We had a great time in New York and found in the apartment everything we needed! We had some trouble with using the keys and the TV on the first day but Michael came over and helped us immediately.
We stayed 5 nights in Michaels Appartement and everything was perfect :)
The subway station was around the corner ans Michael was a very nice host
We spent lovly time in NYC in Michal's apartments. We had everything what we needed. I really recommend this place.
Our stay in Michael's apartment was great. It is near the Kingston Throops subway station of the C train, merely 7 stops from Manhattan. The studio was cleaned and well-maintained.
This appartment was in good shape with a comfortable bed and clean sheets. Big fridge and useful kitchen, cable and net. We didn't meet Michael personaly but he seems to be nice person. He recommend us excellent restaurant close to his appartment. We could let our baggage in flat on the last day and enabled us check out later so we could enjoy NYC! It was splendid trip!
We arrived in NYC exhausted from our flight from California, hungry, and a bit taken aback by the below freezing temperatures. To our delight our host was patiently standing in front of our room's building braving the elements when we arrived from the airport. He amiably chatted as we dropped off our bags and then personally walked us to his favorite restaurant a couple of blocks away.
The room itself also exceeded our expectations. This one bedroom studio had all the essentials that are easy to take for granted, but that make a huge difference when absent. The room included clean sheets, towels, cable, internet, dishes, and an ironing board. The room was literally 2 minutes away from the A & C train so getting around the city was a breeze.
Bedford-Stuyvesant was very peaceful and quiet. We had one morning where a guy knocked on our bedroom window for about eight minutes attempting to gain access to the apartment building. However, other than that there were no issues. Considering we were in the city that never sleeps we were able to obtain a refreshing amount of unimpeded sleep.
Overall the trip was spectacular and we wouldn't change a thing. Our gracious host was very accommodating and worked with us to set check-in and checkout times that were most convenient for our travel schedule. We were able to focus our energy on simply enjoying our vacation to the fullest, and we had the time of our lives.
Everything went good and the apartment was in good shape, just as described. I didn't meet Michael in person, but had no problems communicating otherwise and he seems like a nice guy.
10min to Manhattan is maybe a bit understatement, but it's not that far either. Most days I used around 20-30min to get to Manhattan depending on the subways.
Communication with Eerik was a breeze, inspite of the major winter storm that hit NY upon Eerik's arrival/throughout his stay. The winter storm may have also been the reason for Eerik's delayed commute into Manhattan (commuting time may also depend on the location in Manhattan- the studio is 10 minutes to lower Manhattan). Eerik left the space clean and is welcome back anytime.
Michael was very nice and helpful to us, it is great to stay with a host that cares so much for the wellbeing of his guests. We really enjoyed staying at the studio, and would love to be back in NY very soon!
I stayed around the New Year. I booked from December 27 but as my flight was advanced we agreed by email an extra night the 26 . When I arrived, he was not there and could not be reached on his mobile . I waited for 3 hours in the stairwell (fortunately a neighbor had opened , it was very cold ) and as he didn't arrive, I had to book a room for the night. Once at the hotel, he told me he was at the apartment and ask me if I could cancel what I could not do because it was an automatic check in. The exchange of text was pretty tense, then he apologized , realizing the situation and telling me that he had actually forgotten that I arrived on the 26th. ( This first day was very tiring , I had not slept for over 24 hours, I was alone in a strange city with all my stuff , I do not know what to do, at one time I even had tears the eyes ... it's not what you'd expect from a trip !)
We were finally able to arrange an appointment the next morning. When I arrived it was there, and told me he would change the bed in the day because it was broken ... and asked me to invite me to the restaurant to apologize. In fact, in the week he sent me an email inviting me to dinner but I declined the proposal seemed moved me . For the check out , we had an appointment at 12am , I waited (again) he did not come and send me a message at 12.30 to tell me to leave the keys on the table and it would no come ! He told me he would payback me $ 50 to apologize and again he did not ...
Regarding the apartment, there was a strong smell of cat in the hallway, it was very hot and it was not possible to adjust the heating, pipes were a little bite full, a light was not working .. but the new bed was comfortable and the studio was well equipped. Regarding the neighborhood, I would not recommend it for a single woman , although the metro is really close .
So I 'm rather disappointed with my experience..
Magali never booked the extra night (December 26) she needed via Airbnb like I advised her to do. It is not possible to book nights and or make alterations to a reservation, off the grid and or off-line, which is why I asked Magali to book the extra day she needed the same way she booked her other days, via Airbnb. Again, she never booked the extra day she needed and as a host I want to ensure the safety of all my guests by managing this process adhering to Airbnb policies, rather than off-line, as per Magali's requests. This lead to her arrival being unexpected known by her calling after she made her way to the studio on a day that she never booked. The bed was broken by a previous guest and as with all repairs -repairs are completed before the next guests arrival. Magali’s arrival was unexpected and this meant booking the cleaning person and changing out the bed within in a rush to accommodate Magali’s unexpected arrival. My offering up diner or breakfast at one of my favorite local restaurants was a gesture to help ease Magali’s anxiety and to introduce her to a very friendly, safe, professional, and colorful community that I take great pride in that is Brooklyn. I stay in constant communication with all my guests, so that keys are exchanged, upon arrival and departure. It is most unfortunate that Magali never booked her extra, which would have prevented all the unexpected events. In the end, it is good to know that I was able to accommodate Magali with an early check-in on the day of her expected arrival, that she appreciated the new bed and was able to carry out her NY tour with safety, ease and location of the subway nearby.
