Bed & Breakfast 3 Zone Colonial

Apartment - Private room · Calle Palo Hincado, Santo Domingo, Santo Domingo Province, Dominican Republic

The Space

This spacious and airy room is in the heart of the most exciting area in Santo Domingo: The Colonial Zone. We are a TRUE bed and breakfast in every sense of the word. Each morning we serve a fresh, hot authentic DOMINICAN BREAKFAST with an assortment of fresh squeezed juices, native tea and our country’s finest…café con leche! There is always a 24 hour station equipped with tea, coffee, juice and fresh snacks.
The room is situated with cable TV, WIFI, a powerful ceiling fan, a wardrobe, a chair, and a table. We welcome you to take advantage of the common areas in the house, which includes the spacious living area, kitchen, washing machine and an iron available for your use.
You will never run out of things to do in the Colonial Zone! We are steps away from the stimulating El Conde street, restaurants, bars, clubs, museums, health centers, shops, parks, pharmacies, churches (Primatial Cathedral of America), banks, super markets. Just two blocks in the other direction, you will find yourself on the famous Malecon (a 10 kilometer boardwalk)
There is constant public transportation and affordable taxi options in the area.
A little bit about us: My husband Rafael and I are retired from our teaching professions, and passionate about showing travelers the riches of our country. On occasion, my daughter Maria Raquel (a dancer with the national ballet dominican) and her husband Ygor come to the apartment to help out when I go to my country home.
We are happy to arrange airport pick up for a nominal fee of $30 USD (not included in the rate and is payable upon arrival at the apartment).
Safe travels and can’t wait to host your Dominican adventures!

  • I can't express enough how warm of a host Luz and her family were. While I speak pretty much no Spanish, my travel companion was fluent, and whenever we were at the house, Luz would regale us with stories of Dominican history.

The house is pretty central, and our room was plenty big - heads up, though - no air conditioning (the fan does a more than adequate job) or hot water! A cold shower felt great after sweaty days in Santo Domingo, though. It's a short walk - about 5 minutes - to the bustling center of the Zona Colonial, where you'll find really, really old buildings as well as cute cafes (hit up Restaurant El Conde) where you can sit back and sip on a mojito in the shade.

The breakfast included with our stay each morning was filling and delicious, and they were willing to accommodate any dietary restrictions. We were served hearty egg and potato dishes, accompanied by awesome tropical juice slushies and some of the best (and strongest) coffee I've ever had.

Overall, we had an amazing time with Luz's place as our home base for exploring the capital. Other travelers were staying there as well, and we chatted with a couple from Poland, a college student from China, and an American grad student around her dinner table. We shared tips based on all our experiences, which made everyone's trip a bit more interesting.

At the end of the day, though, it's a great, comfortable, and quiet place to rest your head for the next day - AND the wi-fi is mighty fast and reliable. When you want to go out of walking range, Luz will call you a cab, which always ended up being way cheaper than when we hailed on the street. What a host.

  • Our stay with Luz Maria was incredible. She is extremely warm, generous, and fun to be around, and her breakfasts were always the best meal of the day. Her home is beautiful and comfortable and in an extremely convenient part of the city, and it was always a pleasure to chat with her, her husband, and her daughters. She was very helpful in arranging transportation to and from the airport as well, which was much appreciated. Luz, muchas gracias y nos vemos pronto! Un abrazo, Emily

  • We had amazing time at Luz's! She and her family went far beyond to make us feel like home; fresh dominican breakfasts, clean and comfy room and advise on anything we needed, ensured that we enjoyed our time in Santo Domingo to the fullest! Location is ideal! We also used the taxi Luz arranged for us and it was more than perfect after 27 hours of travelling and one delayed flight. Could not imagine a better place to stay in Santo Domingo!

  • I had a very nice time with Luz. As a single female traveller it was for me important to feel safe in a city I never visited before. The stay in this basic and affordable B&B was all I could wish for. The family arranged for me a reasonably priced airport pick-up in de evening and waited for me - and the other guests – no matter what time you arrived. The room was nice and large, the bed was good, no aircon but a good fan. Breakfast was home cooked Dominican style and more than enough. You feel at home in the warm family house, where parents, children and grandchild live at the first floor. The rooms to rent are on the ground floor. From the B&B it is a short 5 minutes walk to the independence park, where also the main shopping street starts.
The taxi driver also accompanied me to the Columbus site outside the old city. The last day they made sure I was in time at the east busstation for my trip to the north of DR. I would have had a hard time to find this on my own!
If you want a glimpse of real Dominican life, with very warm people go here!

  • A warm welcoming family and comfortable aired room made for a lovely stay. Luz was very helpful with directions, tips on taxis and always available to answer questions. Delicious breakfast and great location for the main pedestrian area - I'm looking going back!

  • We had an amazing stay here! The whole family was incredibly welcoming and so helpful - they went above and beyond to help us find our way around, get tickets to baseball games, etc. The breakfast is delicious, the beds are clean and comfy, and the location - right on the edge of the Colonial Zone - is impossible to beat. We were impressed over and over again by how kind and generous everyone was, and all agreed that it was so much better than staying in a hotel!

  • Doña Luz and her husband were wonderful hosts. They were hospitable, friendly and kind. Delicious Dominican coffee and breakfast including yuca, huevos, mangu and jugo were served every day. In addition, the apartment is very centrally placed, near shops and restaurants in the Colonial Zone.

I would gladly recommend this apartment to anyone wishing for a pleasant and low-cost stay in the Colonial Zone of Santo Domingo.

  • We had a great time here! Wonderful people and breakfast was awesome. Very great location too! They offered to call us taxis and got us great prices on those. Felt at home and were calling each other family when we left :)

  • Luz is very kind and helpful lady. Unfortunately she only speaks spanish and nobody in the house spoke english to me. My wife speaks spanish so that made it easier. The house was clean and qas cleaned after 3 days of staying there but we stil managed to find 3 cockroaches in the room. The breakfast was very filling and access to water juices and fruits the whole day is wonderful. What's not wonderful is crying child who is living in the house and wasn't mentioned. The child got sick and was crying the whole day, we couldnt stay in the house because of the noise. There was also constant movement in the house, friends of the family and neighbours always visiting. There is a lock on the bedroom but we definately felt a lack of privacy. The house is located close to Zona Colonial and lots of little bars and restaurants and close to taxis.
