Beatriz & Abundio
Both Abundio and his wife were great. They were at the house to receive us even though we arrived really late around 10.30 PM. We locked ourselves IN the house coz of the wierd lock, but when we called them, they arrived promptly and helped us out, many thanks to them for that!
However, we did not like the house a lot. I guess you get what you pay for. We found the house to be pretty outdated and old. Location wasn't great at all. The chickens and dogs in the neighbourhood kept making noise that kept us awake for most of the night. We weren't able to get the water heater to start and so we had to take shower in cold water... and it was pretty cold water. We decided to leave on the first day even though we had reservations for 3 days.
As hosts they are great and the price is great. But not what we were looking for. We were on a vacation and we thought it might be a good idea to stay at a better location than to deal with all the issues.
A fabulous house at a fabulous price!
I just got back from my week in Cancún, staying at this house and absolutely loved it.
First off, Abundio & his wife are genuinely lovely people, so caring and honest. They really helped me get my bearings in the area and advised me on how to get around from the house. This was perfect.
The house is clutter-free, secure and really bright! The master bedroom is definitely fabulous to be in.
As for someone else's comment about the neighbourhood being 'notorious' - yes Rancho Viejo is 'scary' to some Cancún people, but this is more a 'fear of the unknown'. There are some humble people in the vicinity, who mind their own business dealing with farming. But 'humble' is the key word. I chatted to many people during my week there and, though the outskirts of the tourist zone has less wealth, it has the same loving fondness for other humans :)
Stay here for the 'real' local living. And don't forget, it's not expensive, which is why it's not in the Hotel Zone and does not have any English-speaking porters or limo drivers.
Abundio and his wife are super sweet! They picked us up from the ADO bus station on New Years, which I know wasn't an easy task, got us settled in the home and gave us privacy. They also checked in on us during our stay as well, home is very clean, wifi works great, great kitchen, and hot water a-plenty!
The home is deep in a neighborhood and not extremely walkable to much except for a market. It is easy to find a cab outside to take you to the port or hotel zone if that is what you are interested in. If you are hoping to have an authentic experience in Cancun with some locals, this is the place. If you want to walk outside and be near bars and hotels...not for you.
Thank you so much for your hospitality Abundio and Beatrice! We really appreciate
Abundio and his wife were great hosts. Their house is very spacious and comfortable. However, its location is not ideal. It is located in a neighborhood which has a reputation for being unsafe, something I learned after speaking to many Cancun locals. That being said, the house is nice and Abundio was a gracious and hospitable host.
Thanks for letting us to be your host. We are sorry you heard negative comments about the location of our place. We had not complains about the location from other guests before. We are please to have the opportunity of meeting you. You can count always with our friendship . We wish you a happy a New Year!
My home is your home, that's perfect name for the house.Big house with all amenities except microwave and toaster but gas is perfect. Abondio and Betriz both are kind and always ready to help. They even take you to supermarket to bey (website hidden) front of the house in the grocery shop you will get all the stuff.Grand mother in front of the house will wash your cloth in 10 peso /kg.The mobile which he give to you with Mexican no is quite helpful. The hotel zone is far but it is well connected with shire transport. Both wife and husbend and are nice host, you must book without any hitch. And for the price the whole house fabulous.
Abundio and his lovely wife picked me up from the airport when I arrived in Cancun. They are really lovely people, kind and hospitable. My room was really lovely and comfortable and I didn't want for anything, everthing was provided. Thank you once again. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and your company and friendship
GRACIAS POR LA OPORTUNIDAD DE CONOCERTE Y POR APRENDER DE TI; ESTAREMOS ENCANTADOS DE RECIBIRTE Y ATENDERTE EN TU PRÓXIMA VISITA A CANCUN.
CUIDATE MUCHO Y SE FELIZ.
We are grateful for meeting you and to learn about the wonderful work you do and about your love for children and people. We would be happy to see you again in Cancun.
Have a fantastic visit with your family and take care our dear friend!
There are 2 rooms available, the one shown and another.
