Our family of five (children ages 13, 9, 4) stayed here at Kubu Cempaka for about a month in July 2017 and truly enjoyed it. The staff was always friendly and helpful. The villa itself is beautiful, well manicured and almost completely open to the outside, which gave it a very peaceful feel. There was more than enough room for all of us to spread out, and there’s even a little “moat” surrounding the living room/kitchen area with fish, crabs, and turtles - which kept our youngest son constantly intrigued. Also, fun fact - there’s a small turtle that likes to hang out in a cubbie in the master bathroom; it can literally open the door to the bathroom - we got it on video! - so that made for some fun entertainment for our kids. Be ready with mosquito spray every night if you plan to sit outside, and local roosters will wake you early. Wifi was usually good (fast enough for us to stream movies through our Apple TV without a lot of problems) but it tended to slow down some at night. The location was also good; far enough away from the tourist traps to get a true “Bali” feel, but close enough to Echo Beach to have walking access to lots of different restaurants and massage parlors. The waves at Echo Beach are crazy and not to be taken lightly (we didn’t let our two youngest boys anywhere near them). The nearest grocery store (Pepito Market) is about a 10-20 minute drive, but there are also lots of small shops nearby where you can get milk, eggs, etc. We took some nice daytrips to Seminyak, Ubud and Kuta, but the one drawback we found while venturing out was the traffic, which was usually congested once on the main road. It was anywhere from a one to two hour journey to Kuta (one way) and even more so to/from the airport (i.e. it took us over two hours to get to the villa from the airport when we first arrived). Overall though, we had a very nice stay and we definitely recommend it.
Our family of 5 at Kubu Cempaka stayed just under a month and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their time here. Upon arrival walking through the gates the property has that 'wow' feature - just beautiful. With heaps of space for everyone to spread out, excellent wifi coverage (works in all corners of the property), good size well equipped kitchen & an open plan main living area overlooking the pool that was a fantastic area to lounge while watching the kids frolicking in the pool. The only downside to the outdoor living was the mosquitos, which only came out in force at night - to combat this we burnt plenty of mosquito repellant (candles & coils) & rubbed cream. Situated in a quiet residential area, you will need motorised transport if you want to sightsee or go for your grocery shop. The upside is you're only 10 minutes walk to Echo Beach and there are restaurants and cafes along the way, not to mention an array of beach front restaurants too. The Cempaka staff were great, always available to help with a smile. Overall a terrific place to stay, we highly recommend it.
We stayed at Kubu Cempaka for 1 month over Christmas 2015. We could not imagine a better location around Echo Beach. The area of Perenanan is quiet but is close to the restaurants and shops of Canggu. The restaurants close by all deliver which is great for those days when you don't want to go out. The laundry at the end of the road past the stables is cheap and very efficient. Peter the host is very quick to reply to any queries. The lovely staff at the villa, Made, Kadek and Nengah are lovely, having the security man at night was a bonus but we never felt unsafe in the area. The locals were so friendly, hire a motor scooter and get out and about, the roads around the villa are quiet. The villa is well designed. Yes the living area is open, we did burn mosquito coils and solved the problem of mossies. The kitchen has everything you need, including a coffee machine. Lots of channels on a large flat screen TVs, keeps the whole family happy. Villa is kept very clean by Made and the beds are sooo comfy. We would not hesitate to recommend this villa to all our family and friends and cannot wait to return ourselves. Ps the pool is exceptional and the photos of the villa on the website do not do the villa justice.
our 3 weeks stay was just wonderful: The house was simply put beautiful! Very colorful, very nicely decorated, well equipped. Be wary pf mosquitoes and be sure to bring a strong repellent: except for the bedrooms, all rooms in the house are open to the outside. The neighborhood is far from the hustle/bustle of the city qnd reqlly on the country side with many rice fields around. Swimming pool is of good size to swim (and floating Jasmin flowers every morning due to tree above the pool is magical) . Nengah, Made and Kadek have just been great in providing excellent advice and support for any questions/issues we may have had. They also set us up with a scooter to move around, Kadek drove us around at a very decent rate and with lots of humor. Helped us get a (very cheap) SIM card to surf/call in Bali... and many other things really! The house is indeed within 15 min of echo beach...a dark sand beach with a major surfer crowd. Avoid the restaurant called the red Salt, there are much better places in echo beach, their food is atrocious. Less positive things to consider: - house is near what seemed to be a pig farm: you will have from time to time a rather foul smell in the open quarters. Have lots of incense sticks around. we were a lot out; so issue only occured at night. - country side means a few farms around and be ready to be hearing roosters' concerts as of 3 am!! Took us about a week to get adjusted and then you don't hear them anymore...mad roosters in Bali singing all day really! - echo beach is not for small children, the tide is far too strong for them to swim in it (not an issue with the house, but our own preparation). No worries, Kadek can take you to Sanur, which i recommend as a family beach. All in all, this place is highly recommended: great staff, comfortable, nice, etc.. by far outweights the small negatives mentioned above. Go there with closed eyes and be ready to be pampered by the staff.
Our one month stay at Kuba Cempaka was flawless and wonderful from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. The staff (Nengah, Wayan, and Kadek) were always in communication to make sure we were taken care of and Wayan and Kadek came twice a day to clean the house and grounds. Echo Beach is a 3 minute drive or 10 minute walk. The walk is lovely with rice fields all around. There are many restaurants around Echo Beach and a few right across the street from the home. We rented the villa's scooter while we were there and could get to anywhere we needed or wanted nearby. The home itself is beautiful. It has an open family room, dining area, and kitchen that opens to the pool. The three bedrooms and the rest of the home is very clean, spacious, and beautiful. The entire home and grounds has a wall around it, security at night, and is in a very safe neighborhood. The stay was WONDERFUL and we highly recommend it to anyone!
Great villa, greeat staff.. Kadek, Nengah and Wayan.. Easy communication with Peter (owner) location is gooood. in walking distance to good beach and dining. Would really want to stay here again and recommend to everyone to try out this traditional Balinese style villa with alot of cool stonestatues, running water in the pool and surrounding areas and etc. thank you for a great stay.
