Great value for your money ! !
The riad was well decorated, and the staff exceedingly polite and helpful. Abdel brought louiza (verbena) leaves from the market, after learning that I liked the tea, for example.
I found the description of the hammam to be misleading, as it sounds like it is part of the riad. It is part of the riad next door, which can be reached (as it says) without leaving the building, but it costs extra to use. We chose this property, in part, because of the inclusion of the hammam, so this was a disappointment. When I mentioned this to Jean-Christophe, he waved dismissively and said, "We are listed on so many sites, it's hard to keep track of what they all say..."
Additionally, my first impression of him was not very positive, as it consisted of him hurling insults at the Moroccan porter who helped transport our bags from the dropoff point. Since I booked the reservation, he seemed to believe neither of us spoke French; he seemed somewhat chagrined to realize my companion had understood perfectly well what he'd said. The porter was begging and cajoling for more money, as expected, but there was no cause to be so rude.
- The shower did not drain properly. Standing in a puddle of dirty water is unpleasant as well as unhygienic. We mentioned the problem on our first day, but it was not resolved during our 3 days there.
- The doors have large gaps along the sides. There is a curtain in the room to allow for visual privacy, but sound comes in an out as if the door was not present.
- Smoking is allowed in the public areas. Since the courtyard is covered with clear plastic, the smoke does not escape. Due to the gaps in the door, it often seemed to come straight into our room.
- There are many stray cats in Morocco. When I took pity on a thin kitten living on the street where the riad was located, Jean-Christophe told me that my efforts were pointless. After seeing that I would not be dissuaded, he did lend me a small dish to bring water to the kitten, but took every opportunity to let me know I was wasting my time. Don't want to help? Then don't. But don't insult me for my efforts.
I appreciate all the efforts of the staff, but will likely look elsewhere for my next trip.
Overall the experience of our sojourn in this Riad can be compared to boarding a Easy jet flight, which if on time, runs well without any problem turns out to be a cost effective viable option, but when something goes wrong can really rip you off.
As described by other reviewers and based on our initial experience Diva lived up to its nice, well decorated image. The rooms, breakfast is nice. The service was fine for a day or two.
The hosts Jenny and Jean Christophe are partners in crime when it comes to deceit and bad manners. Please beware of their apparent honey and sugar coated behavior
We booked our stay from Dec 24-26 after which we would leave for a tour and then come back for a stay from 28-31. Only upon asking very casually on Dec 26 we discovered that our stay on Dec 28 was conveniently cancelled in this Riad and we would be transferred to Riad J'adore where the rooms according to us were not half as nice for the same price. We were given an unbelievable excuse that the Riad (Diva) is sold out and they got the news only now. So by Dec 31 Jenny the host of Diva has to empty and move out all the stuff. We agreed to do so as we got to now this last minute in Marrakech had no choice, and we also believed Jean Christoph's words that the Riad was equally good.
When on Dec 28 evening we got to the Riad we requested Jean Christophe to shift us to the other Riad as J'adore according to us, was not equivalent for the price we paid. He refused to do so and made up stories that Jenny has to empty it etc .He insisted we stay at J'adore that night and he will speak to Jenny later on phone but we found out Jenny was sitting right there in J'adore, overhearing our conversation.
We saw Jenny and said hi to her. She came abusing and howling at us immediately seeing us and asking us to leave with our money.
We had no choice but to vacate that Riad that evening as it was impossible to stay with such impolite and uncivilized behavior. We left with our money but not the air bnb service charges which also ideally they should pay us back as we had not cancelled our booking.
It clearly was a scenario of overbooking the place (intentionally or having made a mistake) and forcibly moving us to another location for the same price without giving us any choice. It is not possible that a Riad is sold so suddenly and in such short notice and if one has booked people , one can not vacate it. By the way the rooms were and still available with the same hosts listed on Riad Diva site.
Had they been honest, and courteous, I am sure Riad Diva would have certainly been a pleasantly memorable experience.
My friend and our daughters and I enjoyed our visit and were made welcome by Jean-Christophe and Jenny. Be warned that the main hostess doesn't speak English so it's a little difficult if you don't speak French or want extended discussions. She is lovely and helpful however. The beds were comfortable, hot water a bit scarce. Breakfast good, and location also. Christy & Kathy
The reservation was canceled 20 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
We spend wonderful time in this peaceful Riad. Recommend to everyone :) There is internet working very well!
In the middle of the center but so quiet!
Jean Christophe was a very helpful host.
Good breakfast, nice and clean rooms.
If you can get a suite-room, take that one.
Wonderful roof terrace.
The Riad is fantastic, easy to get to and right at the heart of the medina. Marrakesh can be very overwhelming but somehow at the Riad, you manage to find peace and quite. Jean- Christophe was super helpful and nice and ready to make our stay a pleasant one.I would highly recommend it to anyone I know :D