I strongly advise against staying in the 2nd bedroom as it has no a/c and is unbearably hot even though there is a ceiling fan and they also provide you with a floor fan. Because of the heat you may have to open the window but then the cockerels start their morning song very early from right next door. Also if you stay in the 2nd bedroom you will have to use the toilet and shower downstairs and currently there is no lock on that bathroom door. and it doesn't close properly.
The main bedroom is comfortable and I would definitely recommend it. I had no issues with it whatsoever.
As for the area, yes it's a bit out of the way from any action but the transport links are very good and you can get to downtown pretty quickly as there are combis every few minutes.
There is a noticeable stench of sewage outside the property but you cannot smell it at all inside the house.
The area doesn't seem very conducive for walking around in at night as there is poor lighting in the area generally and there are alot of street dogs claiming territory by aggressive barking.
Abundio and his wife Beatriz are very helpful (she speaks English) but they are very busy and they live elsewhere. They respond quickly to messages but I got messages from 4 different numbers by the end so it was a little confusing which to choose when I had to contact them but in the end it was fine.
Lastly they have this great printout to hand to taxi drivers with a message in Spanish with complete instructions to get to the house as well as a map. Unfortunately they don't send you this helpful page of info to you before you arrive, I have no idea why not. As I chose to drive down it took a while to find the place as only one house has a visible house number thus finding the house was difficult. (It's exactly opposite a small parade of shops). I did suggest to him to at least paint the house number outside. I sent quite a few messages to them trying to pinpoint their address as they kept giving incomplete info but it was ultimately vague, this is very common in Mexico.
Finally, the house does seem to be under construction as there are 2 more rooms being built but they seem to have a separate entrance. It seems that the construction was stopped a while ago and there are no signs that it will continue anytime soon. I mention this just so some of the confusing architectural details and floor plan is in context.
I would recommend staying here if you get the main bedroom, don't mind being a little away from the action and don't want to wander around the area at night.
Thanks Abundio and Beatriz for my stay.
Despite of the inclement weather Abundio made us feel at home in his white house situated in a very cozy neighborhood near Puerto Juarez. we could use the entire house including kitchen facilities and there are many shops and food places around, plus its well served by public transport to go to the zona hotelera and nearby beaches and to the imbarcadero to Isla Mujeres. I would highly recomend to stay at Abundio's as its the cheapest and nicer place to stay in Cancun. For us certainly has been a second home in Mexico. Abundio is a noble and generous host he can pick you up and drop you from/at airport for a very reasonable fee with his pictoreque wv beetle!
I came to town for a few days for a conference and wanted somewhere quiet and relaxing to decompress and work every evening. Abundio's place was just right for me!
Abundio and his wife Beatriz got me squared away with everything I needed-- drinking water, maps, keys, directions for busses, info about the air conditioning, even a phone-- and then left me to my blessed, heavenly peace and quiet!
When I called to check in and organize a ride to the airport, they were responsive.
This home is in a quiet neighborhood and a bit off the beaten path for tourists. It was everything I wanted at a great price.
I loved my stay. Abundio Ramos and Beatriz are very nice and friendly people. They gave me the whole house to stay. The house is spacious and clean, with all the requisite facilities. There was air-conditioning in the primary bedroom. This house could even be booked by a couple or a family or a group. Although the neighborhood is a little far from downtown or hotel zone, it is very well connected by public transport. Abundio also gave me a cell phone for my stay so that I could connect with them if I needed. It was a great gesture. They were actually extremely kind to take my call at 12 in the night and guide me when I lost my way to reach back home (lost the letter they gave me with bus number and street name). Abundio also dropped me at the airport for a reasonable fee and allowed me to keep my stuff at the house even after my scheduled stay was over so that I don't have to walk around with all my stuff. They also helped me plan my vacation - guided me about the places I must visit and how to best organize my day. Abundio, being a police officer, is also very cognizant of your security and provides useful tips to stay safe. Beatriz is extremely nice and much more proficient in English (I don't speak Spanish). Both of them have great care and love for tourists and have deep cultural understanding. I highly recommend them. I would encourage everyone coming to Cancun to try them. The price is very reasonable too.
