in the historical centre, close to all amenities, heaters, shared garden and kitchen with South American explorers information office on hand . cleaner 3 times a week and all bills included ! Friendly clubhouse environment excellent for travelers
Welcome to South American Explorers, a club for independent travelers. Part of our services is providing lodging to our members. The Clubhouse is situated on Av Pardo , highly traditional neighborhood of Cusco, 5 minutes from the Main Square. we rent out 4 rooms to be able to help us to pay the rent on the building, which is primarily an information giving service for travelers in the area.
Rooms are not luxurious, but have sufficient furnishings such as queen-sized bed, a clothes rack, bathroom with hot gas powered shower, wifi throughout the grounds, sheets (changed every week), towel, toilet paper and weekly cleaning service. There is also a gas heater (you have to pay to refill the tank yourself, which is approximately 36 soles a fill and should last you a month or more).
As well, residents have their own fully equipped shared kitchen, sitting area, upstairs sunny pato, and full access to our lovely sunny garden grounds (including hammocks and a fire pit!). The Clubhouse is situated on a tree lined avenue which is central but with very little traffic, so there´s no noise from the cars. It is a really nice, quiet place to stay. We do not own a washing machine, but there are plenty of super cheap laundry services nearby (less than a dollar per kilo just around the corner). We have the post office and supermarket just around the corner and are conveniently next door to th U.S. consulate
Members´ area, which you will have access to, has a good library, sitting area, computers with Internet and free calls to US and Canada (MajicJack!).
Staying in SAE means not just services and facilities listed above, but also atmosphere of free travels and open-minded community of explorers to make friends to. If you wish to socialize, there´s always company. If you prefer having more privacy, you´ll have it all (as mentioned before, there are only 4 rooms rented, so it´s never crowded).
In a nutshell, welcome!
With love, SAE team

Excelente lugar para conocer, gran variedad de lugares donde se puede disfrutar al máximo! Claire nuestra anfitriona estuvo ante cualquier duda. Lugar muy cómodo y seguro donde se puede estar tranquilo y descansar bien.
Great room, has all the basics. Claire is a great hostess, and was able to recommend things to do outside of the touristy things we all know about. Highly recommended.
The room is based in the Cusco quarters of the South American explorers, a non for profit organisation. You have to be a member to be able to stay there. The room is part of four in a detached house near the kitchen and clubhouse. Claire the manager deals with travellers all the time so knows what is needed and is extremely helpful sorting out any issues. We arrived after an overnighter with little sleep early in the morning and go to our room by 8.
My husband and I were volunteering and learning Spanish for the week in Cusco and we wanted something different from the usual hostel experience so chose the SA Explorers club. The rooms are in a great location in the San Blas neighbourhood, walking distance from the centre and lots of bars, restaurants and shops are nearby. It can be a little cold at night but the duvets were a nice touch and we liked having a kitchen to cook in.
I loved my week at the South American Explorers clubhouse in Cuzco! The San Blas neighborhood is safe, clean, intriguing and very convenient for getting to the historical and cultural center of town (Plaza de Armas is maybe an 8-minute walk) as well as to interesting small restaurants and shops, and is just a 5 peso taxi from anywhere else in the city you might want to go (my Spanish classes were in Confraternidad, a good 30 minutes of walking). We booked with John Paul, but the new administrator at SAE is Claire and she is a breath of fresh air to the place. As a local business owner (The Muse restaurant and bar) and expat with more than a decade in Cuzco, she really knows the city and its outlaying areas, and plans to restore SAE to its original credo with educational programs, day trips and other benefits for members. I will definitely be back!
Hi! Nice to meet you!
After having lived in Peru for a number of years I decided there should be a way to share the knowledge I gained. That´s how I became the manager in South American Explorers club, which is the only travelling NGO on the continent, providing unbiased information and pretty much everything to "Be your own guide": maps, huge library, trip reports, info packets and more.
In order to be able to operate, we have a membership system and also rent out 4 rooms which belong to the club house.
