  • Paul and Shelia were great hosts who went above and beyond to make sure we had anything and everything we needed, and the cabin itself was beautiful. Cazadero is a great little town and pizza at Raymonds Bakery was super good. If you are looking for great hosts, redwoods, and a relaxing location, this is the spot for you.

  • I wish airbnb allowed a 6 star rating, because that's what I'd give Paul and Sheila for their redwood cabin in Cazadero. They were amazing hosts - kind and extremely generous. Every little detail was taken care of, including a bottle of wine and a schedule of local community events. The cabin itself is new and well decorated, with a very comfy bed and forest views. We loved our stay here and will be back for sure.

  • Everything was so great, I don't know where to start...

The place: it looks like a fantasy tree house, tucked into the hills with the creek flowing just across the street and below it. The area is completely quiet, so you're surrounded by nature, birds chirping, and...well, that's about it. The inside offers just about everything you need: fridge, king bed, small bathroom and kitchen, microwave, TV, DVD player--the works. You won't want to leave!

The area: again, the area is beautiful. You're about 1 minute from Austin Creek, 15 minutes from Monte Rio, and 25 minutes from Guerneville. So whether you want to float in the river or nearby creek, you're completely covered. Downtown (think: one convenience store and hardware store) is less than a mile away, so the place couldn't be more central.

The company: Paul and Sheila are the best! They live right upstairs and you'll be happy they do. They're extremely nice and inviting, and they're full of good recommendations (i.e. Raymond's Bakery on Friday nights). They really helped shape my entire weekend. I'd cheers a beer mug with those two any day of the week.

  • My friend and I had been looking for a quick city get-away and Paul and Sheila's place in Cazadero fit the bill perfectly. The apartment below the main house is clean and comfortable and has everything you need but I would say the real draw of this property is the location. It is situated at the end of a private road near the creek and the house is nestled among the trees and while we were relaxing on the private deck we had birds and butterflies visit us while we sat on the private deck. There is a great bakery (Raymonds) at the top of the private road (great brownies!) and the Cazadero general store is a mile down the road. It is an easy drive to Guerneville and Armstrong Redwoods State Park. Paul and Sheila are gracious and knowledgable hosts and we really felt our every need was met.

  • Paul and Sheila were lovely, thoughtful hosts and the suite was great, exactly as described and pictured. I'd never been to the Cazadero area and it was beautiful and convenient — in one day we managed to walk on the beach, go hiking amid redwoods, and visit a winery. My only regret this time was that our visit was so brief, and I'm looking forward to being able to come back.

  • At the very last minute (as in Friday afternoon) we decided we needed to get out of the City for the weekend. We know the area and were excited to see Paul & Sheila's listing. Imagine how happy we were when they responded that it was available and that they could easily meet us to hand off the key. We were so thrilled with everything: the location is a sweet morning stroll from Raymond's for fresh baked pastries & coffee in the morning, and is absoulutely immaculate! Absolutely everything we needed - from zip lock bags to French cable stations to fresh linens to sunscreen to fresh fruit and flowers from Sheila - were all waiting for us! And it's clear Paul & Sheila love living here and hosting people: they were extremely accessible and friendly. We felt in very good hands the entire weekend. 5 stars all round!

  • Cazadero is a great place to hide from the city for a weekend, and Paul and Sheila's retreat makes a fantastic home base. The vacation rental is on a lower level of the larger house and was quiet and private. The place was immaculate, and the hosts couldn't have been kinder or more considerate. I loved having coffee on the balcony and watching the sun filter through the trees. They're just down a private road from Raymond's Bakery, so if you were coming to Cazadero with a group of adults who all wanted private spaces to sleep in, you could look into booking this rental in addition to the cottages. I'd recommend the Retreat in the Redwoods to anyone who wants a quiet reset in west Sonoma, and hope to see Paul and Sheila again soon!

  • We enjoyed our stay at Paul and Sheila's Redwood Retreat. The place is clean and very comfortable. The kitchen is very well equipped for basic needs (fridge, microwave, toaster oven, all manner of supplies). Note that it doesn't have a stove; however, we were happy to check out local restaurants, and enjoyed the bread from the local bakery for our breaksfasts. Paul and Sheila were helpful with recommendations, and included some thoughtful little touches for a pleasant guest experience.

  • I stayed at Paul and Sheila's rental unit over Saturday night the weekend of July 14th. I had had a lot of trouble finding a place that allowed one night stays the weekend of Vineman. Paul and Sheila's unit is perfect for a quiet weekend retreat or if you are looking for a convenient Russian River place for an event (like I was). They keep a homey, neat and welcoming apartment with views of the redwoods, walking distance to a beautiful creek swimming hole, and a few minutes from Cazadero. I bonded with Paul talking about his past running and triathlons, and both he and Sheila were super friendly. A great first experience with AirBnB!!!

We are Paul and Sheila Juilly. We came to Cazadero weekends and vacations during our working years, but moved here full time 2 years ago when we retired. We are both from the Bay Area, Paul being born in San Francisco and Sheila in Oakland. Paul grew up in San Carlos. We met at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo and moved back to the Bay Area after college when we married. We raised 2 children in San Mateo, and after they 'flew the nest', we moved to San Francisco for the next phase of our lives. Paul is a retired structural engineer and Sheila has been a teacher and an administrative assistant. Now we are lucky to be 'on vacation' all the time in this beautiful area. We enjoy hiking, biking, classical music and traveling. We have been to many countries in Europe as well as Canada, Mexico, China, Cambodia and Tahiti. Some of our travel has involved home exchanges. We enjoy meeting new people and have been renting our guest suite for the last 2 years. For French visitors, Sheila can converse/correspond in French. We live in Cazadero because Paul's family came to Cazadero in 1918 when his uncle went to Boy Scout camp here. That was the beginning of family vacations every summer since then. Originally we stayed with the extended family in their cabin. In 1979 we had our own house built. We finished the guest suite in 2005.
