Charming Room for Rent

House - Private room · Shoal Creek Boulevard, Austin, TX 78757, United States

The Space

Mi casa es su casa! My home is situated in an established neighborhood in north central Austin. The house is charming and colorfully decorated with folk art, hardwood floors and Mexican tiles throughout.
I have a 500 square foot addition to rent that has its own private entrance with a key pad lock. There is a small private bathroom with a sink, shower and toilet. The bedroom has 1 daybed with a trundle to make a king size bed or 2 twins. In the same room there is a comfortable futon couch that folds down in to a full/queen size bed. There is a TV, stereo with ipod connection, Keurig coffee maker, microwave, mini fridge, small desk, ceiling fan, armoire, ironing board/iron and internet access in your room. All towels, linens, pillows, pool towels, blow dryer, soap and shampoo are provided.

Your bedroom door leads to a backyard paradise including a huge back patio with a BBQ grill, fire pit, mature trees, hammock and a lap pool for your enjoyment. Pool can be heated for an additional fee if necessary.

Breakfast is not included but I do provide coffee and tea.

You will have shared access to the kitchen and living room area. Our home is open, clean and smoke free.

We do have an outdoor cat that comes around for her daily feeding but does not come in the house.

Downtown Austin, UT, Zilker Park, Austin Convention Center, Barton Springs and Austin's entertainment district are all approximately 5 miles away and can be reached by car or public transit. There is a bus stop within walking distance (.5 mile). There are plenty of restaurants, parks and grocery stores near the property.I do recommend renting a car or using Cars 2 Go. Public transportation is not the best if you really want to see and experience Austin and all of the great things it has to offer.

Reservations can't be taken more than 90 days in advance.

We would love to have you in our home!

Guest Access

Guest access includes living room, dining room, kitchen, backyard patios, swimming pool and laundry facility.

Interaction with Guests

I interact with guests as much or as little as they like. I am out of town quite often.

The Neighborhood

I moved here 25 years ago and when I travelled down my Boulevard for the first time, I knew that this is where I wanted to live. It is an amazingly beautiful street with a bike path and runners taking advantage of the shade trees lining the street. My neighborhood is peaceful, well established and quite lovely when everything is in bloom.

Getting around

Bikes are easy to rent. Cars 2 Go are available. Buses run nearby to downtown. Relay Rides are available all over town for a discount rental car. Feel free to ask me about Relay Rides in Austin.

MapQuest or (website hidden) Maps or any GPS will have you taking 2222 to my house. That street changes names at least 5 times! The names are Koenig Lane, 2222, Northland, 290 (east of HWY 35), Allandale Rd..
Mopac is the same thing as HWY 1

Check In
  • Lovely and unique living space, wonderfully located, and a gracious and inviting hostess--we couldn't have asked for a better stay!
My sister and I had travelled to Austin for a half-marathon, Barb did all she could to make our visit stress-free and comfortable--from providing directions, to restaurant suggestions, to even giving us a ride! The best!!!
The art in our room, the invigorating post-run swim, and the quiet surroundings, made this visit more like a retreat than the hectic run tour it could have been. We highly recommend this property and commend this hostess!

  • Our stay at Barbara's charming room was simply wonderful. Barbara is very hospitable and welcoming. We fell very comfortable and were inspired by her lovely decorations. She was great with our five year old daughter Nina. We will definitely stay at Barbara's next time we are in Austin.

  • The room is just as described and so cozy! It's cute and it was obvious that a lot of attention was paid to detail. Barbara and her husband made me feel so welcome. Their backyard is a peaceful oasis if you want to just hang out and read. I would stay here again anytime I was in Austin!

  • This was our first experience at an airbnb, and quite honestly, we were a bit apprehensive about our decision; we felt uncomfortable driving to someone's private home to stay. But I have to say that Barb and Will made us feel 100% welcome as soon as we entered their home, and they are great hosts! The description and pictures of the room and house are exactly as described and pictured. The room is open, spacious, and cheerful. Barb also has a mini refrigerator and microwave in the room which was very convenient. Other nice touches included coffee/tea, a cabinet full of dishes for us to use, and purified water (to drink and fill water bottles). Barb even had surprise treats for us each day. She was very helpful in suggesting places to hike or bike, as well as recommending good places to eat. There is nothing like getting the inside scoop from someone who lives in the area and can provide helpful tips for getting around and great places to eat! The location of their home was convenient to the downtown area as it is right off Mopac. We will definitely be back again!

  • I purchased Barbara and Will's sweet little b&b for My Mother and Step Father's Birthday weekend.
    - Communication was as easy as texting a friend or family member.
    - Barabara even offered to go out and bake a cake, serve a bottle of wine and get chocolates for the folks.
    - The both were so welcoming, they felt like family.
I dropped my folks off, we all got the tour of the house, food was waiting, and right away got into a conversation about running with Will.
The two of them were amazing...and really take care of a terrific casa!

The next morning they invited us into the living room to hang out and just relax and talk. As I wasn't a visitor, just wanted to treat my folks for the weekend, we got to talking about Austin and the history, etc...

I will tell you that where the house is located is in one of the best neighborhoods in Austin. It was like being taken back to the early 80's... It gave me goosebumps driving along the roads in the neighborhood! I miss that kind of Austin and am glad folks like Barbara and Will are keeping it Austin!

Thanks again and if you don't check out Barbara's b&b, you're really missing out!

  • Our stay was short and sweet. Charming room in a nice neighborhood with easy access to where we wanted to go! Barbara and Will were pleasant hosts!

  • Our stay with Barbara was absolutely fantastic. Barbara is a natural and gifted host who has a beautiful, bright and spacious home. The room itself is perfect for a renter because you have your own entrance and bathroom. The room is bright, cheery, clean and the photos represent the property perfectly. It's also located in a good location for whatever Austin adventure you are into.

Barbara is someone who takes great pride in her home and providing you a first-rate experience. One night we told her how we wanted some dessert, but couldn't find a great place. She pulled out a delicious chocolate cake that she gladly shared with us. That's the type of host Barbara is. I would highly recommend her and her space as a perfect place to stay in Austin.

  • Had an absolutely great stay from start to finish. The house is in a great neighborhood that is convenient to almost anything one would want to do in Austin. The room was spacious, quiet, comfortable. A lot of thought had gone into how it was put together - from the artisan textiles on the beds to the artwork on the walls. The bed was comfortable. The down pillows were the nicest I've slept on (and I've stayed in my share of overpriced, high-end hotels). Everything was spotlessly clean. Nice light. Lots of little amenities - wine, water, bathrobe, wireless, etc. Great outdoor living space. I would/will revisit without any hesitation.

  • My boyfriend and I adored Barbara's home. It was warm and welcoming and we both instantly felt like we could relax. It was very clean and Barbara was very helpful, seeing as we ran into some ice on the way there delaying our arrival. We never got to meet Barbara face to face because we were so busy and had opposite schedules, but I would not hesitate to stay with her again! GREAT EXPERIENCE!
