About this listing
Lovely, comfortable beachside cottage, just two homes from the Pacific Ocean and Ventura's gorgeous beach. Views of birds, trees, and a lush garden out the backyard. Bikes are provided (free of charge) and allow for easy, fun access to bustling downtown and stores.
Nantucket-style cottage just four houses from beautiful Ventura Beach. Very private with lovely patio and pristine and colorful gardens. Wake up to blue skies, ocean sounds, and a symphony of birds out in the garden. Truly a personal paradise. Outdoor fireplace for the perfect marshmallow roast. Parking for three cars with garage storage for your bicycles, razors, beach toys, etc.
Enjoy the fresh produce market and restaurants nearby within walking distance or bicycling. Check out the park on the water or go to the harbor for shopping and dining.
After spending the day on the beach, take a short drive to Main Street where you will find trendy restaurants and boutique shopping along with great antique stores.
Take a deep-sea fishing daytrip or fish off the local pier. Visit the quaint towns of Ojai or Santa Barbara checking out the mission, zoo, art show, theater, wine tasting tours and more.
Go bike riding along Ventura's idyllic coastal bike path with classic California beach cruiser bikes; provided, of course, by the owner. With five in the garage, there's enough for the whole family.
Most of all, enjoy the intimate, warm nature of the cottage. Personally decorated and loved by a family for over a decade, this house has been a special place to more people than we can count. It's always worthwhile, and always soothes the soul and sparks the senses. A beautiful, unique place that we hope you'll enjoy as much as we (clearly) do.
Everything! All kitchen amenities have been provided. Beach wear, towels, and other seaside stuff (boogie boards, playthings, etc) are in the garage! Outdoor space includes heat lamps and a grill.
Most importantly - we have bikes! Loads of them, and they are of course free of charge. This is our favorite part of the cottage - riding our (and your!) bikes all around town. Car-free is indeed the way to be in Ventura. Downtown is a short ride away, as are all grocery stores and most of the town's shopping.
Interaction with Guests
We live in LA, so none - except of course by email or phone if need be!
The beach, obviously! That and the gorgeous, eclectic mix of homes is a pretty good start. The convenience of super markets and restaurants down the street is obviously nice, as is the proximity of the pier and downtown.
There is! Amtrak connects LA to Ventura in just an hour and a half. The station is only a ten minute cyle ride away.
Other Things to Note
During the summer, Ventura requires a 7 night minimum (July and August).
We loved staying here! The house is so adorable and comfortable. The coastal themed décor is well thought out and charming.
We especially liked the central locations near restaurants and the frozen yogurt stand as well as being steps from the sand. We took advantage of going to the harbor as well as the pier.
We loved being able to use the boogie boards and bicycles and took advantage of the scenic bike trail along the shore and up to downtown Main Street.
We will definitely stay here again!!!
Our weekend at The Cottage in Ventura surpassed all of our expectations! The 6 of us were very comfortable in this quaint, well appointed home that was also kid friendly. We loved being only a few houses from the sand and shopping/dining. The bikes were also nice to use! Looking forward to a return visit to this great place!!!
We had a great time in the cottage, we took lots of walks on the beach and cooked nice meals there in the evening, including a (somewhat modest) Thanksgiving feast. The kitchen had everything we needed; it's really well appointed for a rental, and there's a nice gas/charcoal grill out back. Everything was perfect, so we had no real need to talk to the host, but she was very responsive and friendly in all our communication. Thanks Ellen!
We loved staying at this adorable cottage. The neighborhood is very cute and it is steps away from the beach. You can also walk to a few local restaurants and shops. The beds were very comfy, although FYI, one of the three bedrooms just has a pull-out couch. There's a cute patio out back that is great for eating outside. It's a great little place. We loved it!
The reservation was canceled 19 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Brilliant place - great hosts - I cannot say enough about how good Ellens place is - the kids loved the holiday and we would go back again for sure.....a true gem of a home - thanks Elllen!.

About the Host, Ellen
I'm an always-busy, perpetually-moving mother, lawyer, and vacation home owner! The "vacation home owner" title is my newest one: I've at this for five or so years now, and it's been a lovely experience. I've greatly enjoyed sharing our two vacation properties - one at the beach (Ventura) and the other in the mountains (Mammoth Lakes) - with our guests on a variety of rental platforms.
I make every effort to provide as comfortable and accommodating experience as possible. Furthermore, guests can rest assured (literally!) that their properties are properly taken care of - my husband and I love these two locations and spend loads of our own time there! We plan to eventually retire to the Ventura house while spending as time as possible up in the Sierra Nevada at the Mammoth place!
So, these two properties we've listed on Airbnb aren't just some heartless rental spots, outfitted with the basics and nothing else! Instead, they've been decorated and furnished with love, care, and consideration. We don't even view them as separate homes at this point, really, but rather extensions of our own! That's how much we love and stay in these two places.
Anyways, we hope that you'll love them as much as we do!
