  • We could not have asked for a better host for our 4 days in Cancun. That was our last stop on a Mayan trek across the Yucatan and Abundio helped make it a very meaningful part of our trip. He met us at the bus station, took us to the house, showed us some great little eateries (all great), and helped us get our car rental arranged. The house is spacious and comfortable, the AC in the bedroom works great (especially after a long day on your feet) and there is a little store and an elderly lady who will do your laundry for 10 pesos/Kg right across the street. The neighborhood is modest but perfectly safe and friendly. You are a little removed from the tourist zone but that's how we like to travel so it was an ideal setting. If you like to be away from the tourist crush but don't want to rent a car, don't worry, there are plenty of taxis to get you in to town and they are not expensive. Abundio lives right upstairs so he is very accessible. He is very gracious and will help in any way he can to make your visit comfortable and pleasant. If you want to see the real Cancun and live among the locals, this is the perfect place. Thanks Abundio!

  • A very polite and helpful host. He happily showed us around and was easy to get hold of when we needed something. The house is not located in the best area, but it works and you get what you pay for. Access to the downtown area is easy through bus our taxi.

  • El lugar esta muy bien ubicado, todo te queda cerca. Abundio es muy amable. En pocas palabras es muy recomendable, yo si regreso a Cancún me quedaría otra vez en su casa. :)

  • Great host. Abundio was very attentive, considerate and friendly. The house was in a quiet and model place in cancun. It was a bit far from the beach, but easy to find. The house was big and comfortable. i really enjoyed my stay in cancun. thank you.

  • Abundio and Beatriz were fabulous hosts - attentive, helpful and available when we needed anything.

Their home is a good option for a budget traveler. The location is a bit out of the center, but transportation was always easy. There are numerous buses and taxis passing by a block away. Taxis to and from town cost $3 - $5 (it was always cheaper going towards town - prices varied but were never outrageous). We used the buses to get to the beaches without much problem. If you want to take a tour, the operators will give you the name of a downtown hotel where you can meet the tour bus. Then take a taxi there.

The neighborhood is modest, but felt safe. There are kids and grandmas walking about. The little store across the street is open long hours and has a little of everything. A good supermarket is a couple miles away - easy by bus or taxi. Our main disturbance were the numerous barking dogs. They seemed quite passive on the street, but frequently made a lot of ruckus, day and night.

The home itself has some really beautiful design elements, although it feels a bit like a work in progress. Some walls are freshly painted, others could really use another coat to freshen the place up. The main bedroom is nice.

We like to cook and found the kitchen satisfactory. We didn't see a coffeemaker anywhere (but never remembered to ask!). The pots and pans were actually some of the nicest I've seen in a rental.

Wi-fi service was excellent. Never bothered to check the speed, but movie streaming, for example, was very good. No TV, so bring your laptop if you want home entertainment.

We also appreciated Abundio and Beatriz's personal transportation service. They charge a reasonable fee, and when my arriving flights were canceled and my girlfriend was to arrive separately, on her own, at night. , I felt much better knowing they were looking after her until I could arrive the next day.

  • Both Abundio and his wife were great. They were at the house to receive us even though we arrived really late around 10.30 PM. We locked ourselves IN the house coz of the wierd lock, but when we called them, they arrived promptly and helped us out, many thanks to them for that!
However, we did not like the house a lot. I guess you get what you pay for. We found the house to be pretty outdated and old. Location wasn't great at all. The chickens and dogs in the neighbourhood kept making noise that kept us awake for most of the night. We weren't able to get the water heater to start and so we had to take shower in cold water... and it was pretty cold water. We decided to leave on the first day even though we had reservations for 3 days.
As hosts they are great and the price is great. But not what we were looking for. We were on a vacation and we thought it might be a good idea to stay at a better location than to deal with all the issues.

  • A fabulous house at a fabulous price!
I just got back from my week in Cancún, staying at this house and absolutely loved it.
First off, Abundio & his wife are genuinely lovely people, so caring and honest. They really helped me get my bearings in the area and advised me on how to get around from the house. This was perfect.
The house is clutter-free, secure and really bright! The master bedroom is definitely fabulous to be in.

As for someone else's comment about the neighbourhood being 'notorious' - yes Rancho Viejo is 'scary' to some Cancún people, but this is more a 'fear of the unknown'. There are some humble people in the vicinity, who mind their own business dealing with farming. But 'humble' is the key word. I chatted to many people during my week there and, though the outskirts of the tourist zone has less wealth, it has the same loving fondness for other humans :)
Stay here for the 'real' local living. And don't forget, it's not expensive, which is why it's not in the Hotel Zone and does not have any English-speaking porters or limo drivers.

  • Abundio and his wife are super sweet! They picked us up from the ADO bus station on New Years, which I know wasn't an easy task, got us settled in the home and gave us privacy. They also checked in on us during our stay as well, home is very clean, wifi works great, great kitchen, and hot water a-plenty!
The home is deep in a neighborhood and not extremely walkable to much except for a market. It is easy to find a cab outside to take you to the port or hotel zone if that is what you are interested in. If you are hoping to have an authentic experience in Cancun with some locals, this is the place. If you want to walk outside and be near bars and hotels...not for you.
Thank you so much for your hospitality Abundio and Beatrice! We really appreciate

  • Abundio and his wife were great hosts. Their house is very spacious and comfortable. However, its location is not ideal. It is located in a neighborhood which has a reputation for being unsafe, something I learned after speaking to many Cancun locals. That being said, the house is nice and Abundio was a gracious and hospitable host.
