A traditional Andalucian cavehouse with original features, fine mountain views in a conservation village, and c.320 days of sun a year. WIFI included free! You can walk to a swimming pool or use your own hot tub on the patio and enjoy the mountain views.

The house has two double bedrooms, two shower rooms, and also two sofabeds in the lounge - it is suitable for 6.

Just bring yourselves, food and drink. The bed is made (100% cotton linen), towels are provided, as are teatowels, a new dishcloth at every changeover, washing up liquid, liquid soap, first few toilet rolls, first basket of logs for the fire (winter months), and the kitchen is equipped. There's even free WIFI - All you need to do is relax :)

There isn't much not to like about this part of Spain; fantastic and varied landscapes, friendly people, great regional food at fair prices, and weather that almost always brings a smile to your face.

Perez de Hita is in the heart of the conservation area at Galera, the most celebrated of the Andalucian cave 'towns'. The council here strictly controls development, restricting any new building, and making sure that any changes to existing houses doesn't detract from the character of the neighbourhood.

We chose Perez (over the many over-modernised cavehouses) as it retained good original C19 features such as the fireplaces and alabaster kitchen sink, and also because it was one of those houses that feels good from the moment you arrive 'home'. It sits on a very quiet dead-end road high enough up the hill to get the fine mountain views, but still close enough to walk into 'town' (some would say 'village') for lunch, wifi, or a dip in the municipal open-air pool.

Late evening arrivals are fine as we have a keycode access system.

The beauty of these caves that even in the heat of August they remain deliciously cool inside without any need for fans or air conditioning, and in winter when it snows they remain a constant 14 & to 17 degrees even before you light the fire. Trips out will include freshwater bathing lakes, geothermal pools, many pretty towns, or to the Alhambra in Granada, which remains one of our top 5 buildings after decades of seeing the greatest architecture of the world. Perez is a simple, relaxing place to stay. It faces south so you migrate to the patio at the front and watch the colours change on the mountain landscape as the day progresses. It started life as two cavehouses, so internally you have the privacy of two 'wings' making it ideal for two couples. Why not time your holiday to coincide with one of the local fiestas?

The property is heated by two fireplaces, and additional electric heating in winter - cavehouses maintain a constant temperature year-round

Pets welcome - I just ask not to allow them on the beds or sofa thanks. This is actually a great place if you have a dog as open mountain walking starts at the door.

Very little though there is a local property manager and housekeeper.

The neighborhood

Probably the loveliest part of Spain - many local lakes, bathing beaches, historic towns and great food. Mountain walks from the door!
