5 very basic, clean, and comfortable double bed cabana with private patio area; breakfast is not included.
East Surf is out of the way from all the hustle and bustle; we are 10 min walk to the centre of the village, and 7 min walk to the beach.
We have 6 double bed cabanas scattered inside the gardens equipped with own bathroom, mosquito net, fan, hooks and shelves; and 2 large family rooms situated at the end of the garden on a sand dune, overlooking the palm trees, the surrounding areas and the ocean. One sleeps 3 and the other sleeps 4.
The restaurant offers fresh organic local and seasonal produce; we serve rice & curry, grilled fish, some western food, and plenty of juices and coconut water. We also provide for veggie friendly guests, using separate pots, kitchen utensils, fridge, juicer and blender.
East Surf also offers BBQ nights, surf lessons, fishing trips (wind permitting), mini safaris, therapeutic massage, machine wash laundry service, and we sell great postcards.
What makes us unique is the tranquility of the area, making it the most relaxed and noise free guest house in Arugam Bay, to ensure guests get a proper night sleep.

This is the perfect laid back location nearby the sea. Raffaella and Sudu are great host. Booked 2 nights stayed 5!!!
We had a wonderful time at EastSurfCabanas: Raffaella and Sudu are great hosts who make your stay very enjoyable. The cabana we stayed in was clean, cozy and, despite its rather small size, very comfortable. What we liked most about the place is that it is located slightly away from Arugam Bay's main street. Yet, it is only a 5 min. walk to the beach. At night, it is so quiet that you can listen to the sound of the waves. We also very much enjoyed the home-cooked meals prepared by Sudu at the restaurant.
The cabanas were simple but nice and just like on the pictures.
They are located a little outside of arugam bay, so it was quiet there but you had to walk a few minutes to get to restaurants or shops.
The people in arugam bay are kind and there are a lot of tourists. Even more than we expected actually.
The breakfast was tasty and is not included in the price. Also, you'll have to pay extra for wifi (and it's really slow). But you might rather go there for the beach of course. ;) Speaking of which: if you are a surfer, you will love the giant waves. For casual swimming it was almost too much.
It was definitely an experience to sleep in a wood cabana with a roof that's only made out of palm leafs. If you like to sleep on a soft mattress you might have some problems with the super thin ones they got there. And since the cabanas are not entirely closed you will have some visitor by night, like and squirrels. Once a huge frog almost literally scared the crap out of me, sitting right inside the toilet bowl. :D But that's likely all part of the adventure.
They also organized a safari tour for us, which was great and we even saw a wild elephant.
After 11 nights at Sudu´s and Raffaella´s place we went home super happy and relaxed. This place is different from others in Arugam Bay- quiet (except exotic bird noises in the morning), lovely decorated, safe and really clean. In a familiar atmosphere, the couple always finds some time for a little chat.
We had a wonderful time at East surf cabana's. The first days we stayed in a cabana, which was really clean and comfy. The last few days we stayed in the openair familyroom. Very romantic and suitable for our honeymoon. Absolutely loved it! Raffaella and Sudu are very friendly and helpful. Always there when you need them. We also recommend the bbq in Panama they organize. We saw 2 wild elephants on the way to panama and they took us to a very nice beach before dinner to see the sunset. The bbq was really good! Really enjoyed the food! Thanks again Raffaella and Sudu for a wonderful stay!
We backpacked through SL and wanted to stay for a few nights in arugam bay. Raffaella and Sudu were great hosts and the cabanas were cosy and clean. The food is delicious and they can organize surf lessons, safaris and a lot more if you ask. If we come back to SL we would definitely go again for east surf cabanas.
Raffaella and Sudu were lovely hosts. They organised our surfing lessons, cooked for us yummy and healthy meals, recommended restaurants. The room was clean, with good mosquito net and close to the beach. I wish we could've stayed longer.

East Surf is owned by Sudu, Arugam Bay born and bred; he is an expert fisherman, and LOVES the jungle. His perfect night out is in the wild, listening to the sounds of nature and watching wildlife. Back at the guest house, he will make you the perfect fish curry or BBQ fish. Sudu's wife, Raffaella, manages the guesthouse and is half italian-half dutch, with a british upbringing. Passionate about photography and art in general. Raffaella is a strict vegetarian and has organised separate veggie tools, pots and fridge for veggie friendly guests. She is also into meditation and gives an awesome relaxing massages. Giada is the new member of the management team. Born in August 2014, her hobbies are sleeping and making goo goo gaga sounds.
They live in Arugam Bay all year round.
