A comfortable family home with a warm welcome just a few minutes from sparkling waters at a lovely clean beach, superb restaurants (some cheap and traditional, others with top quality seafood) and a brief bus ride to the treasures of Bari vecchia
This quiet sunny apartment is four minutes walk from the sea, two minutes drive from the main road, 10-15 minutes from Bari.
Swimming - walk through an archaeological area (the Louvre is full of artefacts from here), see the remains of a Roman road and some saltpans, and dive into the crystal clear water from a wonderful natural platform. Head back for a shower and off to work or sightseeing or whatever you have planned.
House - incredibly quiet for a seafront house close to the main highway, built on three floors, it has two bathrooms and three bedrooms (one occupied by the house-owners, who are Buddhists).
Shops - right across the road you can find 1) a small very friendly supermarket where they will probably ask you if you are staying at my house (Donato speaks quite good English), 2) an ice-cream or gelato shop famous throughout the Bari area 3) an excellent butcher's and 4) a great new fresh fish shop.
Guests have full use of kitchen facilities and small garden (no nicking my daughter's strawberries, though!). Very friendly dog.
Transport from the airport: since July 2013 there is a great light railway connection from the airport to Bari Centrale station which takes just 15 minutes (price 5 euros)
At times it may be quicker to take the blue airport bus direct to Bari Centrale station (price 4.15).
Then from the station either take a train to Torre a Mare where I will pick you up, or a number 12 or 12/ (dodici nbarrato or "twelve bar") (for timetable search for "torre a mare" amtab 12), which both stop at via Colonna, 16 (see timetable and ask driver) which is about 200 metres from my house, and if you let me know what bus you are on I'll wait for you there.
I hope that's all clear, but let me know if you need any further help!
it was so helpful, that we could stay for only one day. Anthony was a very uncomplicate and friendly host. It is really a place for a morning swim and you can see the sea from the balcony
Wonderful hospitality and easy location from Bari airport.
My partner and I arrived into Bari in a disheveled state after sequence of travellers misfortune, very late at night. Anthony was an amazing host and went out of his way to make us feel welcome, including picking us up from the train station at midnight!
I can highly recomend Anthony's place. It is located right at a very nice beach. The room is big with a big balcony. The bathroom was very very clean and nice. We had enough privacy but also nice conversation with Anthony who is a really interesting person. It is a quiet area so we could sleep very good with the windows open. But just a few minutes away there are restaurants and bars. So when you go to Bari...a great place to stay.
Anthony is a great host and his lovely home is the perfect place whether you want to relax and unwind or go out and enjoy the city. Helpful, laid-back and 'in the know' about what's going on in Bari, I would highly recommend Anthony (and stay again).
Anthony was the best host a traveler could hope for! We ate home-made bucatini, watched the Italy-England football game and enjoyed his lovely accommodations (including a view of the sea from our bedroom!). If you stop in Bari, look no further. Anthony is your man!
Being Anthony's first AirBnb guests was a very comfortable, homey experience and a perfect low-key way to wind down from the bumpy bus ride down from Bari Airport to start off our first explorations in Italy's heel. Even if we only stayed one night, Anthony set us up for a perfect vacation, collecting us from the bus station hungry, straight into a panificio, showing us places to bathe right in front of the door, sharing interesting stories about expat life in Puglia and - very helpful - dropping us off at the train station. Especially compared to many impersonal AirBnb listings in the greater Bari area that seem to consist of non-descript appartments carelessly entered by realtors or shadier characters, Anthony provided exactly the personal BnB experience that we signed up for at this site in the first place. Recommended!
Our opinion can't be different from those of the others who stayed with Anthony. He is a very good host - from the very moment of booking the room he made sure we'd be able to find proper transportation means, then guided us when we missed a few buses. Anthony was also a great help for us who don't like following typical paths given by travel guides - he gave us his own recommendations of what is worth seeing in the area. If you are looking for a room near Bari, this is the best choice you can make.
Anthony is a very helpful, genuine and superb host, he provides the type of experience I appreciate and enjoy when traveling- local culture and insight!! Anthony went above and beyond to ensure a great visit and for that I am grateful. I wouldn't think twice about a return visit!
