About this listing
Gingerhill Farm is located on five acres of organic orchards and gardens nestled just above famous Kealakekua Bay. We offer serenity and escape mere minutes away from local restaurants and shops. Yoga, Meditation and Farming are offered Mon-Fri.
Complete with bathroom, kitchen and outdoor shower, our Garden Cottage offers the independence of a cozy, private cabin nestled above the gardens. Relax on the deck in the evenings as you enjoy breathtaking images of the sun setting over the Pacific.
Mon-Fri at 6am is meditation practice. All guests are invited. Guests can sign up for a yoga class at 11am.
Take a stroll through our gardens and then marvel at the sunset from one of various scenic decks. Hike down to Kealakekua Bay and swim with the Dolphins. Gingerhill Farm offers an exotic escape from the hustle and bustle of 21st century living.
Interaction with Guests
Guests can be independent or a part of our community as they wish. They can choose to "opt in" to our Yoga Farm Program and Meals as well when available.
South Kona's "Greenbelt," has long been known for farming, especially coffee. Lush growth and farms, cute stores, antiques and cafes dot the road down to Historic Kealakekua Bay where Captain Cook once "discovered" Hawaii and where tourists now swim with the Dolphins.
The Big Island still offers small town, Mom-and- Pop-store charm. We have a very slow bus system and not much else. Hitch-hiking is popular and easy.

This was a very nice place for my husband and I to retreat together for several days. The cottage feels very private; felt like we had the farm to ourselves. The set up is rustic (with outdoor kitchen and shower) but very clean and well kept. We had a blast snorkeling every day at "Two Step" and Kealakua Bay, only 15 minutes drive away. I loved the aesthetic of Gingerhill farm -informed by the founder-artist Mayumi Oda. The space is minimal with some beautiful handmade elements and curated book selection. We ordered one of the farm's boxes of fresh produce, which became an exciting (at first daunting) cooking challenge to put their diverse crops to use in a short amount of time with limited ingredients/supplies. I appreciated the offering of morning meditation and the overall feeling of intentionality on the property (we did not attend the farm program so cannot speak to that).
We thoroughly enjoyed our 9-day stay with Zach and Iris. The cottage was as described, clean, simple, with an outdoor kitchen and huge outdoor shower. The cottage has lovely views of the ocean and even better views of the amazing orchard, garden and wide variety of flowering plants. The arboretum-like setting may have been the best part of the ambiance - there is no need to visit commercial gardens!
Zach gave us an extensive personal tour of the farm; his natural farming methods were eye-opening and fascinating (assuming you're into that sort of thing, as we are).
The kitchen is stocked with very basic utensils, cookery, and kitchenware, but there was nothing else that we needed - another eye-opener at how simply you can live.
The welcome basket of lemons, bananas, and papaya - along with frequent gifts of coconut and other fruit from Zach as he went about his daily chores, were a further treat.
The only negative is that there are mosquitos, which are to be expected in a tropical setting. Thank goodness the bright and friendly geckos are there to help keep the population down.
Thank you so much for this restful stay.
This property was amazing. Our host was gracious of enough to give us farm fresh eggs, which we made omelettes with for breakfast. the property is beautiful with gorgeous flowers and lush greens. absolutly magical, you were the highlight of our trip
Zack and Iris were very welcoming. The cottage was a great escape. Good wifi. Clean room. Outdoor shower. It's a very nice place if you are looking to get out of tourist-heavy Kona and relax.
Our stay with Zach and Iris was wonderful. We truly enjoyed the farm, it's a very peaceful setting. I recommend taking a tour of the farm with Zach and I wish I had taken advantage of the lunch they offer as well, I'm sure it is fantastic. I can't say enough good things about our stay there. We arrived at night, following the directions they provided we found the place easily and Iris was there to meet us and show us to our room. When we return to the Big Island we will definitely stay here again.
