About This Listing
Everyone loves the Avocado Tree House. The little reflection room up in the old avo tree, your own kitchen with organic breakfast fixins and a covered deck facing the sunrise. Located on the same 11 acres as the Mango House.
This cute abode is under and IN an old avocado tree! The main structure offers a hand made four post queen bed and a single bed loft. The Avocado House is perfect for a couple however the loft provides space for a child or friend (however not recommended for a toddler). The little front porch with its wooden shake roof is just right for kickin' back after a day at the coast or a hike across the crater. The upstairs is a magical little cubicle called the “Reflection Room” and is perched up in the tree. It sparkles with jewels, mirrors and stained glass. What a great place to read, meditate, star gaze and watch our magical sunrise!
The Avocado Tree house features an ocean view complete with a full multilevel bath. It has an abundance of solar power, wireless internet, hand painted floors and features a cool collection of funky art. The little kitchen is a separate structure just a few steps away. The kitchen boasts a monkey pod table shaped like the Big Island as well as a covered deck for outdoor dining. The kitchen comes stocked with all condiments and organic breakfast fixins (eggs, whole grain bread, fresh fruit, local honey, coffee and tea) so you can prepare your own breakfast at your convenience. Everyone who stays in the Avocado Tree House loves it!

We had an incredible time at the Avocado Tree House! Elvira and Hugh are amazing hosts. They had great suggestions on sights to see, and stocked the kitchen with fresh, homegrown fruit from their unbelievable gardens and grounds. This place is a GEM! We will definitely be back
We loved the place, although it was rainy... surrounded by nature sounds, this is a remote and colorful place to be enjoyed bare feet. Various patios, spaces where you just want to hang out enjoying the ocean view or reading a book. Very relaxing! Elvira and Hugh were very welcoming but not intrusive.
Elvira and Hugh were so welcoming. We felt instantly at home. They called ahead when we were on the road to see what time we were arriving and were there to greet us. The house is an enchanted place where I would be happy to stay and play all day. It was clean with beautiful art and windows. The whole place brings the outside indoors and the indoors outside. They gave us great tips on where to go in the area including Robert's market which provided us with cheap and delicious local food. Elvira also gave us fruit, bread, eggs, butter and everything we needed to cook at home. I look forward to staying here again. Thanks Elvira and Hugh!
Staying at the Avocado Tree House stands out as the highlight of our two week visit to the Big Island. Although it is only about a 10min drive from Pahoa you feel like you are in the middle of nowhere with a view of the ocean off in the distance. The “Reflection Room” was totally relaxing and was an excellent place for reading as it was filled with natural light and cool breezes. I also enjoyed the porch that sits off the kitchen as it was perfect for viewing the ocean in the morning with a cup of coffee in your hands while also watching the small lizards slowly crawl out of their hiding places as the sun starts to warm things up. Hugh and Elvira made us feel very welcome and were always available if we had any questions on where to go or what to bring. We very much appreciated the organic breakfast fixins and fresh fruit that they provided from their trees, my favourite being the “star apple” – very tasty! The location is ideal for visiting Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Hilo, Hamakua coast, and Mauna Kea as they are all less than a 2hr drive. Don’t miss the Saddle Road (Hwy 200) as it is a beautiful drive with 3-4 lanes - a welcome change from the narrow roads along the coast. The next time we visit the Big Island we plan on staying in one place – Avocado Tree House!
Magical! The treehouse was immaculate and such a comfortable, cozy and inviting space. We loved all the different areas to lounge in, and had a hard time leaving the beautiful property. It has really great energy.
Elvira and Hugh were fantastic hosts-- easy to communicate with and very warm and welcoming in person. They were super gracious, and lent us watersports gear and gave us suggestions for things to see in the area. They also gave us complete privacy, while still being accessible on the property.
The location is just remote enough to feel like pure country, while still remaining convenient to town and sights. There is wifi but our phone signal was spotty.
The kitchen was well equipped enough to cook in. Elvira and Hugh left breakfast provisions and a fantastic fruit bowl filled with fruits from the property. Elvira also brought us banana bread and a delicious smoothie on different mornings.
The bed was comfortable with soft sheets, and there were plenty of towels. Everything was immaculate and fresh.
We had been looking at a few different places in the area and are so glad we chose the Tree House. We loved staying there and hope to return again!!
The avocado tree house brilliant place to stay for many reasons. Hugh and Elvira are super chilled out and lovely - they exude mahalo and are happy to help or leave you to your own devices.
Pahoa is a great place to visit and the avocado tree house is a unique place to stay (close to the tide pools and about a 40min drive to the volcano park). I would recommend having a car and would gladly stay there again!! It was really fun to be a child again and stay in the tree house. It was very thoughtfully built and arranged. Thank you Hugh and Elvira for sharing the treehouse. Mahalo! :)
