I get very healthy quickly here with the ocean air and great healthy food. Monthly rentals available in the off season. 300 days of sunshine a year, very little rain. Expect blue skies from June to October. That s right no rain, No clouds!
Days are hot and dry, nights are cool. No AC needed as there is no humidity. At night you can dress up a little, suit jacket or sweater and during the day you can dress down tank top shorts biknin. I am always impressed by how fast clothes dry on a line in the sun....in about an hour, completely dry, try it!

Seville, Lisbon are less than 2 hours away, a great day trip. Excursions available.
I love the beaches , that everything is close by. Easy access to highways, all roads lead to Albufeira, the center of the Algarve.
Very affordable, no parking meters. The beach is just down the hill Praia dos Pescadores, (Fishermen s beach). There is a market close by with fresh local produce, fresh fish daily. Portuguese won t touch yesterday s catch, no fresh fish on Sundays. Two supermarkets, and small shopping center with all the services one would need. all within walking distance.
A restaurant with takeout homemade portuguese food, bread, (Adega do David), a friendly lounge, Havana bar, with wifi and great Mojitos for 3.50 euros. Both Just across the street.
Algarve Shopping is a large open air concept Mall where you can shop till 11 pm in the evening. Banks, restaurants, bars, niteclubs are plentiful.
The old town with small cobblestone streets is lively. The beach has great restaurants overlooking the ocean for an English breakfast, fresh seafood. Very affordable, a short walk down the hill.
My favourite beach hut is called appropriately enough "the spot". walk straight down to the beach and walk left past Inatel hotel, it is the next hut over. Great view, very relaxing, surrounded by a red clay cliff dotted with Umbrella pine trees and cactus plants.
If you have a car some of my favourite beaches are a short drive:
Heading west, Praia ( Beach ) Evaristo, is a small beach with an upscale restaurant and a perfect spot to catch the sunset with a bottle of Vinho Verde (Slightly Sparkling semi sweet/dry Portuguese wine).
Praia da Gale, Villa Joya boasts a restaurant with 2 Michelin Stars to reserve for dinner two weeks in advance. (phone number hidden). my favourite spot the Chiringuito bar is reopening on a cliff overlooking the sea and their full moon parties are back! This beach bar never closes it is open 24 hours. It is hidden and you must find the hidden path along the cliff to get there.
A little further west Salgodos beach boasts sand dunes and a virgin stretch of beach where nudity is permitted but not abundant, so if you see a little too much don t be surprised. Great for a run in the morning or sunset, midday if you can handle the heat.
all within 15 minute drive.
Keep heading west to praia da Marinha just west Porches a spectacular beach at the bottom of a cliff with a cool little beach hut snack bar. Jose Mourinho has a resort nearby and summers not too far away.
A little further west and you come to Lagos and Dona Anna beach . Hire a boat and discover hidden beaches and caves, Fantastic!
A little farther west and you hit Sagres, and Tonel beach which almost always has great surfing. Rent a board on the way into town. Visit Prince Henry the navigator s famous military sailing school where Christopher Columbus attended. Catch the sunset at the end of the world where steep cliffs dive straight into the ocean at Europe s southwestern tip and the most powerful lighthouse in Europe.
88 km away about an hour drive
Praia da Oura is a small beach surrounded by restaurants, hotels night clubs and sits at the end of "The (email hidden)ly street, very touristy and fun if you are not too discerning. It has the best niteclub in the Algarve on the road to Praia da Oura, Capitulo IV.
Next up Falesia beach. Stunning red clay cliffs with Umbrella pines at the top. a virgin stretch of beach that end s at the Villa Moura Marina. Pine cliffs hotel and golf course is a good place to access the beach by elevator. Horse back riding on the cliffs and beach 25 euros an hour, (phone number hidden).
Continuing west, Villa Moura an upscale planned neighbourhood, Christiano Ronaldo has a summer home there. there are no beaches but there is a marina, Casino and golf courses. Kadok Disco sits at the entrance to Villa Moura an 8 000 person capacity complex that only opens in the summer. The niteclub at the casino, BlackJack, has a good ladies night every Thursday throughout the year.
A little more west Val do lobo beach. This is the Beverly Hills of Portugal and has the most expensive real estate in the country. It boasts a Jack Nicklaus designed golf course, Monte Rei, which is pricey and among the top courses in Europe.
Heading west we hit Faro and the islands. Take a boat trip to Ilha do Faro and go off the beaten path. It feels like you re somewhere completely different, lost on an island away from everyone.
30 km away
Tavira and it s famous salt production. Pick up some artisan sea salt.
keep heading East and you ll hit Seville. The most cliche Spanish town. With it s orange trees, Sevilanna ( Flamenco ), Tapas, sweet Jerez wine ( Sherry ), Bull fighting ring (the whole town watches live and on tv), Siesta, it is the hottest place in Europe, unbearable in the afternoon. 55 Degrees Celsius.... La Feria in April is well worth the visit.
200 km away
There are buses to and from Faro and Faro Airport. There is public transit from the train station and bus stations here in Albufeira. A complimentary tourist train/bus to different parts of town. There is public transport to the bus stations/ train station.
