai area by a few miles. There is a great little coffee shop nearby called Full of Beans, which is walking-distance away if you don't mind walking up/down hills. :-)
Ken and Candace were great hosts. They had great recommendations for things to do in the area, their home was as described, beautiful and clean, neighborhood was really nice. They made out first Airbnb experience perfect!
Spent 2 nights in this lovely home. Well located for any activities in the Ojai area. Large well decorated sunlit room complete with microwave and refrig. Bathroom very large. Area is very quiet and easy to find off the main highway. Ken was a gracious host and we hope to stay here again if in Ojai.
My first time using Air BnB was great! I really enjoyed the process and found my hosts, Ken & Candace very easy to communicate with. Ken was helpful and replied to all correspondence very quickly. (Thank you Ken!)
The room is as described and very cozy and a nice size. I loved the linens, pillows, and the decor was tasteful. The overall feel of the room is peaceful and private. The bed is very comfortable too!
The bathroom was a GREAT size! Oh and the towels were a great quality which I appreciated.
I also noticed and loved the little extra touches from a fresh Gardenia flower on the nightstand from their yard, a "welcome guest" little towel in the bathroom... and some little chocolates.
The coffee maker, fridge, microwave and little snacks were a really nice addition as well. I enjoyed a nice cup of coffee every day, and was able to keep some things in the fridge.
I felt like I was staying with friends or a family member... at home. That is a really nice feeling to have when out of town.
I arrived late and met the Hosts who made sure I got in ok. I really enjoyed staying here, and would again in a heart beat :)
I can honestly recommend this place. It is very close to down town Ojai, easy to find, in a nice neighborhood on a hill and I hope to be able to stay again.
I felt very welcome and fully at ease while staying with Ken and Candace. The room and its attached private bathroom were very cozy, with lots of thoughtful touches for a guest like coffee and snacks. The room and the neighborhood are very quiet and peaceful, which allowed for a wonderfully resting stay. Definitely a beautiful place to come and re-generate.
About the Host, Ken And Candace
We were first attracted to Ojai when we started having children and were looking for a great place to live, with a small town feel. We love the outdoors and people with a sense of community, thus Ojai's been perfect for us for the last 36 years! We've been involved in education, music, theater, church , environmental concerns, and fun-raising for community betterment projects.