Taxis are affordable and everything you need is within walking distance.
I suggest renting a car and taking full insurance with no deductible as car rental companies can get picky about scratches etc., here in Portugal. Parking is not a Problem in the Algarve, no parking tickets, tow trucks, or meters. It is very affordable and I recommend portugal auto rentals.
Fuel prices in Portugal 1.39 diesel
1.60 95 unleaded
If you are planning some long day trips you might find a diesel automobile a better option. The main highways in Portugal now have tolls on them. You might consider national highways as an alternative. All the highways are in excellent condition and it is a pleasure to drive along the coast or on winding country roads. Up into the Serra Monchique (Mountains and Hot springs), or into the Alentejo region and their world renowned wineries, or up the Vincentine Coast Nature reserve and it s virgin beaches.
Surf s up!
You can learn to surf in Sagres (Tonel Beach), surf rentals and lessons on the way into town. They usually have good swells or up the Vincentine coast to Arifana beach just south of Aljizur.
To/From Airport: "Faro Shuttle bus" 8 euros each way book online.
Giro city bus.
Eva bus station
Ferreiras train station
Local tourist bus train
No smoking or pets please.

My boyfriend and I spent a wonderful valentines weekend in Albufeira and really much enjoyed Nelson's place. He was not present himself during our stay, but we stayed in touch and his neighbor welcomed us very warmly and perfectly helped us out without speaking a single word of English.
The apartment offers everything one might think of when on vacation (TV, WiFi, fan, iron, hair dryer, WORKING laundry machine, grill on the balcony,..).
The only major disadvantage was that the studio could not be heated, even though we went there in winter and despite the fact that there was an actual heating, we were given a small electric heater that of course wasn't able to heat the entire studio. Also with the wind blowing in from the poorly isolated front door, the nights were super cold. Nevertheless, the breathtaking ocean view when waking up in the morning made up for everything :D
As for arriving at the apartment from Faro airport, I would highly recommend to follow Nelson's advice of booking an extra airport shuttle - it is definitely worth the 7 or 8 euros, makes you arrive quickly and comfortably and spares a lot of confusion, transferring to other buses etc. Especially in view of the fact that the bus station is a 15min walk out of the town center.
Albufeira is a very cute and little place, every person we spoke to was being open, friendly and always helpful. I can imagine it being a vivid spot in summer. The beach is just a 2-3 minutes walk down street.
All in all, I totally recommend the apartment, it delivers what it promises.
I needed a place to stay with my twin boys whilst we explored the area for 5 days. The apartment, whilst basic, was perfect and exactly what we wanted. Nelson was very attentive and helpful and we had a great stay. Thanks Nelson and his parents who welcomed us when we arrived.
Magnificent appartment, cute, clean, beautiful view. Better than the pictures. I was worried about a previous comment but Nelson reassured me and we did not regret our decision. If you are looking for an ocean view and close to everything then this is the perfect place! Nelson was always available, ressourceful and helpful. The perfect host.
The internet was super fast, renovated kitchen, great outdoor bbq and Terrace. lots of parking, super beach just down the hill!! We loved our stay here, thank you Nelson!!
-Nelson and Catherine had some nice food items in the kitchen for us upon arrival.
-Location is good - 5 minute walk to the beach and old town.
-Nelson did his best to try to fix the several issues we experienced in the apartment.
-The laundry machine wasn't working, but Catherine was kind enough to do our laundry for us!
-The place definitely isn't as nice as it looks in the photos, but that's always the case when airbnb sends a photographer to do the photography (the view is pretty nice though).
-We were there for 4 weeks, and the bathroom smelled like sewage the majority of the time - I think it comes up through a hole in the wall. Keep the door closed and then it's not too bad in the rest of the apartment.
-If someone is renting the room next door, you will hear them.
Overall, it was just an okay place, but a decent value I think, and Nelson and Catherine were great.
Well I guess we were in for a bad review after 125 good reviews. It was the rainiest November we ever had and yes there was some odours coming up from the sewer system as they were doing work on it in the town. Luckily it only rains 65 days a year here. The hole in the wall is the bathroom ventilation not really a hole in the wall. The room next door is another apartment and not a room and they had no noise issues ? We will look into soundproofing the adjoining doors.
Everything looks better when it is sunny and worse when it is raining, the apartment is actually better than the pictures with a fully renovated kitchen and refinished furniture. we have also replaced the laundry machine and the odours from the sewage system that were rare enough are also a thing of the past. I am happy you liked the ocean view, our service, the little extras, the location, and that you thought it was a decent value, all in all, even with all the rain. I hope this review does not dissuade anyone else from booking this great little studio apartment.
Nelson made us feel extremely welcomed to the place. We appreciated the way the studio was so cleaned and some nice goodies were left for us. Really nice touch! Everything was great we have nothing bad to say. Very Good experience!
Nice spot to stay near by a shopping strip and easy access to the beach. Place was clean and we had coffee, milk, jam and oranges to have nice breakfast. Nelson and the cleaners were helpful so we had a nice time there. Thanks Nelson.
